Wow, allot of pat me on the back,I don't do or have I ever done drugs people posting on this topic. As I recall I was telling a friend Tyler Walker that some of us are not fair weather friends , and are here to help in any way posible. I am one that really do not care what Rogue-9, crewchief 47, think and any other negitive selfrighteous person has to say. I try to live to relate to others and not compare. In some cases like this one, we really don't need your opinion if you have not had a problem, because you wouldnt know the truth if it hits you in the face. You people probably tell a pregnant woman how it feels to have a baby too, suprise you need to have one first. What I composed to Tyler deals with life and death a friend can fall into if they think they are alone and no one else cares. Vent your differences withTyler like a man don't hide behind your net name. My name is David E.Liggins and I'm usually not hard to find. I usually hang with Haud, and usually one of a few minorities of my race that attend sprint car racing. I dont hide or cut anyone down come by and say Hi sometime. As for when I post something for or to a friend that is not there for you to take away their hope, I take that very seriously. It really tickels me to read some of your none sense because I know you have never wore a jock in your life , or strapped your butts behind 800 horses, and you probably still play like you are a real race driver when you head home after a race. See you at Sharon, or Eldora come by the 35 car, or the 3x and introduce yourself .

I wasn't trying to put Tyler or you down, I just think that some people use the word disease as an excuse. Also, when I read it cost you a career in the NFL, it made me picture a Marcus Vick or a Terrel Owens. So, I will apologize for any offense taken. My name is Chris Pelow, and I live in upstate NY.

Rogue, if law is what you want to pursue ( I have three attorneys in my family) you had better learn that you do not start a sentance with 'and' which you've done a couple of times Grammar and the Kings English will go a long way in that career. Some of the wrath you incurred was back in the NST debate days, you will need a much better memory to succeed in that profession, believe me. Take It Easy...

um, I wasn't even on hoseheads yet for the nst debates, I didn't even get a screenname until this january. So, I think you have the screwy memory. I was never in an nst debate, nor did I really care about the nst vs outlaws issue in the first place. I don't believe you even pay attention to what goes on in these forums, you just like to talk s*** don't you.

I would suggest that one can be both empathetic, caring, concerned, and supportive of the person who has an addiction problem and also believe those individuals are still accountable for their actions and the consequenses that result.
Empathy or accountability. It does not have to be one or the other. It can be both.

True, but to have empathy you have to have understanding, something that is sorely lacking with some people on this forum. Do not confuse empathy with sympathy.

I made a broad statement, and the key word was some, and it was plain that I was referring to empathy, not accountability, but take it where ever you want.

After reading all these posts I have to say that many of you.... must come to beleive that only a power greater than yourself can restore you to sanity.

Accountability is what I believe most people to be arguing at this point. Every person here has an opinion as to whether or not it's a disease or not. The fact is, he failed a test and he's responsible for it. He'll be under watchful (and cynical) eyes for the rest of his career. Should anyone feel sorry for him? Hell no, he made the choices to do what he does....disease or not, addiction or not, he started the process in being addicted to a substance. It's all I got to say.

Kenny - I post infrequently and try to choose my words carefully when I do because of how easily things are misinterpreted on message boards.
Empathy was my word... and I'm not confused between empathy or sympathy. I was not trying to be sarcastic or antagonistic with my reply. Apologies if it came across as such.
Tim

Oh no, I did mean some. I'm sorry for not being clearer, it was not directed at your post but at the people that lack what you described in the first sentence of it. "I would suggest that one can be both empathetic, caring, concerned, and supportive of the person who has an addiction problem". I agree totally with that statement! You can be sympathetic without knowledge, but to have empathy, you have to have some understanding or insight to the problem, whatever it might be. I think you know that. You can not help anyone with sympathy, but if you have insight plus knowledge, you can.
As far as being responsible and having consequences, most people with substance abuse problems( like Al Jr ) have many consequences before they get out of denial and take the responsibility to get help and if they don't, well friends of Bill know what the big three consequences are.
I'm sorry we get crossed up Tim, I type with one finger and maybe it was tired. LOL

And for those who don't know the big three consequences. They are:
JAILS, INSTITUTIONS AND DEATH.

If any one of you or even Tyler want to get on the road to recovery it starts right here:
We addmitted we were powerless over alcohol (or durg of choice) and that our lives had become unmanageable.
Bill W. you know.
