It happens all across this country and it's nothin new. Someone gets a step up one the rest of his competitors and I don't care what type of car or what series it's in, the crumbling starts. You're right, Balog is going to keep handing it to em until either someone can step up and take it away or he loses his desire and sponcers....http://www.billbalog.com/

sorry but 18 feature wins is not a IRA record. 25 is. the record set by Bob Robel in 1978!

IRA seems to keep separate some of the older records alot of what I have seen listed is modern era. In 1978 those were Winged Super Modifieds (self starting), not sprint cars. Suffice to say Balog has the sprint car record.

All I know is IRA is starting to lose fans. I have talked to MULTIPLE people that have decided to not come to the races anymore because they are sick of seeing the same thing. Maybe its time to add an additional incentive to Balog (extra $1000 if he can tag the tail and win or something along those lines)? Or put a "bounty" out to any team that can beat him?

Personally I like IRA races because it's an opportunity to watch Bill race and BS with him before the races. Likewise all the other IRA drivers, they're a great group of racers. I hope that the day never comes when I take racing so damn seriously that I can't enjoy my time at the races without finding something to bitch about.

I am reluctant to post as then I dont sell as many as I'd like to. I just completed the full race video and will have them available this weekend at Oshkosh. For those that want one but are not in the area I can mail copies of the full race. Contact me here or thru facebook at Grandstand video. My number is on every video so I dont mind placing it here. 630-267-4589. I plan on posting the pre race stuff and invocation/anthem. There was a tribute to Jason Leffler along with a missing man 4-wide in the A.
Jeff Fischer.

That would be awesome if you were able to sell digital copies via download. I would totally ante up for that.

Just where is the cutoff point for modern era? This isn't football or baseball where you have almost 100 years of records. The IRA started in 1968, therefore they are not even 50 years old. There should be no modern era or new era. Bob Robel holds the IRA record, PERIOD.....JMO

The old website used to show 1986 as a cutoff date. I would believe that the cutoff point was when the cars made the final evolution to sprint cars.
If memory serves me correctly IRA started by drivers unhappy with Wilmot promoter Ray Toft. They were Modifieds back then and evolved into Winged Super Modifieds similar to those EWSC had in Plymouth.
The Super Modified moniker was dropped when the cars were no longer self starting and I do think that was around 1985-1986. Records were kept since that time as sprint cars.
Don't think anyone is denying the accomplishments of Mr. Robel... 25 wins is 25 wins.. and well earned. Think the national record for wins in a season goes to asphalt where both Tom Reffner and Dick Trickle had earned 67 feature victories in a single season, different years of course.
One has to put this all in perspective however, as it used to be possible to race 6 days a week ( or more considering afternoon / evening shows on the same day within traveling distance )
What I do know is .. in spite of the constant bitching I see from "fans" (*cough sure.. ) on forums and facebook we are all fortunate racing continues to exist in an age where a car easily exceeds a years salary for most people.
I think about how lucky I am every time I sit down in a grandstand to watch an event anywhere I travel because I've gone past too many places I used to sit where the track no longer exists.

The IRA uses the "modern era" records because as a group they do not have complete or accurate records prior to 1986.if anyone has the records pre 1986 please e-mail the records to me at [email protected] or if they are only paper copies bring them to the IRA souvenir trailer and then we can begin to update and include records pre 1986.
One difficulty has been separating records from Wilmot and IRA as every Wilmot race was not IRA sanctioned.

You're welcome. An uncle once told me that bitching about something while continuing to do it is akin to beating my head against a tree. He said if it hurts that bad that I have to b*tch about it then stop doing it. Weekends are for relaxation and entertainment is meant to enhance that weekend relaxation experience. If racing p*ssed me off I'd stop going. As a matter of fact I got to the point over the past couple years where I tired of sitting through six classes to watch 20 minutes of Sprint Car track time so I scaled back to a dozen Sprint Car specials and stopped being a cheerleader for weekly racing. Not that there's anything wrong weekly racing but I think when a person hits certain milestones in life (with me it was turning 60) that we tend to want to get the most out of our remaining time on this rock they call earth. Watching six classes two nights a week isn't a good fit. I hate to say this because it could be interpreted as anti racing but some folks need to give it a rest if it's raising their blood pressure instead of winding them down.

Actually you could race 8 times a week in Wisconsin back in the day. How you might ask? Sundays they would run in the afternoon on a track that was built in a cornfield outside of Oakfield. Then they would fly down to Slinger for Sunday night. Sometimes the speed on the road going from Oakfield to Slinger was faster then the speeds on the tracks. I would have to ask my dad the exact nights and tracks for the rest of the week. Almost positive Tuesday was Beaver Dam and Saturday was Plymouth. Thinking Hales Corners was Friday? Not sure. Think Seymour was in there and 141 speedway in Francis Creek. Ahh to be back in those days. Think that's why they call them the good old days.

This thread is 'old school' thanks to a bunch of 'old timers'. By that I mean it is similiar to what this place was a dozen years ago. People sharing thoughts and memories with other racefans with the common denominator being racing, plain and simple. You need not know someone when you are a racefan, you already know them. Some of my best memories of being on the road 10 months a year selling photos was all you folks who came up and told me your stories and some history of wherever I was, it meant a lot to share in your joy. I also had many stories to tell and sharing them was of equal fun. To mention it again is redundant, 'ahhh, the good ol' days'......

Sunday was also at one point, filled with either Waukegan or Lake Geneva......There were times I would drive 2 plus hours to Beaver Dam on Tuesday, assist Dick Colburn, go to work tired, and help out Saturday at Wilmot and then Waukegan on Sunday. Those were TRULY the days.......
