Ok so just found out the $5,000 the World of Outlaws said they would offer to the the highest average finish of the 2 nights of Gold Cup, was apparently "was a mistake by an inexperienced pr kid. There never was a 5000 bonus, he got confused with another race, his name was Sam Martin"...hmmm

I generally oppose lawsuits when it comes to racing, but in this case, I hope he takes them to court. That is a lame excuse. Furthermore, even if it is the case, the WoO should honor it. It was not Andy Forsberg's mistake.

Let me get this straight.
The WoO PR guy releases a statement saying the WoO would award $5,000.00 to the highest in points for the two nights...but....they "didn't mean to say that. Is that what they said...or didn't say?
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...well, you know the rest of "the story."

i have heard USAC pull the "you have to be a member" trick on an award that should have gone to a local.
i think it was golobic.
it is a shame but it just goes to show you need to validate and clarify everything with the promoter or association.
to indy and beyond!!

Forsberg should call a lawyer (he may only get 1/2 the $5000 as the lawyer will get 1/2). He has a pretty open and shut case based on the WoO OWN press release.
To my knowledge, they never released a new one stating that the bonus was stated in error (which if they had done, they'd be free and clear), therefore they are on the hook for the $$$ (even if it takes the courts to make them pay).
I feel bad for Forsberg and his team, but at the same time I hate the idea of these "bonuses" to entice drivers/teams to come to a race. Why not just raise the purses by that bonus amount instead and make the races worth more $$ for EVERY finishing position?

Forsberg has a knack for winning these out of the ordinary sprint car racing deals. Too bad only Prentice pays up when he wins them.

Good point - I actually think the current max for small claims court in CA is $15,000.

Golobic's deal was he was the highest finishing 360 at a USCA/CRA show. He was to get $200. The Lance Jennings press release for the race did mention you had to be a member, but it was never mentioned anywhere else. So he
never did get paided and even thought USAC was right its seemed like a ripoff.

Lol, I love the rabblerousers on this board. All the usual suspects (i.e. WOO haters) have had their say.
Other than the press release, was this bonus stated by the WoO? If so, I'd say he may have a case, if not, I doubt it. Then again, it is California.

My feeling on that one is that the bonus was a nice way to entice some racers who might not have otherwise been there to show up. Looking at it from a promoters perspective if USAC is more interested in selling memberships than helping my back gate or putting more butts in the seats then why are they there? If offering the bonus puts a few more cars through the gate or butts in the seats then it's a good idea but screwing people by making them buy a membership they may only use once is bullshit. Especially at a place like Watsonville where completely wingless shows are not the norm so if you aren't going to make the bonus available to everyone who competes don't bother offering it at all.

You had to figure it was to entice the locals since Watsonville is a 360 track & and all the USAC regulars
ran 410's. They never pointed out you had to be a member at the driver's meeting.
