Shane says on Twitter he got beat fair and square...

This vid seems to show that too, but the Stewart lovers and Shatz haters will of course disagree.

So... the .22 appears to be the difference in the total time it took them both to complete the race.  25:40.373 vs 25:40.593. I am not sure that is the same as the actual gap between the cars on the final lap.

The only accrurate measurement would be differences between the recorded moments when each transponder crossed the line on the final lap.

From what ive been told by someone who was at the race, there was a cone further down from flagstand and that was the "official line" He isnt a Schatz or Stewart fan. He said Schatz beat Stewart to the cone.

Thanks that helps to define the Start/Finish Line!

From what I can see there is a cone about 5 to 10 ft to the right of the green light.

Conspiracy theorists take a breath. Watch Brain Games sometime, a TV program that shows how easily our eyes/brains are deceived by things like lighting, angles, depth perception, etc.

PorschePete is on track. Donny start to finish tripped the wires 0.22 sec faster than Shane and that distance at speed was the difference in their starting positions, resulting in their very close finish.

Then that is where the flagman should be, not 100, 200 or 300 ft from the damn transponder. Or vice versa & if they don't have them on the same line it's bullshit no matter how you cut it.

Have ya ever noticed That they hardly ever have an actual clear cut on the goal line view. Just dumb.

Here's my video from last night, different angle. https://youtu.be/JEYaS5NJ4kk

Yep, from your angle it looks like Schatz won.... but no way by 0.22

Either way I wish I could have been there, great race!

As to the .22 second margin of victory, it has to do with the angle at which the scoring loop crosses the horse track to the junction box in front of the grandstand. Shane's car was technically over the edge of the auto track.  Even with the loop angle across the horse track, after viewing the Sprint Car Stats video (which is more in line with the actual finish line than the camera on the grandstand roof), I'm 100% confident that the correct call was made last night and Donny Schatz was indeed the race winner.  WoO officials are taking appropriate measure to insure the angle of the loop will not be an issue tonight.

Do the World of Outlaws still use human scorers for redundancy? If so, were they all in agreement that Donny won?

Thank you for pointing that out.  The way they did lay everything is most definitely confusing (start finish line has always been at the flag stand at every track I've attended).

For the record I'm not a Sweet or Schatz fan.

Manual scoring agrees with the official result.

Johnny cleared it up, it is a hardware issue that will be corrected.

I still think a $400 GoPro mounted at the official S/F line andtransmitting blue tooth to the same latop used for transpoders would eliminate some point of view and angle issues.   It would be super simple to release the officoal results with a screen shot like they do in horse and dog racing.

But then we wouldn't have these debates and what fun would that be?

Watched your video.  Where exactly did you sit......  Reason I ask is it appears you sat down by turn 1.  Again trying to figure out the angle and where the start finish line is in relation to.

Looks clear from your angle that Schatz was ahead--by a foot or so.  However-I did the math.  In order to beat Stewart by 1 foot and have a .22 second advantage, they would both be travelling about 3.099 miles per hour.   Smile

If you read Jonny Gibson's explaination of the timing issue you will understand.
