is there any reading on how you prepare a track? it gets thrown around all the time that they didn't prepare it right without many specifics about how they decide when to water it, put the push tracks out, etc. "running in the top" with push trucks makes sense.
i'm still in the old school where i ask people to back up what they say with facts and showing they have some knowledge base. people should expect the same from me.
i've seen the grove and lincoln so uneven this year that cars flipped over early in heat races. you got a little out of the groove and the car was bouncing up and down. that would seem like bad track prep. i've never seen that at port royal. it always seems smooth and at least not dangerous.
by the way...i thought the decisions to postpone by port royal were the right ones. everybody would whine if they tried to have the race, a shower showed up, and they postponed with everybody there. it's been misty all day at least in mechanicsburg.

"Is there any reading on how you prepare a track?"
I wish there was. Seems like its somewhere in that netherworld between art & science. I'd like to see a good article about it in SC&M!
Lots of people here debate about track prep, but all I can tell is if the race was competitive or not. Don't care about lap times either (within reason). Its a mystery to me....
One thing I suspect is that alot of it has to do with type of dirt available in the area, rather than how you work it...

And above all else, nothing effects track conditions more than weather. The guy on the grader doesn't have shit on what mother nature can do.

Did anyone catch the TV version of Winged Nation this past Saturday and the interview with Brent Marks? He was highly complimentary of Port Royal and it's track prep. Would think his opinion would count more than any of us yahoos on here...

Hey look, Strawser and WingedStrawser are reporting to each other. Don't they usually hospitalize people who talk to themselves??

I think we get it about your disdain for dry tracks. I am the same way about the Friday night track 30 miles from my house Rock Rapids, IA. A simple fix- I don't go. I don't get on facebook, twitter, 4m, hoseheads and cry about how much I hate the place on a daily basis.
I have never been to any PA track. Following results online there have been some night where Macri passed a ton of cars, without being there it sure seemed like damn good racing to me. Others on here said the same thing. I have also seen some online reviews stating the WoO late model race was NOT good racing, not every night can be great.
We have had quite a bit of rain in my area, last night huset's had its rough spots and there were quite a few wrecks. The "Macri of Husets" aka Jack Dover charged from 17th to 3rd so I thought the racing was pretty damn good and provided some passing.
I do find it interesting that Lincoln and Port are both running tonight, Monday curious if some of you posse folks can give some info on that. I will be at Husets for 7500 to win 410s and 6000 to win late models sounds great to me!

One of the better races of the year anywhere. I was confused because I was told by one guy with 2 screen names on Hoseheads that the racing there sucked.

Great racing all nite, heats included!
LIke I said before, I know diddley about track prep, but whatever they did tonite was perfect.
Macri is definitely The Man of the Future in Central Pa. ...always makes it interesting
But glad to see Lance win one for Davey Brown's EIGHTY SEVENTH birthday present!:)
Lots of people live a long time, but to do something BETTER than anyone else like Davey does at 87 is amazing! :)

Heat races were good. Feature was even better. I don't think there was an unhappy person there even if their guy didn't win. I said eary in the race Macri would win or knock the right rear off trying. He sure put on a show and so did many others.

Not only that, how about Dietrich from 17th to 4th in the feature & Macri winning his heat from 7th?
The only thing I didn't get was the passing points system. Why did DD start 17th in the feature after winning his heat? He started 2nd in the heat, & passed as many cars as he could... what was he supposed to do to get passing points, lap everyone? Seems pretty screwy to me...

Didnt they invert the top 8 in each heat? Deetrich must have had a terrible time trial to start 2nd in his heat. So why would he be rewarded for that?

And the endless babbling goes on. Strawman, port put on one hell of a good show. You and your sidekick can sit together at lincoln and enjoy the racing. Please, don't you ever go back to port royal, nobody will miss you and the best racers will show up there on Saturday nights. Boy it was nice seeing the weikert 29 out there, wish they still had a car out there.

Drivers earned points for TT and points in their heats (finishing position and passing). After the heats, totalpoints earned were tallied. Top ten total point earners got to redraw for top 10 starting spots. A main positions 11-20 as well as B main lined heads up based on total points earned. Bmain finishers 1-4 lined up in positions 21-24 based on Bmain finish. DD placed 17th in points after the qualifying events so he started 17th in the A main.

A night and day difference with track conditions from the week before with the WoO Late Models and yesterday. I'll just chauk it up to an off weekend with track prep for the DLM's, it happens. You could not ask for any better racing than yesterday, both with the heat races and the feature. I try to hit Port Royal for six to eight races a year, and I am satisfied after watching The Bob Weikert.
