I know a couple local small companies that got over a $1,000,000. I don't see a difference between a racing based company , or a small manufacturing company. They all had to keep employees working.

Agreed

They are NOT a business.  They have employees that should be paid through there sponsors NOT taxpayer money.  No way no how should that EVER - EVER - EVER happen!  Over 30 trillion in dept and we the people are sponsoring race cars.  I DON'T think so.  Our country is SO screwed up!   Our leadership can't even figure out what is needs and what is wants.  I want to go to the races and enjoy them - Entertainment.  I need a house to live in and food to eat.  One we can do without....the other we can't.

Your employer shouldn't have to be forced to pay your wages. Your pay should come out of a tip jar on the counter.

A couple points of clarification...

PPP "loans" ended up being grants, as the loans were forgiven and didn't have to be paid back.  Yes, professional race teams indeed are a business.  That said, I'd love to know what sprint car team needs nearly $70k in "loans" to cover two months of "payroll". because I'm sure most people would be beating feet to work on that crew.  And I don't even have that much of a problem with that...go get your free government cheese if it's available.

But don't be taking my tax dollars as a charity contribution to your race team with one hand while constantly peeing and moaning all over social media about how taxes are too high with the other hand.  I'm not much on hypocrites.

Go ahead and search "racing" on the PPP tracking site.  It was quite a welfare program for our sport for sure.

Examples:

Kasey Kahne Racing; $112,224

Tony Stewart Racing:  $109,800

Mark Richards Racing (Rocket Chassis Late Models): $232,149

WIlliams Grove, Inc: $63,213

Sel-Wil (Lincoln PA Speedway): $80,478

And of course everyone's favorite punching bag World Racing Group:  $1,712,000

Joe V, excellent job. See what a little research can do for you if you really want to know.  Be amazed people, the government puts it out there for anyone to take advantage of it. You just have to know how to do it. Do I agree with it, NO, as most of you do not.  But it's available.

True dat.   When you look also the major majority of the money went to salaries for those Racing Businesses (yes, businesses) that were shut down due to the COVID (should have/shouldn't have entire different arguement, but the FACT is they were).   Those folks are not your weekend warrior race  teams where they have 1 crew guy who checks the air in the tires and wipes mud off for pit pass money, they have many employees and employees to keep in paychecks.

My employer and I have a great relationship.  They respect me and I respect them.  However, NO WAY - NO HOW should race teams get the ppp loan.  Sorry, I love racing but they should not be subsidezed with taxpayer money.  NEVER should this happen.  I don't care how many people work for that race team....get the MONEY from the SPONSORS....if they say no then do without.......

I was gonna disagree with Strawser as usual, cause this money is a loan, gets paid back, not "ripping off taxpayers" at all....

Until I saw this: "If companies follow spending guidelines such as salaries, benefits mortage interest, rent and utilities then the loan is mostly forgivable."

So now I kind of agree with him but for a different reason. Of course race teams are a business, & its good to keep people employed. But $17 million to Childress, Ganassi & Roush??? Just think of how many lives would be bettered if they used this $$$ to pay rent for homeless people this winter....

No, a lot of these loans will not be paid back.  As long as you fall into the the guidelines the federal government has set.

A lot of actual businesses actually will NEVER have to pay back these loans.

Race teams employ people. who have mortgages etc. they were entitled to ppp loans as much as Marjorie Taylor Greene, Paul Pelosi and Tom Brady were. you're entitled to an opinion but not a dumb one

They aren't a business that is a need.  Business and racing shouldn't even be in the same sentence.  They are a want.  So they should get 0 that is 0 dollars of taxpayer money.

This is why I can't stand all the liars in Washington!

Not dumb....just common sense.  That is also what is missing in the USA.  No one has any common sense anymore.

The Feds really screwed this up.  They didn't vet the companies that applied for the PPP loans.  The taxpayers get screwed again.  What else is new.  That always happens!

No one is entitled.  That is another problem we have the entilted generation.

Get it the old fashion way - EARN IT!

You never cease to amaze me with your lack of intelligence.  I don't care what a business does, whether it's entertainment or whatever, THEY ARE A BUSINESS.  The government basically shut the race teams down for a year by saying no large gathering events at the very least they cost them the chance at big money races.  I have no doubt there was PPP loan fraud.  However race teams getting the money vs businesses who didn't have a need for the money, and you're upset about race teams?  If you feel they're not a business then how do you feel about them paying taxes?  If it's not a business why should they pay taxes?

Out of curiosity, by your definition are bar/restaurants or any other non-essential businesses not businesses either?

Youre lacking common sense. and you don't get to define what essential is. I love a beer as much as the next guy, but are bars essential? the list could go on. race teams have employees that needed their jobs as much as your next door neighhor. corporations and banks get bailed each time. where's your gripe with that. tax payers didn't get screwed. you literally had to pay tax to receive a PPP. im not sure this generation are anymore entitled than baby boomers who benefited from every social program They could

Strawser returned his stimmies too I bet.  I know he wouldn't have used a cent of that money for non essential race streaming.

No, I am using common sense.  The world is turned upside down. You are the one not using it.

The government told us what was an essential business.   Remember that .....I didn't think so!

Sometimes businesses have to fail and that is ok.  We shouldn't have to bail any business out EVER!
