Very difficult to determine---as you state.
Did Sheldon cause that wreck at WG? Sure. He got sideways, and Chase ran over the back of him. Even though Sheldon did not hit him, and Chase initiated the contact, it's pretty obvious that Sheldon getting sideways was the reason for the wreck. Let's change the scenario ever so slightly. Let's say Sheldon and Chase are nose to tail going into the corner, and Sheldon bobbles ever so slightly causing Chase to run over him in the same fashion-----a small enough bobble that only Sheldon, Chase, and maybe someone close to the contact would see it. Do you throw Sheldon to the back in both scenarios? Probably not. Where's the line? How much of a bobble would be grounds for "causing the wreck?" I'm happy this isn't part of the decision----even more fuel to the conspiracy fires!
The driver continues on under their own power, and they blend in where they were at. Cut and dried. Take as much opinion and feelings out of every decision.

I think you may be missing the point Egres. The official WoO rule for red flags doesn’t say “the driver continues on under their own power, and they blend in where they were at”. If it did, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
Carson got rewarded. He didn't have to deal with lap traffic for a few laps because there was a restart.

Sheldon and the recent Macedo incidents are two very different scenarios. A car losing it and getting run into is a lot more of a racing deal than a guy just flat out door slamming another guy and dumping him. While I mostly agree with your no judgement calls position the Macedo move leaves a bad taste. I know the rules and knew he wouldn't be penalized, and I'm fine with that. But did I kind of want him to get a flat from it and lose his position, yes, yes I did. That would have been justice. Lol.

Some people are off track from what the poster is talking about. Two different scenarios. A LAPPED car is fair game. Nothing but an obstacle. Think of the lapper as a cone or barrel if you need to to understand. Do what you need to get around. No consequence. Racing with another car for position on the same lap if a driver wrecks another driver on purpose thier are subjections for penaltys. In sprint car racing it is highly unlikely and mostly rare for a driver to wreck another on purpose because becaise the way sprint cars are built its hard to wreck someone and not wreck yourself also. I think yall have nascar in your mind where you can easily wreck someone and not yourself. Kinda same with late models and modifieds. If you keep movng you are not considered involved in a caution.

I'm not missing any point. The rule was intended to put cars that the red came out for to the back of the field, and cars that stop, and were not part of the red flag, get to retain their spot. What does Sheldon have to do with this? Nothing----he wasn't even part of the red. He continued. I'm not sure why this is so hard for some to understand. He wasn't stopped on the track as a result of the incident that brought out the red flag. Neither was Macedo. What is there that is so hard to get about this?

Obviously you're a JJR fan so you're POV is scewed. I have heard Carson say he was being less agressive b/c the perception was that he was too aggressive.
Regardless both drivers are good.

It definitely affected him through the beginning of the season. The countless attacks on social media made him be far less aggressive. On top of that, the big track package was not working at all, so he definitely has had a lot of mental pressure on the track. He finally let loose and started hitting his stride. Unfortunately, he had little to no room on a lock down track that the Outlaws pulled out of even racing the full weekend with Gravel breathing down his neck for the lead and made contact with some Saturday night hero I'll never hear from again. People used to love Sammy for the same thing.

People hated Sammy for the same thing. Millionaire babies wrecking guys who have all their time and money tied up in their car is the worst part of sprint car racing. And you won't hear from that guy again because he won't be able to keep racing because he can't afford to replace what the Macedos of the world junk, and still pay his bills.
