The crowds did not reflect that. The local events also lost some luster when Frankie Thompson retired. And Leroy Felty and Pete Swarmer and Elmer Ruby and Junior Ritchy and Mitch Smith and Steve Smith and Kenny Weld and Jan Opperman and Todd Shaffer and many others. Someone has always carried on. I think Macri, Marks Detreich and others are doing just fine keeping things going. I see races just as good as I saw from the sixties on up. The good old days are every time you make to the track to see another one.

....Johnny Grum and Ray Tilley for the blue oval fans

Even as a "mostly locals" event, Pa. Speedweek has lost some luster without Fast Freddy, Hodnett & Dewease barely a contender...

The same thing happened when Kinser, Swindell and Wolfgang retired. As predicted, the World of Outlaws just went into a tailspin and disappeared. ;)

Because the local fans do not see it that way. Every race had a big crowd. Central PA has enough big paying races to draw the travelers in. Stop being a negative Nancy all the time . That's what drives people away from the sport.

This comment makes sense,  & you're right, it was my opinion cause I don't live in Pa.

Its a minimum 4 hour drive for me & I usually only come for big events. I've been to Speedweek several times, & the expected lineup didn't seem to justify all that driving for me. If I lived closer, I would have made a few of the shows...

Planning on Tuscarora 50 .... :)
