More than likely, next year at this time we'll be talking about another 20 win season and WoO title for Schatz but, if there is a team poised to catch lightning in a bottle, this one could be it. They have good stuff and the team has several seasons on tour so they're no rookies. Gravel is one of the top 5 drivers in the sport and he's in his prime. If you read between the lines of the press releases from both David and CJB, it seems as though some personal issues played a factor in the split so he may have a bit of a fire under his ass next season. It goes without saying that after losing Jason, the 41 team is hell bent on bringing home Jason's dream of winning a WoO championship so both the driver and team have a lot of inspiration going. The JJR team is like a big family. If they click with David, they may just shock the world.

I want to start by saying that I am a huge Gravel fan. I heard rumblings from inside the 5 team as early as Nationals that this split was coming. I think David and the 41 team may be a great combination. In my opinion they will start off hot but struggle as the season goes. I don't think people realize how much Jason Johnson did to build this into a top tier team. They will be starting the season with what he had already built but they are in some senses a rookie team after that. I know they have some experience on the road but Jason did so much more than people realize. I hope I am wrong and they are great all year. But I believe that in 2019 we will see how professional Jason really was.

I agree with you on all points. I have heard that some things really came to a head between B Jackson and crew at Grand Forks and seemingly the production really fell off following that. That may be what is behind Travels Dads tweet as mentioned previously.  I too am a Gravel fan and I think this combo has serious potential. I don't think that a title contention comes this year but I do expect a 2-4 place in points and 5-10 wins. I don't necessarily think they will struggle, but that depends on what the definition of struggling is. The key is for them to qualify well, which has been the key to his struggles this year it seems. If they consistently make the dash, they will succeed and build for a run at the title the following season. jmo

I am happy for David thinking that the 41 will have a great future if David and Phil can gell together .. I also think that the 41ride was Carson s if he wasn’t t all ready committed to the 2 .. In a interview at the Nationals Bobbie even said the plan is if Phil stays with me we are going to continue and move forward with Jason’s dream find us sponsors and find us a driver which I think we may have all ready then again he MIGHT all ready have other obligations I take that as Carson going to the 2 clear back at the NATIONALS was all ready in play ... Although he is getting too old to make the pavement transition I wouldn't rule it out completely.

Anyone who thought F1 was a remote possibility is a fool. The best American drivers in any form of racing aren't being given a chance in F1, let alone a 27-year-old dirt racer.

Very true. Gravel is gonna win a title. Most likely multiple titles. It's just a matter of when. I'd love nothing more than to see him pull it off while with the JJR team. How cool would that be?
