LOL, we hear this every year. It was Saldana, Meyers, then Pittman, then Sweet, then Stewart, now Gravel. If David Gravel knew how to conserve equipment and not beat the living daylights out of it every night, he might start actually finishing in the top 5 on a somewhat regular basis and stay within 200 freakin points the CHAMP. Until then, he's just another guy that had some wins one year. Schatz will win yet another title again next year.

Chevy block? Chevy heads? Both manufactured by Chevy?

Chevy heads manufactured by Chevy haven't been used on sprint cars (410's) since the very early 80's or possibly the late 70's.  When my dad started building Sammy's engines in 1983 they were -8 heads made by Brodix.  Based off of a Chevy design naturally but with modifications done to them that Chevy heads didn't have.

I know a few guys used Chevy aluminum blocks that you could order straight out of the catalog but you had to do quite a bit more prepping to them than a Donovan or Brodix block.  The Donovan and Brodix blocks have more material in critical areas for strength that the Chevrolet didn't.

I guess in short although these parts are not specifically manufactured by Chevy, they are based off of the popular Chevy design.

  Hope this helps.

Thats the point, they are based off the "worldly" popular Chevy small block engine, of which for stock classes and mods, etc, the supply will never run out as they are still used in Chevy and GMC pickups and a few cars. The junk yards are full of them, sitting in cars/trucks that were totaled out in an accident, but the engine is ok.   This engine is the basis for the engine used almost across the board in dirt racing, of course with stronger parts because GM only planned on these engines running 100,000 miles plus at a reasonable speed, not 8000 RPM for a half hour every night at races.  Thats where titanium, carbon fiber, aluminum, etc is absolutelly needed to make these engines stay together.

It does, thanks, and reaffirms what I've said for many years. Engines today are knock offs. They aren't Chevys and they won't be Fords. Sprint car engines are a specialty engine and who ever develops them simply slaps the name on them according to who the sponsors are, or where a certain source of money comes from. Too bad the auto manufacturers are no longer directly involved in sprint car racing and that the WoO/WRG won't mandate a crate motor spec chart. Might make things more interesting.

It’s really not so much that Gravel has had that many equipment failures, Knoxville was high profile but had no impact on the points. It’s reaally more about being consistently fast. The biggest disparity between Schatz and Gravel is in top 5s.

Schatz has 59 to Gravels 40.

For top 10s it’s nuch closer, Schatz 67 to Gravel 63.

That means Gravel has been in that mediocre 6-10 bucket 23 times to Schatz only 8 times.

That also means that when Gravel has the car to win, he does a lot. 16 wins out of 40 top 5s indicates when he’s close, he’ll find a way.

Or did pittman take himself out by hitting a lapped car? Not arguing but have read both sides. Who was there to see who hit who?

No matter.....goes back to what I've been saying for quite a while.......too many of the WoO drivers make too damn many mistakes on the track. Sure as hell makes it easier for Schatz and in particular Gravel to chalk up the numbers. Donny would have the numbers anyway, but a few gifts now and then sure doesn't hurt. Pittman, Stewart, Johnson and Sweet are all at times their own worst enemy.

Its more like Pittman ran over the lapped car and spun and took himself out !

The dirt track engine people call a Chevy, certainly is not the same engine that Chevy put in their cars and trucks, just very very  similar in design to the small block Chevy that has been put in 125 million+ vehicles.  But with stronger internal parts to withstand the high RPMs and high heat normal in short dirt track racing.  The Ford engine, when it gets here, if it gets here,  will have absolutely nothing in common with any Ford engine put in a Ford vehicle. A new engine from the ground up.  Yes it does have pistons like all the Ford engines so if you want to say that makes it a Ford, so be it.   And yes, it is a little goofy that Ford Performance, that's Ford Motor Company, is the sponsor of the Shaver Chevy in Schatz's #15.  Schatz, he's here to stay.  not going anyplace unless it's the motor's fault.

Doubt it.  He's already 24 I think and in today's NASCAR for a developmental driver...that is ancient.  They want teenagers that they bring up through their program.   Larson is an exception and he still started much younger than Gravel.
