Would this "friend" have been wingspeed by chance?

I said the same thing about a year ago.  If it is, it's great publicity for him.  

This information trickled out on the "down low" before the season started - want to say December - January.  

I have only been to Farley a couple of times, Saw a WoO race there back in late 80s early 90s. West Liberty however was my every weekend track. It's been a few decades since then though! It was all fender racing with the likes of Gary Webb, Kosiskis, Pokey West, Tony Stewart, David Birhoffer (Brians Dad). That track was hopping for a lot of years but like you said, Now it's a ghost town...

I didn't realize they don't have a regular show anymore.  :(   I used to be a Gary Webb fan and remember seeing the Kosiskis at the Yankee every year.  Ray Guss Jr., Steve Boley, Jeff Aikey.  Some good racing there when that place was going well!!

West Liberty usually had the season lid-lifter for Iowa and we'd make the 300-mile diagonal trip across the state and arrive really early and park near the pit entrance near corner 1 to watch all the teams arrive and check out their new cars for the season.

Of any track I'd ever been too, it had the longest and widest corner entry, and I swear they'd back 'em in so long that if Ernie Derr looked out his right side he could probably see his highway exit for Keokuk.

Another thing I'd never seen at a track before was the handful of gigantic oak(?) trees in the infield between corners 1-2. That created a pretty cool effect from the stands at race time. The tree canopy would be above your line of vision of the cars, so it was really something to see.

Farley had lots of memorable YDTC events also. But in typical Iowa fashion, it was usually a week or two after Boone and by then it was usually pretty frigid...but 5 minutes after the race on the way home you'd forget about how cold it was and have the memories of a great weekend of racing.

Spent many nights freezing until 2:00 a.m. for the Yankee, no doubt!!  And yes, there were some memorable ones.  The one that sticks out to me was the year Birky was slated to start on the front row.  During the parade lap, he pulled into the pits, and they began to reshuffle the line-up.  Right as they were taking the one to go, he re-emerged from the pits, tagged the field, and took the lead somewhere on about lap 75 or 76.  (if memory serves me)  I cannot remember what the issue was on the car, but I remember them being amazed they got it changed in time!

Well someone asked if this forum was dead so I livened it up a little.

Yep, we used to park and watch the races from under that big Oak in turn 2... Spent a ton of weekends there from back when they ran the Jalopies up until about the late 80's. Columbus Junction was another that we went to a whole lot. They actually still run a weely show there with I believe a decent turnout. 

What did it cost to get into the races back when they raced jalopies and the pit crews wore white pants and shirts?

is it possible the hl/woo split has taken away some of the enthusiasm from fans and that's why there's less conversation around here?  i mentioned the technical issues but maybe there's more going on.

i saw brad sweet's gold car over the weekend and thought about how cool it would be to see it in pa and take pictures of it.  then i remembered he won't be here.  on the flip side...i'd love to see guys like rico and sunshine come through more often.

This actually makes more sense than just about any other scenario.  

     I don't think it's anything as identifiable as that. It's basically just the world changing. At one time, I was active in 4 racing messageboard forums and 1 non-racing forum. I'm now down to one racing forum-this one- and one non-racing forum that I haven't visited in so long that I couldn't remeber it at first.

     The world of how race fans communicate and how they watch races has changed so much that racing message boards, and all others for that matter, are becoming obsolete. The majority of race fans have migrated to things like Facebook, Tik Toc, whatever. To a large extent, a lot of race fans have migrated from weekly attendance at a real racetrack to watching online, or drifted away to watcg something else online. 

Yep, I see you too! Our local tracks start operation this weekend. Which race track are you going to this weekend?

Dumb and dunber? Nice try there genius. 

I know it's only early May, but to me the racing hasn't been that good so far. Seems like every race (HL and WoO) is being won from the front rows. It's the Gracel and Sweet show again, and we've seen that movie before.

Even as an Admin, I have had a hard time getting on that I just looked elsewhere because I thought thst the entire forum had to have been hacked.
