The "so and so watching Flo tonight" is getting old, but I love all the new sayings I'm hearing from a lot of these announcers.

I heard something about waving the doctors coat the other night that caught my attention.  I laughed my ass off the first time I heard the School Bus driver taking everyone to school.  Theres been a lot of great one lately.

I still love hearin Johnny say all alone on prom night.  Brings back so many great memories of the PS2 game.

I like Wayne Harper & Bruce Ellis. Less is more. They are not radio broadcasters.

Most announcers now a days are yelling and carrying on when not much is happening and

I just put on the mute. Not every pass is a slide job, they aren't nose to tail if they are 5 cars lenghts apart

and rarely are they 3 wide for more than a second.

"annoying shills overselling the action on the track"

You must be talking about Gibson.

I'm okay with Bruce...I will take a laid back guy with a ton of knowledge over the superhype...

You young bucks probably never heard the guy that all others are measured against, the late great Jack Miller.

My thoughts:

I still enjoy Bruce announcing at Williams Grove. He is the only announcer that I have known at Williams Grove since going to my first race in 1980. Agree about Dave Hare at BAPS. He is one of the best announcers in the entire country in my opinion. He has a great voice and is very knowledgable with all types of racing, from Super Sportsmen, Late Models to Sprint cars. I never get tired of hearing him announce a race. Port Royal: I love and appreciate everything they have done with the track over the last few years, but to constantly solicit positive comments from every driver that is interviewed is getting quite old. I have attended well over 100 dirt tracks, all over the country, in my day and NOT ONE OTHER track has an announcer who seeks out the "praise" like they do at Port Royal. ENOUGH, WE GET IT!!!!

Couldn't agree more. All the upgrades are great. Everyone is appreciative of what they've done....but SHUT UP ABOUT IT. We all have eyes. There's no need to brag about it like you're the only track who's ever made upgrades. It's really getting old.

Haha. I used to see the school bus line on those old AND1 t-shirts that were big on the playground courts in the very early aughts.

I enjoy listening to Bruce Ellis at Williams Grove as well . He has his own style which I think is very professional and I don't feel like he is trying to sell me something all night. If I'm watching a good race, I don't need some guy all hyped up and screaming at volume 10+++   . I was a little surprised he didn't ask Freddie abut Macri  in his interview but that's ok.

Bruce always leaves us wanting more. JMO

Chet Christner is my fave. He feels the same way about racing that I do. Would love to get a "Dropthehamma" sticker.

To the comment about Freddie driving like his old man, I for 1 hope so, Hall Of Fame, 500 wins, too many championships, a driver & a family to admire.

Being aggressive is sometimes confused with being dirty. It's a mind set to Win, not a decision to be dirty. Second guessing with a keyboard anyone who has the balls to go 140mph in a glorified gocart, that should be illegal.  Have a nice holiday...

I have to use the mute button when he says that baby talk stuff. I only made it through 100 laps of the little 500 last night before muting. Announcers who try to be the show instead of announcing the show drive me nuts.

To each their own. If we were all clones life would be pretty boring.

When Christner announces at Lincoln for Flo, he takes over for Harper on the broadcast but leaves Kroll to do the dash and VL interviews. Christner and Kroll is cruel and unusual punishment for the average race fan.

Christner is pretty fun IMO but I don't hear him all that much, I don't think I could handle hearing him for every race. Those guys I heard at Port Royal last night on Flo were terrible, they made me want to stick ice picks in my ears, that one dude would wind up to his high pitch sqeal every other lap. Kinda reminds me of gibson..

Maybe brenter the tenter will know this? Was Ted Reitz(sp) the announce at the Grove before Bruce? That guy was a lot of fun it seemed in those days.

The dude is the King of dead air time. He is a horrible slow talking Announcer.

Rather have dead air and slow speaking than the circus that takes place in Port Royals press box every week.

William's Grove>Port Royal

Fight me.

AGREED !!!

I like Johnny, i was more referring to the Port announcers or some of the local dirt modified or late model tracks you hear on Flo or elsewhere.

Now that we're on announcing topics, a pet peeve of mine that has come up recently....does anyone care whos watching on Flo? I'd rather have dead air than listen to "Brad Doty's watching on Flo tonight..."

Your pet peeve is also one of mine... I am hoping announcers can find the sweet spot because I also don't like the ones that forget they're also streaming to a national audience, and we don't see "so and so" down at the bottom of the grandstands or other shout outs.

Several announcers in my parts of the world (Western NY/NYS) do this and it drives me CRAZY.

So, I do think that Jonny does a good job of maintaining professional demeaner and balancing his announcing for both those in the stands and those at home.

And I don't know why, but I love how Bruce Ellis says "Lance DeWease" and get annoyed whenever he's co-announcing with Jonny or Blake and they end up getting to call Lance's time trial instead of Bruce!
