Hi everyone, need some advice (specifically from those of you who live in or have visited PA).

I'm traveling to Reston, VA for work next week and staying over the weekend. My current plan is to visit Williams Grove on Friday night, and Lincoln on Saturday night. I'd love to go to both Lincoln and Port (as I've already been to WG in the early 2000's when I was around 12-13) but unfortunately they're both on Saturday night and Lincoln is considerably closer to Reston than Port is. Is this a good plan, or should I go to Port and eat the extra drive? Keep in mind, I've only been to WG, never been to either Lincoln or Port.

Also, what are some suggestions for food to get at the tracks? What is the best place to go to get some driver shirts (girlfriend demands I bring her home a minimum of 2 new shirts LOL)? I'll be getting a pit pass both nights and trying to get there early if possible. Any other must do items that I should check out while I'm at the tracks?

Looking forward to a good weekend of racing, and thanks for your suggestions!

Thomas

First of all...love the screen name and profile pic. Lincoln has tighter racing and depending on the schedule it will most likely be two sprint car divisions.  Port will also have two divisions and the super late models put on a great show in the slick. It's a coin flip. Definitely cool living in pa as far as racing goes.  Track food I'd give the nod to Lincoln simply for the Sensnigs meat trailer behind the main grandstand outside of turn 4. You'll see numerous people walking around carrying giant smoked Turkey legs. I advise you be one of them. You wont have a problem finding shirts at either track. Safe travels man. Have fun.

I'd say both tracks have an equally good regular Saturday night show and the 410 fields are usually pretty even between the 2. Lincoln is a great racey little 3/8's and would make the most sense geographically, since you will be heading to VA afterwards. You should defintely visit Port sometime though. The facility is topnotch and the racing is about as good as it gets for a 1/2 mile track.

Lincoln is way closer. I live in Frederick MD and Lincoln is just a hair over an hour for me to get to. Port Royal is an honest 2 1/2 hours.  So if you have to get back to Reston/Dulles for your flight back bear that in mind.

Personally because of the drive I only make it to port once or twice a year, so my vote is Lincoln. As for places to eat I’ll echo that sensing’s Behind the turn 4 stands is awesome. Pit beef sandwich is absolutely awesome along with Brickner’s cheese fries.

As for driver‘s gear you have a mix of both 410 and 358 drivers behind the front stretch stands.

The food situation at Lincoln is pushing me in that direction! Thanks for the reply!

That I dude. My initials are TMC, and I was born in 1991. Been a Sammy fan since the first time I saw that car!

I’m thinking Lincoln is the better choice for this occasion. The food situation put it over the top!

Thanks for the reply!

Lincoln has been on my list longer than Port, and it’s closer, so that’s probably my pick this time. I will definitely be making a trip to Port in the near future though!

Thanks for the reply!

Bring your own food to the Grove.

Both Lincoln and Port have much better food than the Grove...and better racing on most weeks.

Enjoy EMMR if you can get there...you can easily avoid idiots like Strawser by actually attending a race.

Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH

Damn...if I wasn't out of town you could just ride with me...I live right next to Reston.

Hot tip:  Expect an absurd amount of traffic trying to get out of VA by Leesburg on Route 15 to get to the Grove on Friday.  Like, truly ridiculous.  As in ~45min to go 5 miles.  Don't even attempt it...go past Leesburg and through Lovettsville to get across the river to join back to Route 15.  Trust me, you will thank me.

As far as Saturday if you are heading back to Reston, go to Lincoln.  Port is another 1.5 hours past Gettysburg and that 1.5 hours means 3.0 hours total getting home.  I've never left either place disappointed but that ride back from Port can be sucky.

It's not truth you speak, it's opinion that you speak. Truth, and specifically and objective truth is a fact whether people choose to believe it or not. Planets are spheres (specifically oblate spheriod) whether or not you choose to be a flat earther or not, it doesn't matter, it is fact/truth whether you believe it or not.

Speaking of a tracks prep & conditions are a matter of opinion. Just because one person thinks a track a couple of seconds slower is bad does not mean that everyone else does or that their specific way of prepping a track is better. It is a matter of opinion based on the fact that others choose to attend each week.

You may speak your opinion all you would like and are free to do so. But do not get angry if people do not have the same one as yours or find the fact that you must state it all the time annoying.

While I'm with the track coin tossers, you can't miss EMMR!

And it's on the way to Lincoln.

So, Lincoln.

Go to the Port next time. And you'll likely go out of your way a little to go back to EMMR next time too.

Joe V,

I am also traveling to Reston, be there next week and weather permitting going to WG Friday night as I’ve always wanted to make a trip there. Sounds like Friday night traffic out of Reston is tough. So is it best to go HWY 267 to 7 to 9 to 340 back to 15? Sorry for all the #’s. I’m not familiar with the area. Being from CA I’m used to traffic but would prefer not to sit in it if it’s somewhat avoidable.

Also, do you have to get to the Grove pretty early to get a decent seat? Not sure where the best seats are.

Thanks very much.

Regular weekly shows, plenty of seats

Big event (WoO!), get there early (I think you can buy reserved seats too.... WoO website or phone call to the Grove)

The earlier you leave NOVA the better.  If you don't mind paying the toll take 267 all the way to Leesburg, 7 is a wide road but but there are red lights.  Lucketts on 15 north of Leesburg can be hit or miss, same for the 15 bypass at Leesburg.  You can go west and go through Waterford if its too bad.  Be careful some of the road in that end of Loudoun county are stone.  Google maps usually is on point with the traffic.

Hey everyone, thanks for the (mostly) constructive feedback. It’s looking like I won’t make it to WG tonight, but will hit EMMR and Lincoln tomorrow. Looking forward to my experience and the food!!

Let me know if you make it to Lincoln tomorrow, and enjoy WG for me tonight!

It's pretty bad trying to go from Leesburg to Frederick...all two lane country road with red lights.

So....I'd say take 267 to 7 west to Route 9.  Make the right onto Clarke's Gap Road (661) at the gas station/BBQ joint.  That will take you into Waterford.  Take a left onto 662 and a quick right onto Milltown Road (681).  That will take you into Lovettsville, where a right onto Berlin Turnpike (287) takes you across the bridge into Brunswick.  A right on 180 after you get out of Brunswick will take you to 340 about a mile from where it merges into 15.

Sounds complicated, but check it out on Google Maps.  Either way you go, you're on a 2-lane country road but the route I gave you has virtually no lights or traffic.  Route 15 has several lights and gridlock pretty much from the Potomac back to Leesburg.  Either way, it's wine country and not to stressful...but the scenic route I gave you is usually the quicker route on a Friday too.  On the way back, just take 15 into Leesburg then 7 east to 28 south...same time and avoids the toll road.

As far as seats, the Grove doesn't get big crowds for weekly shows lately and a good chunk of them will prob be heading to Eldora like me.  :-)

Plenty of good seats.  Highly recommend going into the infield and standing at the entry to turn 3 for hot laps.  I usually sit towards turn 1 about 3-4 rows from the top and you can see everything from there pretty well.  A trip to the Grove isn't complete without at least 1 trip to Beer Hill and one crossing of the bridge lol.

Hope this helps!

Im confused(happens alot) about Mr Negative 26.  So unless a track is wide open it isnt good?  Most heavy tracks have very little passing.  Tracks that slick off, but have a cushion, put on the best shows.  The best drivers can drive on a slick track as well as heavy.  Just my opinion tho.  I never pay attention to the times...I dont give a s$$t what a clock says, a good race is a good race.
