All you pretend race fans crack me up. I'm a sprint car guy 100%, but the race was great. 3 lanes the entire first stage. Sure was rubber down most of the race after, but it reminded me of Martinsville or old Bristol. 40 trucks on the track, lapped traffic, the race was exciting. Would it have been better if track held up more?...sure, but I'd watch 300 laps of Cup cars on that track before I'd watch most of the spread out cookie cutter tracks they run.
Biggest problem at the end was NASCAR needed the choose rule cause guys were getting burned if they were an even running position. That and a bunch of young kids were running out of talent and wrecking each other.
|
I feel like enjoyed it more than most on here, but not quite as much as you. I wasn't as worked up about the track rubbering down as most-------------it happens. What I couldn't take was the stalling to get the race back to green. Absolutely unbearable!
Anyways, I agree with your last statements. They needed to adopt the WoO rule where they clearly see a single lane has developed and go to a single file restart.
(also, were you in the stands or watching on TV? Just curious if better in person?)

In person. not as fast or racy as sprints but there was action all over the track. NASCAR and sprints are always better in person. Can see the comers and goers and not just what the camera from 400 feet away is looking at.
I just enjoy good racing and last night was good racing less a few guys playing bumper cars. The whiners are usually lying blowhards anyway. All of the "glad I didn't watch it" posts yet they knew exactly when it was over to run here and say how bad it sucked. Or the guy who apparently watched for three hours then turned it off in overtime to watch YouTube cause the restarts were unbearable. Seriously shut up. Like Democrats and Republicans.... bitch and whine, bitch and whine.
Don't let the loud minority fool you, it was a great event, a big crowd, Knoxville showed well, no dust bowl like Bristol or Eldora, just as good racing, better at times, worse at times. won't hesitate to buy tickets next year and neither will anyone I went with.

I agree with the driver that stated that opinion, seems like the crew chiefs knew the track would not be very raceable either. I forgot about them being at Knoxville, when I looked at the tube schedule I seen Iowa and assumed it was the paved speedway in Newton. I was pleasantly suprised to see the trucks at Knoxville but that only lasted about a half hour, it was just way to sucky to watch. Knoxville doesn't need that junk.
|
As far as I know Newton paved track is closed. Not enough fans show up at track. It was not a good idea to build track because not enough population to support it. They tried trucks and it did not work out good enough to do it again. That is my opinion any way. You do not know unless you try.

Lol at the pretend race fans. This pretend race fan will be there in August just like that last 40 years to watch real racing.
The trucks were a freight train until the train wreck at the end. Pretty much what I expected. Was it good exposure for knoxville, absolutely and good for them. Good thing with being a fan we can go watch what we want. Pretend fans included.

Yup, been going to races for 64 years. Everything fron jalopies to winged sprints. But I am just a "pretend" fan. OK. I find nothing wrong with calling a crappy show a crappy show. And those trucks put on a crappy show. That was not 3 wide racing, that was getting shoved out of the rubber and trying to force your way back in. Even Nascar should be smart enough to know that was going to be single file rubber down race.
And I have not seen 4 drivers driving 4 wide arguing over who restarts where lap after lap in many many years. Doesn't Nascar have radios??? And why let a guy circle for many laps under yellow with a bar sticking out of the front of his truck only to call him to the pit AFTER the race went back to green to have it cut off? Did they want to make sure thay guy did not have a good finish? TV kept talking about poor communication being the cause, but then again....doesn't Nascar have radios???

Even when I did watch NASCAR I never cared for the trucks. I watched the first truck race they had at Eldora several years ago and it bored me to tears. Because of that I never watched another one. I was never remotely interested in the truck race or the SRX race at Knoxville. I did watch a few laps of one of the SRX heats on YouTube after the fact but was not impressed with those cars either. if I wanna watch cars go that slow on a big track I can go watch the factory stocks run at Devils Bowl. Is there anyone on here who was actually surprised that it was crappy? I had that figured out when they announced it.

It was 3 groove racing most of the first stage... were you there or watching from your front row seat at the old folks home? You boys cry like babies at everything. I know, I know, everyone is entitled to their opinion. But jesus some of you bitch about everything. Probably knew you were gonna bitch as soon as the race was announced. Just counting down the days and laps so you could bitch.

My wife isn't into racing. She watched every reality show on television and texts back and forth with a few of her friends during the show. I was just thinking how Sprint are fans seem to have gotten to that same place. Most of us watching on TV and arguing about what we watched (not that being there would have made much difference).
I hit the remote after Schatz got crashed out. Couldn't take it anymore. My personal opinion, if NASCAR wants to sell their drivers as the best in the world then give them race cars. Build special cars/trucks for the dirt that handle like and are as fast as Dirt Late Models. Even the Late Models are fast enough that they put on a good show so purpose build some fast exciting dirt track machines and let these guys and gals prove they can cross back and forth and be competitive in real dirt cars. Otherwise it's just a novelty race and the opposite is true, they get desperate with five to go, run out of patience and talent and try to wreck their way to the win.

I would figure NASCAR isn't doing that because it would actually make sense. They could take the windows out, use tearoffs, and I'm sure Goodyear could make them a dirt tire. Then they could actually race on a quality dirt surface that we know the Dunkins (spelling?) can prepare.

They probably don't do that for a couple reasons. The first is they view these events on dirt as novelty races to reach out to dirt track fans and it wouldn't be worth the time, effort or money for them to prepare a separate car or truck for a couple races. If these events catch on, maybe they would do that but in all honesty, why would anyone want that. There are already dozens upon dozens of dirt track classes and even hobby stock classes are as fast and entertaining as a nascar truck. Second, if they made these things more compatible to dirt, then the drivers with dirt track experience would most likely mop the floor with the drivers and teams that only have a pavement background even more than they already do. They probably don't want that. The last reason is that they might actually believe this is good, exciting racing. This is nascar after all.

Gee, excuse me. I thought in the USA everyone had a right to express their opinion! But you are telling posters that don't share your opinion to shut up! WOW!

This sorta reminds of the twins that talk non stop about a PA track. If ya dont like something that is on tv(computer) dont watch it. I dont like CNN, so I dont watch it. Pretty simple. I watched first part of the truck race...got boring turned it off. Some people found it entertaining some didnt. Doesnt mean people arent real race fans or sprint car fans because they thought this was boring.

Pretend race fans, right....
The first stage was better than any dirt racing NASCAR has produced. The 2nd stage was pretty much par for the course. The 3rd stage and overtime was embarassing. If you can't see that, you're being a bit of mark.

I've been a pretend race fan since 1973.
I figure it's like this- I don't care for rap music or NASCAR racing. If someone else likes those things, good for them. I'm glad you enjoyed the race. Calling people names becasue they don't agree with you makes you look rather immature.

This judging of who is a "real racing fan" is getting old. A person has to have a fragile ego to boast about being more of a fan than others. You're at 64 years watching races, I'm at 61 and counting and many of us have spent time involved in racing one way or another. With me it was writing and photography, others are former drivers, car owners and sponsors. Now that TV is a thing some say anyone who doesn't attend at the track is not a racing fan. I don't know many "non-racing-fans" paying upwards of $500 for a couple streaming channels and making a few trips to the track. Some go every week, I prefer not to sit through six classes to see fifteen minutes of Sprints. The correct answer is "all of the above", we're all racing fans if we come here and get involved in this madness. Nobody but a racing fan would put up with this grief just to chat about racing except fans of racing.
At least it's entertaining.
