This looks to be the final nail in the coffin for my all time favorite track.

As far as ever seeing racing at SD's best 3/8 track it appears we are fag fucked in Fairfax

LMAO at your last sentence.   Never heard it put that way before.

From the begining Chuck was nothing but a blowhard. Anyone who believed anything he said was a fool. The bulldozing it statement was just to scare someone into buying it. Didn't work, and just proves what a moron he is that he thought it would work. He's not smart enough to realize if nobody would buy it for 3 million then nobody is going to buy it for 6 or 9 million. I hope all those folks who thought he was a great guy and doing a lot of good for racing are happy with Chuck now. He always was a douche and always will be.

Reading through these replies got me thinking.  Did Steve Rubin ever make a public statement about buying back Husets?  He could have, I just don't remember hearing one.  The reason I ask is, was there really ever a potential sale?  I know it would seem stupid of Chuck to make it up but I don't believe anything he say and from what I remember all of the news of the sale came from him.  On the other hand if this was all made up, I would hope Steve Rubin would have put an end to this rumor if that was the case though,.

I can't wait to hear Chuck tell how he's doing everything he can to save the track but Rubin, like everyone else backed out at the last minute.

I thought there was a reply from Rubins confirming that they were going to run it.Too bad it wasnt left the way it was rundown or not than it could still be affordable.Too much baggage for a racing promoter.Rock concerts, flea markets and radio are  types of venues can be lucurative if managed correctly. The people mainly just miss the racing that want to save it.

Yes. It was reported in the Argus Leader.

Typically in business, any time someone makes a hard and fast deadline, they are bluffing; trying to pressure someone else to make a quick and/or rash decision. (Think of used car salesmen. "You better buy this right now. I've got someone on the line that will be here at 4:00 and they definately want this car!") Real, smart business people take their time and do it right. Whatever is in the works will take time. Only a fool sets artificial deadlines. Let's be patient and wait and see what happens.

Standard disclaimer: I'm just a fan. Like everyone else on this forum, I know nothing about what's going on with Husets right now. These are just my opinions.

Steve Rubin did a TV interview shortly after the announcement was made that they "came to an agreement" on the purchase of the track. He stated that basically what they agreed to was that Brennan would give Rubin (30) to (60) days to come up with the money to purchase the track, whether that be investors or whatever. Rubin stated that he "did not buy anything yet." Brennan agreed to not start demolition but IF the Rubin proposal fell thru by March 1st, Brennan would then begin demolition. Rubin stated that he was going to rename the track, Huset's Speedway, run weekly Sunday night events beginning in May and running thru September. And as usual, just like everytime Brennan passes gas, people wet their pants and thought it was a done deal. The rumors circulating around had been that Rubin did have a couple of interested parties but for various reasons those deals fell thru. Here's where it stands as of now. Nobody was interested in purchasing the track when he wanted (9.45) million for it. He then tried to hold an auction and we all know how that went down. There were (2) interested parties at the auction and another supposedly interested party going to bid on line, from Las Vegas. Go figure. Nobody was interested in opening up the bidding at (3) million and the auctioneer called an end to the auction. After the Rubin deal fell thru, it is now back up for sale for (9.45) million or you can lease it for ($75,000) per month. Sioux Falls has a population of around 185,000 people and from the vibe here it sounds like the big majority of the supporting businesses that Huset's Speedway has had over the years are done with current ownership and won't spend a dime out there as long as Brennan is involved. It's really pretty simple. Nobody is willing to spend (6.3) million, let alone (9.45) million, for a business that's really only worth about (2) million. That message has been delivered loud and clear for the last couple of years as nobody has stepped up to purchase this track. The problem is somebody's not listening. I've lived in Sioux Falls my whole life, over (60) years. My family grew up spending every Sunday night at that track. I think we've seen the last lap turned on that famous dirt track. It's sad but that's the reality we're all facing...z

I guess I'm optimistic for no apparant reason, but I think it will get worked out eventually. The way I see it, there's one man's ego behind just about all that going on. But I have to believe there are other people in the background with money invested that will push for something positive to happen. They might be investors, or bankers or others who loaned money for this (mis)adventure.

No one who has a financial stake in Husets is going to let a $2,000,000 asset just sit there until it turns to dust. No one who has a stake in it is going to entertain the fantasy that chuck can magicaly turn a $2,000,000 asset into a $9.45 million tax write-off by giving it to some un-named government entiry as a wildlife preserve. In the end, I foresee someone who has a financial stake in Husets forcing chuck to salvage what's left of his investment, take his beating and move on.

Maybe the answer is closer than we think? I see in the Argus that KISS is coming to town next week. Which member did chuck tout as being an investor?

I couldn't agree more on your take on deadlines or at least this one.  What's the purpose for it?  A week ago it was good enough but now it's not?  Is there someone waiting to buy it?

I'm with you in that I think eventually racing will happen there again but it could be 10-20 years away (hopefully much less), of coarse as long as it's not bulldozed.  Not only is this $2 million asset just sitting there not making any money but it's costing money just to sit there.  He's continued to pay taxes and I would assume a couple people to keep an eye on the place.  I would hope he's also paying to heat the buildings or plumbing could be an issue.  Obviosly he's kept the electricity on for some time as the video board has been going in the past.  Personally I'm not buying the tax write off deal, is there a shortage of prairie land in South Dakota?

My biggest fear is that by the time racing happens again at Husets, there won't be very many local race teams left.

Maybe the best thing would be if he doesnt pay the taxes. I'm sure the county would sell it off for 2 or 3 years of back taxes to anyone with a go kart in their garage and at a price many would pay.

Even though I may not know you, I
care what most of you think!

That was my thought too.  But I think it was last year someone posted a link how he was current on his taxes.  I don't remember the exact numbers but I think it was around $25,000 every six months.

If Chuck ever sells it for 9.45 million then that will be the day he meets an even bigger moron than himself.

If I won the Powerball, I would buy the closest land I could find (to Badlands), build an exact replica of Badlands Speedway, and put it up for sale for $1.

Wow Chuck, if this is such a bargain, open the thing back up and start having races. No need to share the wealth with us peasants!

Does that 86577 customers through the gates include all those Chuck gave free tickets to? Or the nights he let everyone in free?

So much profit to be made....why would anyone sell such a successful and profitable business!

Potential means it hasn't happened yet. At 9.45 million to purchase you would go more than 3 years just to get your investment back.

How many "naming rights" did Chuck sell at Badlands?

Yep, several times.   Probably best to ignore him.

I only looked thru the list once but didn't see the two new Cat Graders.  Were they leased or did he sell them.  If he sold them or they were leased, that's another big ticket item that would need to be leased/bought.

Could only find the price of used ones on the internet and saw a used 2012 model CAT Grader listed at $199,000.  Really though I doubt if very many tracks have them on hand, probably lease them for a night that looks like rain might happen and then only for special events like the Outlaws or USAC or All Stars or ASCS national tours when its important to try and get the event in.
