Well that's interesting. It costs less per mile to fly that plane through the sky than what it costs per mile to race a sprint car around a dirt track.

It's cheaper than you think to buy it and run it when tax write offs come in to play with the several business going on there
|
Not really. A tax write-off means you don't pay income taxes on the money spent for business purposes. If you are in the highest tax bracket, that's 36%. You'd save 36 cents of every dollar you'd spend on the plane's use. You'd stiil pay the other 64 cents out of every dollar.

I think you guys get all too serious too quickly. I laughed at this, the same way I would've laughed if he had posted a picture of Snoopy flying on his doghouse.

I think that the underlying implication here is that he bought it with his racing winnings. What some don't realize is that the family owns a chain of truck stops. If World of Outlaws drivers could afford private jets they'd all own one.

I though they owned several and wasn't trying to ruin your day. Innocent assumption, no harm intended.

As a pilot myself I have recently noticed that Donny Schatz has upgraded his private jet. His former jet was a Cessna CJ2 Citation, registration N525KP. This jet had a maximum seating capacity of 9 and a maximum cruise speed of 428 knots.
He now owns a Cessna CJ4 Citation registration N415SD. It has a maximum seating capacity of 10 and a maximum cruise speed of 481 knots and a much larger range. He just flew home to Fargo, ND after the Saturday night WOO race at Monroe, LA and his flight time was 2 hours and 19 minutes.
He also owns a MU2 twin engine turboprop aircraft that he flies to races that are shorter trips.
|
How long a runway does the new jet require? Just wondering how many airports outside of the big ones he can fly into. But man, that's a quick trip from LA to ND. There's not a whole lot of commercial service to ND so flying commercial you'd be lucky to only have one connection,

Good one :)
Plus hate puts more fans in the stands. People were starting to not hate him as much since not winning as much. Remember the good ole days when he flipped in front of Beer Hill and got showered with beer cans. $6M jet flying to dirt tracks another reason to hate :)
Also gotta give him props for still racing out of sheer love of it. No doubt doesn't need to if can drop coin like that.
They don't even know how to spell sprint car

It's the internet, where every know-it-all is allowed to look like a fool- you included. Reread your last sentence and look in the mirror. With that attitude, shouldn't you be over on Facebook calling people names, and not on a racing forum set up to talk about racing?

Incorrect. They own two. They own Minot(Schatz Crossroads) and Fargo(Petro). Why would the family live in Fargo and own a business in Minot?

I can't imagine Schatz could afford a private jet based off his race winnings alone, considering the amount of money it costs to keep such an operation on the road (but I admittedly really have no idea); I also can't imagine he doesn't have at least a little advantage over his rivals who have to drive or ride from race-to-race. But one thing can't be disputed: he's one of the greatest ever, regardless of any of that. And as someone else mentioned, he seems to be a fair driver. If he flew from race-to-race and knocked people out of his way when he got there, there might be a debate to be had.

geezus some of yall need to lighten up. Stan posted a innocent enough comment.
Id assume Schatz gets a salary from TSR, and now maybe even Ford? He probably does all right for himself and his family.
On a side note about Schatz flying, didnt he give someone a ride recently(was it for medical reasons? I cant remember, but I thought I read that. Probably wrong

How come Donnie has never got a nickname Associated to him? Since he flies planes they could call him "Daredevil Donnie from da Dakotas"
He could be quadruple D cause hes more than twice the champ of DD.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

The Schatz never hurted for money. Dam when Donny started racing he had the best of everything. Did you see there motorcoach at track. Must be around 1.5 million for that one. Great driver for sure.

I agree. Cubes would be the winner because no matter how outlandish his posts are, he still manages to reel in rubes that act like it is a serious debate. Stawser is just an idiot with an axe to grind against one track.
