Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don't live near the area. Isn't Atomic more known for non-wing sprint cars?
|
Atomic has been a winged track for as long as I can remember, late 80's for me. We just had a USAC show for the first time in 10-15 years. Mostly Wings and Super Lates are the main cars.

There's not really much of a non-winged presence in Ohio outside of the Eldora shows and maybe Waynesfield. I wish the current promotion team at Atomic the best of luck because it's a cool track and has a lot of potential (seating capacity, proximity to some decent sized towns)

I was just stating the truth. LOL. The reason we raced at lincoln Saturday is because our mechanic got his start helping Steve Smith out , and he wanted to race that race. As you say , I am speaking the truth.

Thanks. I might be thinking of Attica.

Atomic is semi-isloated, country side, but not far off the beatten path, in Alma, OH, a dedicated race facility. It has traditionally has ran winged sprints for decades, with an occasional BOSS or USAC show.
Whereas Attica is located in a smaller town, out-skirts of Attic, OH in a Seneca county fair grounds.. Whereas Fremont is located smack dab in town at their Sandusky County fairgrounds. These are more of a shared facility, with county fairs, flea markets, other events.
Atomic is the high-bank speedway, with Attica in-bwtween and Fremont more of a flatter banked track. All racy joints on any given day.
Waynesfield is another dedicated racing facility, again semi-isolated, but not far off a beaten path, a racy joint as well.
The Buckeye bash (?), when Lima, Attica, Fremont & Eldora ran a 4 night USAC race was a special event for a few years, wished it woudl return. All are more winged track with occasional USAC or BOSS race thrown in.

Of scheduling last weekend, BOSS was scheduled for Fri & Sat nights at I96, then Lima schedules a non-wing race on Fri and only gets 12 cars. I dont' think this was thought out very well.
I wished Wanyesfiled returned to a weekly show with the non-winged sprints, that was fun, except fo he trucks, who bounced all over hell and back on that track...rolling demo derby...

Attica is mostly winged cars too. They might run wingless occasionally, I'm not sure. Its very racy!
You're one state too far East. Indiana has wingless cars all over.....
