In my opinion; the SHR team is out as there will be no room at the Inn (as they say). Even if Bowyer were to leave; I believe the due up would be Briscoe. So a mute point to me...

Alex Bowman raced Chili Bowl while under contract with Hendrick. Think it was once only but..

Also; kinda funny story...  William Byron had shown interest in sprint cars when they were all racing them on their SIM's. He did an awesome job. He had a podium finish and the guys interviewed him after the race and asked him if he has any interest in ever getting in a real sprint car.  He said of course he would ..SOMEDAY ; but now isn't the time. (Not the exact quote). And he has access as he is dating Dave Blakey's daughter. Wouldn't that be cool!?

As for Jeff Gordon; he has pull in who goes in the #48. He is part owner of that car. Don't know if it's 50% or what.
So, there's always that niche.

Last, word on the street is that Denny Hamlin is buying out one of the teams that is quitting. How good of friends are they?

Just some thoughts... but I think the SHR camp is full.

You are correct------talking about it is actually more fun than turning on the races ;)

I've watched some of the Nascar races on their YouTube replay this summer from all 3 series. That way I can fast forward through all of the cautions. I will say the racing has impressed me from the aspect that it has been better than the past 5-8 years. That being said, it still is not anywhere near what it used to be when I watched it in the 90's and probably not what some remember in the 80's either.

The commentary however is horrific. If you play a drinking game and take a drink anytime one of the many commentators or pit reporters says the word intensity you will die of alcohol poisoning well before the race is over in any of the series. I wish they would just learn to be themselves and just talk like they would normally talk. Not every pass is an incredible pass.

You are right-----the racing is "meh" at best but the commentary is just a disaster.  It all started with Darrell trying to act like Terry Bradshaw on Fox Sundays---and failing.  Once the Waltrip clown was out, he passed it on to his younger brother.  Now, everyone has decided that what Nascar wants is fake hype, stupid skits, and dumb catch phrases for an hour before the green flag.  Kinda like when they thought they coined the term slide-job a few years back.  It's just terrible----much worst than the racing.

You know what else I really like?  Kyle Petty, Michael Waltrip, Regan Smith, and Ricky Craven giving insight and criticizing drivers and teams that aren't winning.  And, explaining what they need to do different.  By the way, combined they have 15 wins in 2,115 starts in the Cup series.

It's tough to watch.  But, after all of that, when Kyle was in the race, I had it on.  He had a way to make me watch and I'd do it again.

They did seem to try to replicate the same type of broadcast that the NFL tries to put on, especially the pre-game style show as you mentioned. At first I liked Darrell as an announcer, but the more & more flamboyant he became it quickly got old. Back in May and June I was watching some old Cup and Busch races and Darrell would actually call some of the Busch races on TNN and he was completely different. He was informative, knowledgable, and would still crack a joke or two but nothing like he became. You listen to some of those old TNN, ESPN, CBS broadcast from guys like Bob Jenkins, Eli Gold, Jerry Punch, with former drivers like Benny Parsons and Ned Jarrett and they stayed calm the whole time while giving everyone the information. Then suddenly they wanted to become NFL light when they are not football, never were going to get close to the popularity that football is in our country.

Funny thing you didn't mention about Kyle Petty, Michael Waltrip, Regan Smith, and Ricky Craven is of those 15wins over half of them were from Kyle Petty with 8. I do have a soft spot for Petty though because sadly he was my favorite driver growing up, mainly because I loved the Mello Yello car and the Hot Wheels car (careful kids to not pick your favorites based on color schemes or sponsors). Plus at least he is honest and admits he was a never was who rode his daddy's coat tails.

I'm starting to watch it more although its days after the race than what I use to. I still cannot figure out why you need 2-3 people for a pre race show that are more or less useless, 3-4 people in the booth, 3 people in the studio,  and about 8 pit road reporters for a race. Plus a pre race show prior to the pre race show that lasts for over an hour, followed by 30mins of opening ceremonies, the race, then post race show, then a post race show of the post race show. Seems a bit overkill. Especially when Nascar was gaining in popularity it was with 2-3 people in the booth, and maybe 4-5 people in the booth with possibly 30min pre race show if they were lucky, which the final 5mins was the opening ceremonies and at 1:01pm/est it was Gentlemen Start Your Engines. Now you are lucky if the thing starts before 3pm est.

Your mini rant about too much pregame reminds me of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. Our CFL team. One radio station here has the 10 hour game day. They created it and continue it because people tune in. We love our Riders and the radio guys do it well so on game day if you don't like football you may as well press CD on the dashboard.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

The only guarantee is that Kyle will be racing sprint cars until the end of this year mostlikey at races around the country with good sized purses.. After that is anyone's guess.

I would rather him race full time with the Outlaws next year and have a chance at winning the championship. Of course financially he would make a lot more money with Nascar so he will take a cup ride if he is offered one.

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

The entire NFL atmosphere, and goofy antics started with the very first race on FOX.  I can't stand to watch the NFL pregame on FOX and I can't stand to watch any of the pre/post race crap you mentioned for NASCAR.  If I do tune into a sporting event, I tune in at kickoff/first pitch/drop of the green.  Like you say though, with NASCAR, it's tough to even know when the green drops.  For Daytona every year, it's a big secret so you tune into the dribble about how this made up "race" is the biggest race of the year.

As far as Kyle Petty and Regan Smith, those 2 don't bother me as bad as Waltrip and Craven.  Waltrip is a straight up idiot.  Craven sits at that desk like some sort of legendary expert.  What, 2 wins?  And then bad mouths the Knoxville Nationals as the equivalent of the Little League World Series when Kyle finishes 2nd to Schatz?  Screw both of those morons.  Cool you followed Petty growing up.  I remember one race in particular where he unloaded so fast no one was going to stop him.  It was at Dover in the mid-late 90's.  He was in the Hot Wheels car, and put all but 3 cars a lap or more down.  Problem was, his car was so fast, he was the only car that had to stop for fuel at the end and I think he still finished 3rd or so.  I believe Martin won.  Ring a bell?

I have probably tuned in to a total of 2 hours of Nascar since Larson's departure.  And, most of my tuning in is on DVR so I can fast forward to the last 20 laps.  Tough to watch.  Pre race is tough to watch.  Post race is tough.   As you said, I feel like there are more analysts and experts then there are drivers.  When Kyle returns, I'll tune into more races.  Until then, it's not worth it.

I worked hard to supress that fall Dover race in 97 in my memory, thanks for reminding me of it haha. I could only listen to it on the radio as we did not have cable yet and just remember Alan Beswick I think stating he was coming to pit road and I just fell to the floor in dissappointment. I knew he would probably have no shot at winning another race again and he didn't. He had done the same thing at Dover in 95 only made it on fuel, and prior if you went to Rockingham the only hope of someone else winning was for Petty to wreck or blow up. Craven can go to hell and so can Rusty Wallace with his commentary. I remember when Stewart broke his leg in 2013 Wallace stating he did not know how Tony could look his sponsors in the eye after getting hurt in a minor league type of racing or maybe it was high school level  racing.

Larson made me watch more than I probably would have watched had he not been there, same with Tony and Kasey. Anymore I just wait 3-4days for them to post on youtube and watch them that way. Some of the races have had some pretty good moments but like I said, hearing Jeff Burton, Steve Latarte, and Dale Jr sound like school girls just over someone passing someone on the outside gets old. Along with repeatdly saying words like intensity, desire, and stategy. Really if Dale Jr just talked like he did on his podcast it would be a lot better and if Jeff Burton did the same as he does on his tv show.

Not sure if Larson will land anywhere in 2021. Either way its a win for me because he will be racing somewhere that I can watch.
