I dont like this one bit, this is like a slap in the face to all the people that have supported Knoxville for years.
They are the bully of this whole thing, this could of been a normal knoxville show with no support class and taken off just fine.
But I forgot its the Outlaw Teams that have all the local sponsorship, buy all the local tires, fuel, parts, and are going to continue to race there and support the track.
The Circus is coming to town to steal your money and leave, wonder why no "outlaw" team showed up last weekend to race?
Cant imaging being someone who has been racing for years and all your sponsors hear about it, and you dont get the nod to attend the show because your not "elite" enough.

I think you're missing something important here. The WoO is investing the money in what is basically an experiment to try to figure out how to get sprint car racing restarted. I don't think there would be local money willing to make this gamble with a local show right now. I could be wrong. I guess you could prove us wrong by lining up finincing for a local show the following week.
Where did it say the locals couldn't race at this WoO show?

Here is the invitation process -
The events will be by invitation-only and all full-time World of Outlaws drivers are expected to be in attendance. Each race will feature a 48-car field, filled out with a mix of local, regional and national stars following a process guided by the World of Outlaws utilizing the Top 18 in each of the following: World of Outlaws point standings (’19 & ’20) along with Knoxville Raceway (’19), DIRTcar Late Model National (’19) and DIRTcar Summer Nationals (’19) point standings. Any eligible driver will be listed on the initial roster and will have 48 hours to contact Series officials to accept their invitation. The field will be rounded out using World of Outlaws Promoter’s Choice, current iRacing DIRTVision standings and current series standings.

That sure looks to me like most of the locals would be there racing- at least in 410's.

In six months we can revisit this whole virus thing and it's affect on racing. By then everything should be more clear and we'll know if the states over reacted or were correct in their predictions that it would spread across the country. At that point those of us who trust the science might be proven wrong. On the other hand the people wanting to reopen as soon as possible might be vindicated if it subsides. Right now these first events are like the proverbial "canary in the coal mine" and should provide some insight on how the precautions work in practice. There have been reports of Wisconsin residents contracting the virus after they voted in their primary a couple weeks ago. If we start seeing that sort of thing at these no fans allowed sporting events the states will clamp down on them.
I commented on the Outlaws in another post that they're doing what they have to do to keep their name out there while also protecting their drivers, crews and officials as well as their fans. I hope this all works out but I suspect we won't see a lot of regular weekly racing as the week in and week out programs depend on fans and concessions.
I'm high risk so I'm taking the season off from attending races and limiting my races to PPV. Hell, I'm too old and slow to beat the crowd to the ticket booth if they limit to 25% so I won't waste my time making the road trips because I'd lose that foot race to the ticket booth every time. I think if any tracks do open to fans us old gray haired folks aren't going to be well represented this season but if it works well I hope the younger fans are able to keep it going.

I'm trying to figure out what those who are offended by this think the other options are. It's either this, which will include the WoO regulars, and pretty much every regular Knoxville team from the last two years or......nothing.
Knoxville is not going to open up for a regular show with the restrictions still in place, because it would most likely be a financial disaster. This is not going to be the new normal and the promotors, sanctioning bodies, and the tracks know that it is not sustainable in the long run....I'm still not sure why people are worried about that. If and when fans and racers can all safely be allowed back into tracks and the government authories loosen the reigns, that is what is going to happen. This is a stop gap to get something in front of a race starved public and give teams that race for their livelihoods an opportunity to actually race. This race could not possibly happen without sponsors kicking in for the purse, so they must be on board, because even with gangbuster PPV, there is no way that pays the purse, the sanctioning fees, the track, and all the personnel involved. Those who think this is the future, are the same ones who were worried that Iracing is going to take over for real racing....if there is one thing this lockdown has put to bed, it's that thought. Iracing has been helpful and entertaining, but has proven to be no substitute for the real thing.
We are in an unprecedented situation right now, and this is a start of trying to slowly return to some semblance of normal. If you think this is the way anyone wants to do this in the long term you are crazy. If they were allowed to and they knew it was safe to open the gates and restart their entire regular schedule, they would do it in a heartbeat, but right now the options are something like this where everyone is on board or....or we wait another month to see if maybe we can race again with fans in the stands. They have to try and be creative at this point, just to get the ball rolling and I applaud them for doing so, like I applaud TMac and Park Jefferson for being bold last weekend.

One would think, but Knoxville Drivers that were not in the Top 18 in 410 points last year, plan on racing 410s this year there, or ran other 410 shows at Knoxville but not to get points include but not limited to as I have to get ready for tonights Channel 4 News.

Also you have 3 teams and 3 drivers who where in top 18 in points but now had a new ride or driver, who will get their enter? Car Owner or Driver?
But heck, Logan Seavy is up in the iRacing Standings so I am sure the KKM 67 Car will get an Invite.
And looks like Tyler Courtney gets to come race with the Outlaws..Its all pick and choose not first come first serve. Rich get Richer

I dunno. The end of the press release says "The field will be rounded out using WoO Promoter's choice.... etc.". Wouldn't Knoxville Raceway be the promoter and have a big say in putting in some local crowd favorites and Knoxville supporters? It's not like all 48 openings are handed to the 48 WoO platinum teams on the circuit or anything. Appears to me that this is less of a problem than you're thinking it will be.
Besides, maybe having Logan Seavy (who?) in the mix might go a long ways in reminding people that iRacing and real racing are two entirely different things?

48cars are giong to be at the event or at least that is the cap if all 48 invitees can make it which we all assume they will because, not like there is another race happening. Take the Top 18 (which includes K.Madsen & B.Brown into account as they were in the top 18) that leaves 30 slots. I am not sure how many times Knoxville got up to 30cars on a weekly show but all things considered, I am sure there will be plenty of local guys able to race.

I guess some people will never be happy in life no matter what happens. Something good happens and they will always want more or think they are still being treated unfair. Some of the comments on here show that some people just have find a way to be miserable and complain just to survive.

On dirtvision's website it has scheduled an event, on May 8th, at Knoxville. Is this a live race, or something else?
|
It is a live event with no people in the stands like Park Jefferson was.

Man, this announcement kinda rubs me the wrong way. While I'm sure everyone is happy that they'll have a chance to watch the outlaws again soon, this "no fans in the stands" model is not the answer and definitely not sustainable for much longer as other tracks begin to slowly open up. If anything I feel this is greed from WRG based on the apparent success, or at least the overwhelming interest in ppv from the Park Jefferson event and they want their hand in that cookie jar too, so they'll make their teams haul out for a one-off event to get some of that moola. This model only had the success/interest it had is because there was NOTHING competing against it. This will likely be the case for this race as well. However when more small/local tracks start to open up, possibly hoping to grab some ppv money to offset their reduced restricted attendance, they will all be competing against each other, on several different ppv platforms and it will not work. So therefore, restricted attendance programs won't work unless they charge entry fees, inflate pit passes an admission and cut purses. I hate to say it, but I see MANY tracks not even opening this year as restricted attendance, concessions, merch, etc will be profit prohibitive for these businesses. One poster on another thread said tracks should open up even if they take losses this year. No way that will happen. Any word if this is going to be a points race for the outlaws?
|
Of course its not "the answer". Its a temporary attempt to deal with a lousy situation. The only "answer" is for all this to end.
Not sure what you're upset about, unless you live in the area & want to see it live. Thats certainly understandable. People all over the world are missing things they love to do. It will end, eventually

Call me crazy but won't it be hard to find (48) 410s to run? Or is this gonna pull from all of the US? I think they could get it filled but I'm guessing pretty well any 410 team within 300 miles of the track is going to have an opportunity to run.

Wait..people have a problem with this happening? Dont they like sprint cars? I think its a great idea. As far as cars go...they have the top whatever in points with Outlaws and Knoxville. Should give them a certain amount of time to sign up and then open it up to whoever wants a spot.

They had 38 last june for the WoO show and that was with every other track in the country running. They had 32 in South Dakota, why wouldn't they get 48 to Knoxville?
