"He's the cleanest driver in the world, he's also the best driver in the world."
-Lynton Jeffrey literally ten minutes following the crash.

Yup....I might add that Jeffrey is also one of the all around coolest dudes out there!
On a separate note, noting your screen name, as a lifelong Cubs fan myself...Go Cubs!

Schatz is the cleanest racer period. 99% of sprint car drivers will say the same and the other 1% aren’t very smart. The deal with Lynton was an unintentional mistake by schatz that RARELY happens.
Back to Brown. Maybe not on this thread, but every year everyone says “this is the year for Brian Brown. Look how good he’s been at Knoxville.” And it doesn’t happen. Now it may very well happen this year, and if it does, great. But I lean towards no. He should be great at the weekly Knoxville shows. He’s got 10 times more money behind him that every car there with the exception of Kerry Madsen. I think he wants it so bad that he continues to over drive his car, and we all know when you make a little mistake, the 15 car is waiting for that mistake and beats you. Don’t get me wrong, Schatz will beat you—But a lot of times, you beat yourself, and schatz is there ready to take advantage. It is my opinion that the 6 cars with the best chance of winning would be: schatz, gravel, Larson, brown, sweet, and tasker Phillips.

I know.
I just thought it was ironic that in a thread about Knoxville someone mentions how "dirty" the guys race each other and it gets brought up how "clean" Donny races when it was just a short couple weeks earlier that he destroyed someone elses car at.............. Knoxville.
As for Donny winning the Nationals after coming out of the B. Yes no one else has ever done it but all of the previous runs through the alphabet didn't have the luxury of a 50 lap race with a fuel/tire stop midway through. Give that luxury to Doug Wolfgang, Jeff Swindell and Danny Lasoski and it likely have been won from the D once and B three times already.
Also, with the current Friday night format, you'd need Donny to blow up during qualifying on two nights to keep him from starting within striking distance on Saturday night.
|
I have similar thoughts. Wolfgang came fron the C (started 11th) in '88, and the D (started 6th) in '90, and both years he finished 5th in what at the time was a 30 lap Nationals. So nobody knows what might have been, of course. In 2013 Donny started 4th in the B. The planned caution during the A came at lap 24, Donny restarted 5th on lap 25, and took the lead away from Brown on lap 41.

I agree with your statement about having to lose one before you win one. Schatz ran runner up how many times before he finally broke through.
As far as all the boos for #15, I'd like to know how many of those folks actually dislike Donny and how many just really want to see some new blood atop the podium (there is a difference). I'm not a Schatz fan, but I do admire his work. You can't call yourself a sprintcar fan and not appreciate what he's done. That being said, every single year I cheer against him only because I love upsets. In almost all sports an upset just makes for a better story, a more humble victor, uplifting experience, etc. I'd like to see some middle of the road weekend warrior shock the world and win it all.

You got it. As a 76er fan, I hated Larry Bird until the day he retired. Then i loved him. If you love hoops, gotta love Larry Bird! :)

When you're one of the best at Knoxville I think you always have a chance and I'm optimistic that someone outside of your 6 can still pull it off. How many had Jason on their dark horse list a couple of years ago?
Donnie is just so good, Ayrton good. He's soooo good to see whats ahead of him that he sees where a drivers going to be at the next lap.
I'd really be curious as to who spins their tires more and who's faster, with less rotation. I think the only way to show this is to set up cameras to count how many tire rotations from point A to B, and compare lap times.

Brown has been on fire since racing in PA last September, just slaughtering the weakly competition at Knoxville. Racing with the big boys of Posse land has really enabled him to take his game to the next level. This could be his year!

Game to the next level? He ran second at the Nationals to Donny three times......I think he was at a hell of a level long before he ever went to PA! The Knoxville group isn't as strong now as it was in 2015-2017.

How the hell did the Posse get brought into this thread about Brian Brown!? I agree with Blazer, Brown was on another level before he ventured to PA.
lets end the debate once and for all between the Knoxville Mafia and the Pennsylvania Posse, some promoters dream. Posse, bring a minimum of 12 of your best drivers that run weekly out east to Knoxville for two weeks of shows against Knoxville regulars. You have to be a weekly regular, no invaders allowed either side. 10 grand to win. Then Knoxville regulars bring a minimum of 12 regulars out to Posse land, pick a track out there for the same number of events, again at $10 grand a pop with nice payout throughout. Four races, two at each location, and a $25 grand payout to the overall points champ. Kinda like the Morgan Cup deal. Then whomever has the bragging rights for a year and the other side has to eat crow for a year. I know I. In fantasy land, but it sounds fun. Btw, no World of Outlaws or All Star invaders allowed. No sanctions.
Just having some fun as an insufferable pot stirrer.

The one thing that would give the Posse the edge in your proposal is track selection. Willaims Grove is tough on everybody that doesn't cut their teeth on it. The only exception has been the WoO drivers. Over the years the WoO have beat the Posse 2-1. But it's more difficult today. Lincoln or Port Royal would be more fair. ;)

I would be in agreement with ya on that one! I was just funning about, thinking out loud as they say. But it might be a bit fun. I think you would get a good turnout and even fuel the rivalry more, which may be a good thing for the sport. But doggone dollars, logistics and all that jazz would probably get in the way. Lol.

Over my head.....you wish. It's been my experience that with human nature, or human behavior, even statements meant to be humorous are often times driven by an underlying thought........like say wishful thinking. ;)
