No doubt. Only thing missing is a chicane on the back chute and maybe some moguls.

The 2 most odd shaped tracks I've seen are Shady Bowl & kil kare. Both of these are pavement and are listed as ovals but I'm more inclined to call them road courses. I know shady Bowl hosted at least one ASCOC pavement race around 1990 and kil Kare may have had a sprint show or two.

From the ground,  the track in Pecatonica IL always reminded me of Indy,  from the Google shot not so much.

El Paso County Fairgrounds track in Calhan Colorado is a D shaped track with the only straight on the frontstretch.

That track reminds me of Spindale Speedway in the DTR 2 game.

Speedbump---I live only 30 miles from that track and never have attended a race there.  I've been to a tractor pull or two there, but never a race.  Do they ever have races there anymore?

I don't think so.   When Keith Simmons bought Farley IA and ran West Liberty and Dubuque,  he had a few late model shows but never could quite make it work.   I think there was an effort to revive it (Jon Rogers spearheaded I htink) when Freeport closed but I don't think anything ever became of it.

Frankly,  I think it is too narrow for anything but midgets

Two from the past. Flemington and Langhorne. Flemington was a square shaped track. I actually went there once or twice when I was a kid.

Langhorne, of course, was long gone by the time I was born, but it was a giant circle. "The Big Left Turn." There's plenty of old footage to be watched on YouTube.

Any chatter on what is going to become of Farley next year?

Also, I know Jon quite well.  Where you from?

I worked for Al Freiden and then Keith Simmons at Farley/West Liberty/Dubuque from 1992-2005, but moved to Colorado and have been pretty much out of the loop since 2007.     I grew up in East Dubuque.

Speculation for Farley 2019 is either specials only or soon to be an apartment complex, depending on who is offering their opinion.

Very very very strange track at sfcr  corner 1 tight back the other way corner 2 banking ramps up wall juts out abruptly back stretch not straight sweeps out uphill going into 3 then turn 4 wall and fronstretch wall come in quickly pinching you off downhill a little to flagstand. Big berm on inside of corners. Worst track I've ever spectated or raced on and I've seen alot. Needs bulldozed and start over

I went there once & didn't realize it was D shaped (duh....) I was pretty underwhelmed (NSL race a few years ago) I sat next to a local who grew up going there, who was giving me a whole lecture about track prep & what they were doing wrong, but he lost me.

The good part was next day, taking the lil St. Genevieve Ferry across the Mighty Mississippi for POWRI midgets at tiny, racy Belle Claire track in illinois.... that was FUN!

Been there twice, terrible racing. I was blaming it on super dry Colorado soil or lack of track prep knowhow.... who knows?

If I were starting from scratch, I'd build a triangle shaped track. Stay with me- I'm sober and I'm serious. Imagine the shape of the rack that you use to rack up pool balls- 3 equal length legs and 3 equal angle corners. Take a typical 3/8 mile track to start, then add an extra set of corners and an extra straightaway. As a bonus, put a different banking on each of the 3 corners.

I think you'd have a lightning quick, racy track without the extreme speeds of a half-miler. Because each set of corners goes through 120 degrees instead of 180, the cars would zip through the corners quicker. The view from the stands would be interesting as well. I like to sit high above the #4 corner because I like to watch how sprint cars slide through the corners. With a triangle shaped track, I'd have pretty much the same view of the (now) 5&6 corners as well as the 1&2 corners. 3&4 corners would provide a whole new experience, as would the cars going kind of away from me on one strait and coming kind of at me on the other.

Interesting idea, I'd go check it out if it existed, but wouldn't RECOMMEND it.... ;)

New Egypt in NJ (You really need to see that from above to get an appreciation of how strange it is on Google Earth) and a second vote for Bubba/Ocala.

Some of the NY tracks too: Fonda, Brewerton and Weedsport are all strange....and if you want a true paperclip forget WG and look at Lebanon Valley.

I've been there twice too & it was total follow the leader, which is a shame, cause its a very pretty drive from my Mom's in Connecticut (Olde New England, lakes & forest...) Locals told me its usually like that, cause its mostly a track for modifieds, not much banking

They have a drag strip too......

I went for 305s one year & ASCS 360s another time. Both were sucky races, but i liked the 360s cause Swindelll was there (he won, EASILY!)

Only real passing was in the "Hornets" race, a girl won on the last turn & straight, banging doors all the way.... pretty exciting & she was absolutely THRILLED. Only time I've ever seen a woman win....

I usually like micro sprints, but they sucked too...

Facilities are pretty nice, tho....

Egras is talking about the Pecatonica IL track,  not El Paso County.     The latter is still the only place I have seen the water truck come out in the middle of a race under yellow.    I haven't been there in a few years either.

I spent a lot of time at Farley and Dubuque back when I was a late model guy----pretty much from the range you were working there--about 1992-2000 or so.  Then I found a passion for 410's and haven't had near the same enthusiasm for them.

Too bad about Farley.  I thought when Roger Simons (and 2 others I'm told?) bought the track, there would be a turn around.  Some new blood in the game.  A WoO race back on the schedule.  Back in the 90's you had to get there early on the Saturday night of the Yankee to get a seat!!!  The last couple of times I went to that event, you could sit wherever you wanted.  I was shocked at the lack of fan support.  I've said it before and I'll say it again-----too many club sports in our area taking our family's weekends away all summer.  No time for anyone to attend a race.

Gympie speedway in Queensland, Aus has to have the most unique dirt layout in the world. Although they don't run sprintcars.

I'd post a photo here but I dunno how, their Facebook cover photo is the best angle.
