The Wild West Shootout LM shows he's been touting have been sparsely attended. He probably misses the attention he gets at the Chili Bowl, given I highly doubt the 140 fans at Vado can give him the same type of boost to the ego.

I'm with the others on this one. Kyle Larson doesn't need the exposure but FLO and High Limit could use it. You bet they will interview him. I picture it going something like this: "Hey, you looked pretty good out there passing 14 cars with a flat tire to take the win. How about that High Limit series? Tell us about that". Remember, this is the entertainment business.

THIS!

Kyle got a call reminding him who's signing the checks.

Well, if you had read my post, you would have seen that I was referring to Pete Pumpkineater. That's why I quoted his post. :)

I say the change of heart for running a race he talked down last year has something to do with FLO.

Yes it is all about marketing.  FLO race and the first big race of the year and the biggest name in racing shows up.  Plus what a good way to draw attention is by showing up after the race week starts.  Maybe FLO's numbers are a little soft because of the economy or can the Chili Bowl be bought on a one day pass?  Get all the  Nascar/ non short track people money.

Maybe someone can actually be a journalist and ask Kyle why he is racing the Chili Bowl?  And not let Kyle give a PR answer,  but they won't press him .  If they do press him then that journalist or podcast will probably be blackballed.  It is all just a game they need the big names for clicks and the racers need to do PR to push whatever at the moment.   Everything in this world is all optics.

Great idea!

As long as the same journalist you mention asks the other 370+ drivers why they are racing the Chili Bowl......

My $ is on Rodney "The Right Foot Rocket" Westhafer, beating KL with no issues. Guys a gasser.

Good news. You don't have to read any of my, or anybody else's posts. Bad news. You're starting to do the same things you did when your screen name was GL Hayden.

I didn't dismiss it, I read it & didn't think it made sense

What's he marketing? He doesn't need any of this dirt track racing, he's making Big $$$ with NASCAR

He does cause he enjoys it, & he's said that many times

I'll speak slower. He has adamantly talked down the chili bowl and has articulated several reasons.  But all of a sudden and at the last moment he's making a huge splash with media and fans by showing up late to enter and run in said race. You can think all you want that it's because he's a true racer and that he just wants to run races. But he is absolutely showing up there to bring/keep attention not only on him but specifically High Limits. If you don't understand that you don't understand PR and marketing. The fact you believe he's there simply because he wants to race is exactly how his marketingPR team is hoping you will view it.

So how does a person who doesn't know the difference between a fact and an opinion become a truth detector?  On a serious note, have you considered auditioning in Geico commercials?  A few years ago there was a few commercials around with what I would envision people just like you.  It's so easy..... a Strawser can do it.

This. He accomplished the primary goal just by showing up. Anything else was just a bonus.

Kinda like you acting like you helped Al Gore invent the internet just to get an ass made out of you by someone who actually knows what they're talking about?

isn't it possible both things are true?  he loves to race and wanted to race.  it could have been good prep for indy where he'll have to be at 2 places in 1 day.  if flo came knocking to make it happen...he didn't have to think twice.  i had thoughts about going to the lehigh valley phantoms game tomorrow night.  when i got free tickets my mind was made up.

Then he flips his car twice and will not be starting in the A main on Saturday.  He will need to be in Tulsa a lot sooner than he was planning.

Just proves that anything can happen to one of the best. To be honest of the 300+ cars most names are not names we recognize. Kyle was the one most were watching and even though He didnt lock in. As stated the heat draw and quality of drivers is the start of the process to score enough points and He had to make the A the hard way and did get up to 11th. Whatever outcome his presence added to the hype that the Chili Bowl has. Without Rico and Bell it added to the creditability to who ever wins the coveted Golden Driller. This is the biggest race of the year for midgets due to timing and drivers from others venues wanting to race . I was told that renting a top ride can be $25k + depending so The Golden Driller means more than money!

I'm sure Kyle Larson wants to be in Vado New Mexico about as bad as the Miami Dolphins want to be in Kansas City on Saturday night.

And you and FiXXXer never miss an opportunity to bash Larson, and in-turn, High Limit. Funny, I didn't see any High Limit decals on his car last night. But last night was all about promoting High Limit, right?

Nice to know we have someone on here who is that close to the Larson camp that he knows the exact reason Larson raced last night. Amazing insight.

Of course it's both things. It's a known thing that Kyle Larson loves to race. Kinda like the sun being hot or water being wet so I don't see the need to preface every Larson comment with "He loves to race but.....". Anyone who whether or not Larson loves to race at this point is dumber than Strawser. He does. Maybe as much as anyone who ever lived. Again, it's a known thing to virtually everyone who knows what a race car is at this point.

I don't bash Larson. I like him actually even if I don't agree with things he does all the time. It's ok to point out that he's a businessman and self promotion is something he does quite well. His most valuable business asset is himself and he knows it. It's not an insult. It's just a fact.....maybe even a compliment because he's reached such a status within the sport. But the people who gush over him like he's the 2nd coming of christ get ridiculously offended when anyone eludes to Kyle Larson the human rather than the god they seem to think he is. Obviously he created a huge buzz by being there but I don't think it was all about High Limit. Indirectly, it brings exposure to High Limit because he's part owner of the damn thing but I think it was more about Flo getting him there to create more buzz around the event and him pulling a favor for his most important investor. Without Flo, there's no High Limit. It's not bashing or an insult. It's business which is what any form of motorsports is. Just because he didn't have a sticker on the car doesn't mean shit. Marketing isn't always about smashing your product logo into everyone's faces. There's lots of different tactics marketing teams will use including playing up someone's image. Think about how Dale Earnhardt really played up the "Intimidator" thing. He gained that nickname by putting the fear of god into anyone who saw him in the rear view mirror and from being a legitimate hard ass on the track just like Kyle has gained  a reputation of racing anything, anytime, anywhere. Earnhardt made bank on being the Intimidator just like Kyle does being Yung Money. Again, it's ok to point this out and it doesn't mean that he doesn't love racing just because he's also very absorbed in the business side of things. After all, he's human. He may be an all time great in all of racing, but he's also a human. His groupies seem to forget that for some reason.
