Sammy has accomplished a lot of things Kyle never will too ! Sammy can be difficult to deal with but that doesn't diminish what he has done on dirt, you are comparing apples to carrots . there are Nascar fans who have never heard of Steve Kinser does that diminish what he has done in his racing career ? I am a Larson fan but to take away from a dirt track living legend because of what another guy has done in a stock car makes no damn since .

Let me see here, I said big wins:

Knoxville nationals win 1-0

Three Kings Royal wins 3-0

Two Williams Grove National Open wins 2-0

Gold Cup?  Sammy won it before Larson was born, but Kyle does have 2. 1-2

Lernerville Silver Cups?  3-0

Chilli Bowl?  4-0

Championships:

Sammy 3 Woo 3-0

So Mr. Larson has a K&N east championship?  Good for him.  He also did this with support from the EGR cup team while he was running in a feeder division.

I'm not taking anything away from the kid, but to say he has surpassed Sammy whether you like him or not is just mind boggling to me.

Belleville nationals????  Lets talk about the top tier of dirt racing please.   Sammy (and all the other big name Sprint drivers) were busy winning big money races in Sprints.  You will never see a Wolfgang, Swindell, Schatz, or Kinser winning that race.  Because they are out winning bigger races.  Sorry to be blunt but that's the truth

I'm really impressed that you know so much about Sammy's career stats.    But if you wanna start throwing out championships and Nationals wins, then all that should remind Swindell fans is that he's not in Kinser's league either.   Or Schatz for that matter...

Kunz needs to let Larson fight his own battles. I hope Kyle doesn't get a big head and personality of others on top.

Didn't say he was in Schatz's or Kinser's league did we?

How about we all agree that Kyle Larson is about as talented a young driver as there is currently? Regardless of how you may feel about him personally, we can all pretty much agree, the young man has an enormous amount of talent. And, he is building one helluva resume. I'd like to make notation here, however, that it does NOT (yet) include a Golden Driller from the Chili Bowl. One day maybe, but not yet.

Now, Sammy is well....he is Sammy. LIke him or not, he is arguably THE MOST TALENTED guy to ever sit in a sprint car. Not JUST because of his driving talent, but because of his ability to set up and tune the car, read the track, identify the purpose and understand the function of EVERY PART of a sprint car, and offer unrivaled feedback to various manufacturers to help develop better products....from tires to tailtanks.

Since Kyle is 22-ish (not exactly sure of his birthday) Let's take a look at Sammy in his early to mid 20s.....By the time Sammy was 21 years old, he had amassed over 125 victories on dirt tracks in the south. In 1977, At age 22, he won 30 sprint car races in 51 starts. Then he won back to back World of Outlaws championships in 1980 and 81. I'd also like to point out, while I'm not taking anything away from the current roster of "Outlaw" drivers, but in 80/81, we were seeing drivers such as Kinser, Wolfgang, Ferkel, Hewitt, and a whole host of others with a 'boat load' of talent at virtually every event. And everyone was pissed off at the kid that was spanking the 'elders' of the dirt track world...maybe it's just time for history to repeat itself.......but what do I know?

Yawn! That is such a boring old line of bullshit...

I hate Sammy because he is successful.

Thats it. You called me out. It isn't the fact that he has continually demonstrated himself to be an absolute arrogant jerk on innumerable occasions or that he has ZERO respect for safety of fellow racers. Nope couldn't be that at all. It's all because he is successful that's why. It's not because he whines like a little spoiled bitch when he doesn't get his way. It's not because he thinks he can dish out shit and then thinks it unnacceptable for anyone else to dish it back. Nope its his success. Which is weird cause I have the utmost respect for some of the - best all time - drivers the sport has known and yet I don't hold any contempt for their success on the track or in life.

Continue believing whatever fantasty makes you happy pal. The guy you love just happens to be a repeat offending douche. He could've been the most accomplished racer ever and I would still find his behavior abhorent. Success doesn't give anyone a free pass to be an arrogant asshole.

Amen!

Sammy was a great sprint car driver but the fact that he has a lot of winged sprint car wins in part because he wasn't successful when he was given the chance to move up into the big leagues. Kyle could have stayed in sprint cars and won hundreds of races to but why would he. He has the talent to make it where the money is. I think some people are discounting all that Larson accomplished on dirt all bfore he was old enough to drink, WOO wins, USAC wins, wins in every type of car he strapped into, winning the 3 crowns in his first visit to Eldora. He was 1 of the best sprint car drivers in the country at age 20 before moving on.

You also have to look at how the times have changed. In Sammy's heyday the cars were so unequal, it was ridiculous. You had about 3 top WOO cars racing against cars that would be in a lower division nowadays. It's much harder to dominate the sport now with all the cars being virtually equal.

Anyone that's ever met Kyle knows that he is a nice, respectful young man. Sammy's repuatation speaks for istelf. Now Kyle is supposed to show respect for this bumper car racing jerk jsut because he is old? Sammy never showed any respect for his fellow racers.

I believe this is a open wheel message board and the point is sammy has accomplished a lot more than Larson in open wheel racing. Will larson accomplish much in nascar? Remains to be seen a couple rookie of the year awards that all you have to do is show up and finish last you can usually win that. In open wheel you can't compair the two

Enough of all this BS! Larson needs someone to change his diaper and Sammy should have punched him in the nose and got it over with! Can't compare these guys careers either, one began 40 years ago in a rough and tumble era, the other one began in the buy a ride cutie boy era. Larson MAY succeed on assfault but he will never nor would've ever touched Sammy's record on dirt.

Agreed - I really like Larson, but he was just in a bad mood at the Chili Bowl because he kept spinning out by himself with no one touching him

It really looked bad in my opinion the way he was handling himself in Tulsa... rich young and spoiled

I feel like the only thing missing from some of these posts is a "Get off my lawn, you punks!" comment.
