I'm not trying to be rude but I'm not sure how a person could blackout a Internet stream. Has this race ever been broadcast in the past?
|
They do it all the time at Parris Auto Speedway in Los Angeles. When you go to pay...it asks for your area code, then it checks to see if your area code matches your online feed's location. If it matches you get it...if it doesn't it won't let you order it.

I think T-Mac should have had to honor the contract RacinBoys has with the ASCS national tour.

Quit complaining and put up some serious $$$$ to broadcast it. its mccarls event and a damn good one. Nothing's free these days. Put up 10,000 to the purse and then maybe u could broadcast it. It's a business deal u should understand that .

Right...with all that money we are making doing free audio broadcast. We are just a little website trying to bring racing to the fans and pay the bills along the way. I do understand a promoter needs to do what he thinks is best for his event, again been there done that. I not complaining, I'm explaning. I didn't intend to start such a thread, I'll try to stay out this from here on out.

Cost money to have Smoke in the house, do what others do charge! This is a race (show) that would bring alot extra with (live video) to the gate. It's going to be a packed house no mater what, sprintcars everywhere, 360 nats just ran at kville. I uderstand putting your money on the line. It would be tough for any of us.

Touchy subject! Random thoughts:
1. Hard to argue about not getting something for free IMHO. Be thankful when you do but don't expect it every time is a nice rule of thumb to live by. You get what you pay for & everything in life isn't free come to mind as well. Nice when it happens though, huh? 2. McCarl/his company/partnership is putting up the $ for this race. His decision to make unless ASCS contract says otherwise. 3. If ASCS had a valid contract guaranteeing radio rights to this race to said company... it would be broadcast. I'm no attorney & didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night... but common sense makes me believe this or ASCS let him out of it via agreement. 4. Nascar gets paid for the rights to broadcast their races on a network. Other than that... how many other series get paid for their broadcast rights? Maybe F1. (Bet their North American ratings pale in comparison to Europe.) Indy 500 for sure. Most other series have to pay to get their event broadcasted. Internet broadcasts... I know nothing about the finances of it. Just pointing out economics. 5. Sounds like a sales pitch to say radio broadcasts help next year's ticket sales. It might. TV also was going to change the face of sprint car racing... getting it in front of more people. Sponsors love it, right? Seems like not so long ago that Uncle Ted owed $ to the wrong people for broadcasting his series & got a big surprise & "black eye." Corporate sponsors went to extreme sports & motorcross IMHO. That's a shame. 6. I hope the internet broadcasts continue & this is a hiccup. I don't participate in them but obviously some do & hopefully they continue to do so. Best wishes to the broadcasters sticking their neck out there to make it available to fans wherever they are.

You say with the fan base he has built he would be ok,how can you say that when this is the first year for 360's and look at the crowds they dray for the 360 nationals Knoxville has never been a good draw for a stand alone 360 event
If all your races are free they why do you charge for the Chili Bowl

Racinboys.com has recently started a program where you have to financially subscribe to view certain articles. I would think Scott Traylor could understand Terry's position on the matter.
PS--I am in no way, shape, or form a Terry McCarl fan.

Why else would you have a race if not to make money
How much did you risk to put this race on
Maybe 0

Hey message board wannabe tough guy who only calls out posters and never has any actual racing substance, if just outside the sprint car capitol of the world, during the biggest 10 days a racing of the year, this event is going to have problems filling the house, then it has alot more problems it needs to address over some guys sitting at home 2000 miles away getting to listen to a free internet broadcast, and needs to do a better job of promoting and probably could use all the help it can get to advertise its event. I pay to go to plenty of races over the year and "risk" my earned dollars on the sport I enjoy, and would much rather be there in person than listen to it over the internet. But if the same entertainment i witness can also give someone else thousands of miles away a similiar enjoyment, then it will only help promote the sport. Do you even go to the races, or just sit here acting like a message board warden, attacking other posters with legitimate opinions?

Better job promoting? Name one race that is promoted better than Terry's two races. I would guess he gives away $8-10,000 just in parts to the competitors for winning heats, b Mains, king of the hill, hard charger, hard luck, mechanic of the race etc, gives away a free large caseys pizza to every car that enters the race, pays CASH to everyone at the end of the night, lets people have the time of their life in the infield, he actually thinks outside of the box and it's not just another typical race. Gave away 1600 some dollars to Tony Bruce to go to the back when he didn't have to but he did for the fans. And everyone wants to bitch about it not being on the internet, guess what, it never has been at osky. I would guess having the promoters hat on is a little tougher than most of you give him credit for ecspecially when the promoter races for a living and probably pays alot of his bills with the money he makes on these two races, Terry is a smart business man and I would guess he knows what he is doing.

Why does every person who owns a computer think they are ENTITLED to get to see anything and everything they want for free.... If people don't attend the races in person and pay for a ticket, the race tracks and promoters will not continue to have them at all.....
Right now there are more people listening on the Knoxville radio station and watching the races than come to the races... Look at the Nationals tickets sold on their web-site.... Tons of tickets left for this week while everyone in Knoxville sits at home and listens for free or pays an internet streaming company for the PPV.... Knoxville only gets a percentage of that while they get the whole amount on tickets sold.... Looks like a very crazy decision for Knoxville Fair Board to allow these broadcasts.....
Bottom line, If you are a real race fan, buy a ticket and go to the races, if not read about it on the racing sites just a few hours later.... You won't die if you have a 12 hour delay in finding out who won....

This is dangerous and short-sighted thinking. Knoxville is adapting - not being left behind.
There's no perfect way to handle this. KNIA/KRLS don't just get to broadcast the races in Knoxville for free, that radio contract costs money. There's tons of tickets left this week because there's tons of other costs factored into going to Knoxville for several days. There's a big difference between paying $124 for four days of a webcast and driving several hundreds of miles round trip, paying for tickets, gas, food, etc.
This old-school mentality just doesn't apply today. It doesn't make it wrong, per se, but it is not the direction the sport needs right now. Knoxville needs to understand this and use it, not fight it. They've done a good job so far - live results that a lot of tracks don't offer and are really starting to embrace the digital age (YouTube videos of races and original content, Twitter, etc.). It can become more of a brand than a race track.
