My kids and I were out there at 6:00 pm this evening when the final hit made the last bricks fall. The old girl is now no more than a pile of rubble. There were approx 100 people out there when the final hit came, and the silence was deafening with all eyes on the final bricks to come down. Sad, Sad day for Oklahoma City race fans. The guy that was driving the water truck had a pile of bricks piled up by the fence, and was handing them over the fence to anybody that asked for one.

Water truck dude was really cool, he was taking a chance on getting in trouble probably.

David & whoevr else is interested, Gil White was taking video from the west side, we were standing on the edge of the fenceline on those planters even with where the ticket windows were (I THINK) .

He said he was posting it on Face book, I don't know if it's on there yet or not.

I have a question, why can't the racers auction be held somewhere else?

Good point Mom, It should find a new location outside of the OKC City limits.

Greg has already signed the lease for 2011 and he informs they work with him very well. And yes, Greg is a second generation racer so he understands us.

It never really sank into me how much damage the devil and his minions can do till you see the hopes and dreams of little kids in one star wars t-shirt hanging on a fence I bet that not even the devil himself can see that shirt and not get teary eyed I hope that the mayor sees that kids shirt maybe then he will realize how much he screwed up by tearing our race track down that's if he even has a sliver of a heart left

He does not care b/c he is rolling in the big bucks from Bennett.

I understand Greg has a contract, but you would think that contract was made when there was a racetrack on the grounds. I am hoping no one ever sets foot on the fairgrounds again. I am starting a facebook page to boycott the fair. And if it gets just one person not to go then that is fine with me. I was out there last night after 9 pm there were people on horses looking at the grandstands rubble. I was thinking I hope the hell they dont try to talk to me. There was a save the statefair speedway tshirt on the fence I signed it. There were a couple of other signatures. There was also a hat left. I can't even go down I-44 without getting very upset. Some say get over it, I will move on but I dont think I will ever get over it. Sorry for venting...

You will never catch me stepping on the fairgrounds again! Heartbreaking pic Tammy!

As far as the racer's auction goes, theres a few big empty buildings in Yukon that would hold the show! I guess the Yukon Chamber of Commerce would be who to get in touch with! The old Snyder's grocery store is big with a big parking lot. Its been empty for years now.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, A.M.: I couldn't bring myself to write about this last night.

Others have reported that all of the prominent features (other than the exterior fence, the pit pavement and the photography towers) of Our Speedway have been reduced to rubble.

I stood there alone at sundown . . . the first sunset in generations without the Grandstand. The first sunset of my entire life without it. And the hurt, the rage, and the emptiness consumed me.

I watched a flock of helpless pigeons swooping back and forth. They were desperately searching for their home.

And I realized that I don't really have any more insight or place to be than those confused pigeons.

By this morning, the pigeons had gone. But in the morning light, the vast rubble pile looked even more bleak and lifeless. Loading semi-trailer loads of debris was the order of the day.

And for some reason I thought about an old Pretenders song, "My City is Gone" (kids who grew up in the rap generation might recognize this tune as Rush Limbaugh's opening theme) Chrissie Hynde wrote it about how she felt when the Ohio of her youth had been "paved over."

And with apologies to Ms. Hynde, I've rewritten it:

MY SPEEDWAY IS GONE (by Hynde and Boycott)

I went back to OK City

But my Speedway was gone

There was no Grandstand

There’s no racin’ going on

The half-mile had disappeared

All my favorite places

My Speedway had been pulled down

Reduced to parking spaces

Pew, wee, way to be, OK City

Well I went back to OKCity

But my family was gone

I stood at the pit gate

There was nobody home

I was stunned and amazed

My childhood memories

Slowly swirled past

Like the dust blowing in the breeze

Pew, wee, way to be, OK City

I went back to OK City

But my pretty track site

Had been paved down the middle

By a government that had no pride

The Fairgrounds of OK City

Had been replaced by horse stalls

And lies filled the air

From May Avenue to City Hall

Pew, wee, way to be, OK City

So true. Sadly, Mick's given whatever "heart" he has over to the "dark side."

In our little "Star Wars" drama, Clay Bennett is the evil emperor Palpatine (Darth Sideous). Mick Cornett is Darth Vader. Tim O'Toole is General Grevious. Ann Simank is Jabba the Hut.

Sign me up for the Boycott page!

If Greg's contract has as many escape clauses as the one Lanny had, he's probably already got a half-dozen ways out. Of couse all those escape clauses in Lanny's contract probably favored the greedy, egg-sucking jerks at OSF and the City (while putting it to the little guys).

Sadly, someone had stolen the Save State Fair Speedway shirt by this morning. I guess somebody wanted an autograph. Just don't try to wear it anywhere, because I've got a photo of it from yesterday!

Thats okay I have3 more of them and I bet there is alot more of them around. All we need is for everyone that has one to bring it on out and hang it up. That way if its homeless people taking them they will be getting wore all over the city as a reminder to all that see them

What we need are some new T-shirts along the lines of "Remember Fairgrounds Speedway" and "Boycott the Oklahoma State Fair." I'd buy some. Anybody with me?

I think a clearer picture, like the ones that use to grace one of the years programs back in the 80's when programs were programs, would look good on the front or back. If it didn't cost an arm and a leg to do, maybe do the photo copy of what Mike Howard took and posted above and put "Rememmber Fairgrounds Speedway." That would be on the front. On the back put "Boycott Oklahoma State Fairgrounds" with however it is you want. It the money went back to the people who done the shirts, maybe it wouldn't cost as much.

Just as long as the money sold on the t-shirts don't go to Save Fair Speedway or any other personal use.

The save our speedway shirt appeared to be taken down by Midwest I was just up there and the zip ties were ripped cut and pretty much still shiny not like they were twisted to be taken off, I am about to put a new shirt up that will have a sharpie on the collar for anyone and everyone to sign if they would like. Let's see if they are dumb enough to take down another shirt, well even dumber than they already are
