Sprint96.... if that seat fits the boy that will be a HUGE asset to him.... MSPN...work has severely limited my ability to get away for any amount of time so I doubt if I will make up up there to shake your hand, but I can't imagine we won't run into each other at some race sometime...
An update on how awesome the racing community is... I made a post on a couple of karting msg boards asking for anybody to gather up stuff they don't use and send it.... the response in 6 hours has been amazing....without getting into infinite detail I think I can safely say we have had pledges of about 10-15 nights worth of high end kart racing oil, a decent wheel inventory, a decent gear selection, a nice clutch or 2, some hubs, bearings, misc nuts and bolts, and possibly a nice firesuit that should fit a kid his size.
Just like me, people are truly touched when they hear the story of how this young boy has stepped out and found a way to make it happen. And they all know what it takes to do this even if you already have a kart and motor.
Thanks to Hoseheads for providing a place that we could all see this story, and thanks to all the posts in support of what Tyson is trying to accomplish. I sure am anxious to read Tysons post after he gets to run his first race.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

I can't help but comment again on how cool this thread is. I just went 10 pages deep on this forum and still never found a thread with as many responses or views as this one has. Tyson's getting a lot of attention. Tyson also displays much grattitude for anybody who has helped with some parts, some cash, or some advice. He is doing a good job of keeping all of us updated on his progress. When I speak to him on the phone I have a hard time believing I am talking to a 13 year old... he sounds much more mature...
Tysons favorite driver is Brian Brown.... Brian Brown is one of the best in the biz as far as working to find potential sponsors, getting support from sponsors, supporting those sponsors, maintaining a great relationship over the years with his sponsors, getting lots of attention locally and nationally for his sponsors, sending fans to do business with them, and genertally helping them actually grow their businesses instead of just taking their money...
Does anybody else think that young Tyson here may be the next Brain Brown? Tyson hasn't been able to display whatever amount of talent he has as a driver yet, but he sure as heck reminds me of Brain Brown with how he is approaching building his team.
I have to admit, when the first post appeared on here I didn't even read it. I have got to the point that I never read any of the threads on msg boards where random people come on and start asking for somebody toi give them a ride or a shot in a sprintcar to prove themselves, or start asking for sponsors for a racecar they don't even have. It is silly for somebody to think that with zero experience they are going to find somebody to buy them an entire raceteam, or turn them loose in an established team with hundreds of thousands of dollars invested....those posts are everywhere, and they usually end up with a handfull of replies explaining how silly thier request is.
And typically, starting a thread on a message board is the maximum amount of effort most of these guys are willing to put forth.. they post their request and contact info, sit around for a couple days waiting for the phone to ring, and that's the end of it.
Once Tysons thread was marked as a hot topic and had 20 some replies that's when I got interested and went ahead and read it.
Man am I glad I did. This kid is making it happen. Yes he is getting lot's of help, but HE made that happen. He hasn't even turned a lap yet, doesn't have his kart assembled and raceready yet, but he already has hundreds...maybe thousands of fans across the country who can't wait to read about how his first night and first season as a racer goes.
Someday Tyson may be putting up numbers like Christopher Bell. He may burst onto the sprintcar scene like nobody we have ever seen. Or he may be the guy who does the most with the least, the underdog who works his butt off and becomes a fan favorite becasue he shows up week in week out with one old car on an open trailer. But regardless, one of these days we are all going to say "I knew Tyson when he was a kid....I remember how hard he worked to get his first go-kart put together.... I had a hand in helping him get started...." etc etc... and that is going to be a great feeling.

I took the time Tuesday evening to go out and see the finals at English Creek. Got a chance to meet Tyson, and his mom and dad,(and a lot of other extended family in their pit stall) What I found was a nice, energetic young man that is enthused about racing. We talked a little about how the year was going, and how his Nationals were going also . He had qualified for the dash, and drew pole position, but the kill switch malfunctioned and he was unable to start the dash. This put him starting 6th in the A main. He had run up to 3rd when the motor started smoking and with about 5 laps to go, it expired. He ran a great race, and I wish him nothing but the best in years to come. Looking forward to watching his career.
if you've never took the time to go there, I suggest you make the time. It's great entertainment and you will quite possibly be seeing the next generation of racing stars.
