While I am not a fan of the Chili bowl, I absolutely have become a midget fan.   I would rather watch midgets than any other class.   I think that the other posters have the right answers.   For many teams, the multiple cars are the back up cars for the remainder of the season.   They completely empty the garage for this event.

For the speciality built cars, most of them have weight issues to be legal anywhere else.  Smaller greenhouse around the driver.  Car is more narrow than normal cars.   Every part is either a exotic metal or has been drilled/milled to death.  The Bondio cars are always fun to look at.  They are always different than a normal midget.

No, watched it on the tube a few times but never in person. I know racing is much better in person, but I still enjoy watching other sprint car broadcasts. Midgets are definitely suited for a small track and I prefer sprints on a smaller track too - less than 1/2 mile anyway but not too small(1/4). The track at the chili bowl is so tight that that they have to bump each other out of the way to make a pass a lot of the time. I don't care for that type of racing.

"The track at the chili bowl is so tight that that they have to bump each other out of the way to make a pass a lot of the time"... well you don't "have to" but it certainly happens

However it was great seeing some of the better drivers who had bad heats fight their way thru the pack in "alphabet soup", & most of it was clean. I'm thinking Shane Stewart, Michael Pickens & Daryn Pittman, right off the top of my head. Lots of passing in some of the heats too

Not sure if I'll become a Chili Bowl regular like most of the people I met, but I'm glad i went at least once. If i have the time & $$$ next year, why not?
