I thought Stewart finished 6th the 2nd year of the double?

You are correct and 5th in 97 not 9th. 3 top 10s in 5 tries and a championship. Not shabby

That's pretty good, Ed Carpenter did drive Sprints and midgets before running the race JJ Yeley and Jimmy Kite also but I'm sure there's others.

Heck ya. Hard to remember some of the usac guys from that era. But also pj Jones, billy boat and more I'm sure

I would put Kyle in the conversation but let's just start with Foyt 4 Indy 500 wins through multiple styles of cars a Daytona 500 win and a LeMans win pretty damn versitle. Andretti an Indy 500 and a Daytona 500 and an F1 championship pretty hard to top that. Not to mention my namesake Mr Jones who won in everything also.

Yes for sure aj and Mario were studs, as was Parnelli Jones. Tony has driver championships in Indy Car, NASCAR, USAC Siler Crown, USAC Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets. Wins in WoO, All Stars, NHRA, Chil Bowl, NASCAR all 3 divisions. Indy Car, Dirt Lates, USaC all three divisions etc...... As an owner I can't think of anyone more diverse there either. WoO. USAC Silver Crown, USAC Sprints, NHRA. Nascar .... like over 30 series championships, as an owner, just crazy what he has accomplished as Driver, team owner. Series owner. And track owner....unmatched I feel all around, but just my opinion

This actually came to my mind after the race. I watched him making his way up through there. It was actually to me not as thrilling as you might think to see. It was a slow and steady climb through the field about a car a lap the track was a little slower and he wasnt really using aggressive sliders or big moves just alot of finess. I watched brad sweet come from like 12th to 4th to 2nd at a HL race at Tri City earlier this year that left me thinking it looked like an absolute clinic.I did not get that feel by watching this race. It was an incredible feat no doubt but probably not as exciting looking as you might think.

I was lucky enough to see Schatz win from 21st at Knoxville a few years back, & to be honest, I don't recall if any of the individual passes were "exciting". It was the whole race. Most of us had written Donnie off since he was in the B, but I kept an eye on him thru most of the A cause he was SCHATZ! By the time he reached about 5th, it dawned on me that "this SOB is gonna win" (I wasn't rooting for him at the start, but c'mon, GREATNESS has to be acknowledged)
He was methodically passing guys one after another (or several at once, don't recall).... same with Larson
I REALLY wish I could have seen the whole thing at Peavely.... doesn't have to be flashy, but as a whole, INCREDIBLE!

No opinion on comparing Kyle to former greats, but just how good is this guy???
We all knew he was terrific, but his wins at Peavely just pushed it up another level
Holy frijoles!!!! :)

He did it again tonite
We know he's good, but he keeps proving it over & over
I better stop myself before i start making rash predictions about the Indy 500... (just came into my head ;) )
