Where are you located? A guy named Josh Johnson nearly won a race last weekend at River Cities Raceway in a sprint car that he spend $2800 on TOTAL. Scroll down on the following link for more information.

You know this so I'm not addressing specifically to you.  The UMSS motor program is said to be cheaper than a 305 and they can run the cars in their winged or non-wing divisions with a few minor changes.  Their brand of racing is taking off all over the upper Midwest and they're running a two night show at Cedar Lake this weekend.  If anyone wants to check them out they can tune in to Cedar Lake Speedway on Floracing this Friday and Saturday night.

Seems these days that a lot of the fans are "speed freaks" aka winged 410's only but there is more to racing than ten second laps.  Keeping in mind that many of our heroes who are enshrined in the SCHOF never ran a lap under 20 seconds on a half mile in their entire careers.  Speed isn't everything.

Making an exception to lurking this one time to hopefully make a valuable addition to this discussion.

Actually a faster motor doesn't mean a faster car when it comes to dirt racing.  It's all about handling and grip when your on dirty. The faster your tires spin. The slower the car is moving.

I agree. It's all about handling and grip when your on dirt. The faster your tires spin the slower you are actually going

1. Buy a spare chassis, you can get good ones for 2K with a body

2. Used front and rears are plentiful. Check the front axles closely for cracks, the rear, put in new bearings and again make sure the axle is not bent. Your a racer, those items are easy to detect. 125.00 to 1500.00

3. Steering gears,  500 to 750

4. Your biggest cost will be the motor. That cost will depend on what you can do. I'd look for one that needs rebuilt, and go from there and budget your rebuilding costs.

I listed some used items here. There is a point where you should never by used. From the front to back.

Spindles

Radius rods, build new ones with new rod ends,

Steering arms off the gear and spindle

Motor plates

Seat w/belts

Any Torsion bar components

Birdcage

Wheels

Seems like a lot, but, most have no clue what a tiny Crack in components will cost you in the long run. You get upside down, and you will eventually,  by parts failure or other factors how expensive it is to replace shit.

Good Luck, Hope you get the chance to get out there.
