360 format was weekly Knoxville format used by 360's & 410's. Don't like it buy Husets and do it your own way. Racing has been great at Knoxville this season.

Thanks for the info, but i don't see why you needed to add the smart ass " Don't like it buy Husets and do it your own way." comment. I though forums were about free exchange of ideas.....

Yes, I understand how inverts work. And, yes, I understand times are close together. My point is that qualifying should not count more towards the night than racing. Simple as that. In every format that I've ever seen, including the Knoxville Nationals, if you win your heat race, you go to the feature. Why should this format be different than that?

Agreed!

So you want guys to basically sandbag time trials because there is more reward landing on the invert just right? Why quick time when you just need to land on the front row, win the heat, then start in front of the feature? Nah...pass. Format for racing is good. Time, heat, dash, feature. And the knoxville Wed and Thurs format is the BEST around. Unbeatable format. Used to be Friday at Knoxville was a throw away night. Very skippable. Now, it is actually as good as it can be with last chance and a shot at making the A by winning the night.

You never saw a NSL sanctioned race their first season when it was winged 410's then. That is where Knoxville got this format at. Can say I've never heard any complaints about it in the pits or at the drivers meeting.

all this format & everything discussion aside, Gio is my pick to take the big prize. Being from Central Ca. & watching him develop it's easy to side with this opinion, and not really as a darkhorse, underdog, or what have you. the kid has been exceptional at finding the fast way around any track he shows up to. I know there's lots of heavy hitters going after that title, & this kid is one of them. Should be good

Think their issue was more with how many cars they decided to take from each B. Not sure why they took 4 each from two Bs, so they only locked in 16 throught the heats. Feel like it makes way more sense to take top 9 in points from each group in heats (18 total) and then lock in 6 (3 each in the B), or even top 10 in points from each group in heats and lock in 4 (2 each). Not going to run the numbers but I'm guessing McKenna and Alex Hill make the show there?

No "sandbag time trials", blow off qualifying all together. random draw for heats, maybe then reverse starting lineup & run it back, highest average finishes qualify? I'm not claiming to know the perfect answer, no way to make it 100% fair, just a suggestion. I just think heat winners should make the Feature, & racing is more entertaining than Qualifying
For Nationals, with 100 plus entries, Knoxville format works great, agreed

or maybe make points from heats & qualifying equal, rather than giving more points for qualifying?

The whole point of this discussion was that McKenna and Alex Hill missed directly transfering to the A by winning their respective heats.

You mean another outstanding young driver that come from California? Yes, and in addition to Buddy Kofoid these 2 guys are some the best 17 years old that can win anywhere! There is no doubt that California has produced some of the best young talent in sprint car racing. I am a little biased since I have grown up watching sprint car races in CA. I and very proud of our guys when they start dominating here and they go onto do great things racing around the country! Kyle Larson, Brad Sweet, Carson Macedo, Cory Eliason, Gio and Dominic Scelzi, Buddy Kofoid, Tanner Carrick, Logan Seavey, and more. Next driver I can see coming up and moving onto race around the county is Shane Golobic because he wins many races. I am lucky to live in a state with great sprint car series, great drivers, many tracks, great weather, and racing from March to November!
Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!
Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

Not to mention wild fires over population and pollution.
Just razzing you. I'd love to have a sprint track withing 8 hrs of my house, let alone the opportunity to watch racing at it for more than 2 warm months of summer.
Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

I agree with all your points.
It's also really something that Gio's brother Dominic won his King of the West 410 feature in a great battle to the finish on the same night as well. Dom's win in California actually came before Knoxville's main event even started at least by my online feed. Plus the Santa Maria track Dom was racing at had 5 divisions (410's,305's,1200's, dwarfs and hobby stocks) and his was the last event of the night! Fans were out the gate in CA by 10pm. Thats a good tight show. Knoxville usually gets it right and I'm sure they'll make corrections but yeah, too late of a start for seemingly no real reason.

Just got to say hello to Hank. Your Cali Dirt Trckin' brother got out of the hospital after 10 month visit for Colin cancer ! Still have lots of recovery as I use a wheel chair still. Hope to make T cup so look for me on those Thunder bowl streams. By the way the Scelzie's are really getten' Dr done representing central valley but, I have feelling Cory Eliason is gonna bust out and put the Rudeen twenty six in 360 nats at the top sat nite. All my $$ on Larson for this year's 410 natty's. Peace brother and looking forward to your company at the dirt track in the future.
From central coast of Cali.
Peace, Out.

i was at the Santa Maria race, watched Dom come from 5th starting to track down Chase Johnson for the win. For those that have never seen a winged 410 race at this track, it's usually the same; really good tight racing on a well prepared surface with a late pass for the win. Too bad it's just enough south of the majority of teams to get a large turnout, still 22 cars made for a good main. BTW, dont overlook the older Scelzi @ Knoxville. Won the friday show last year, what do they call it World Challenge or something, just sayin' should be good
