I like Donny Schatz more each day...and I don't care what anybody says.
I do remember the wild thing take out several cars in what a seasoned announcer might call "an ill advised move" in T3 of the Grove on the first night of speedweek a few years ago in the Wintermeyer car...the car and driver did not run ANY of the remaining shows.
Meanwhile...many of the regulars in Area 51 say the #15 is one of the fastest and cleanest drivers they have ever seen.
the 93...well...has been known to run multiple grooves simultaneously...

Wendell123: " lost his faith in humanity" over a little bang bang in a sprint car race, a "bang bang" that heppens nightly somewhere across the U.S. and Canada, Australia and New Zeeland. Ya kiddin. Get a life Wendell!

Actually man you just proved my point exactly for me lol. Thank you I guess Lol. Yes......your are Overly correct. Those kind of sliders and passes happen every weekend across the country in sprint car racing. That's part of what makes it great, we love it. I was being critical toward Shatz for crying about it(if that wasn't obvious). The slider was perfectly fine. kudos to Sheldon . I lost my faith in humanity because Shatz apparently can't handle that. Boo.....hoooo .....the 93 pulled a slider a BEAT me in a freakin heat race..........Poor baby!!!! Are you kidding me?! I lost my faith in humanity because of Shatz. He's the Kyle Busch of sprint car racing ........entitled. Thinks he's entitled to coasting to the checked, but can't handle it when a rookie shows him up in a heat race. Once again props to the 93. Kudos to the 93!!!!! Maybe the best pass we've seen in 2017??! WAY TO GO SHELDON ! If nothing else Shatz might have learned something from the rookie? Maybe?

Like Terry McCarl once said after taking out another WoO driver. "He's got god damned brakes, tell him to use them" classic

Have you met Donny or just "watched him." If its the latter than it would be pretty hard to deduce that his personality is that of a "TURD." If you've met him and still think that, no worries. Not everyone on this planet gets along. He may seem a little crass or robotic, but he's gotten more open over the years. Reserved? Yeah. Turd? Nah. You may have a personal experience of a run in with him which would cause you to think of his personality as that of a piece of excrement, which again is your prerogative, no worries. After the races he's oftentimes the last hauler to leave (and notice that some of the "really good guys" on the WoO tour are the first to leave), signs autographs, takes pictures, interacts with kids well. Doesn't exactly make him a saint, but doesn't make him a turd either. Just food for thought.

If anyone has twitter, look at the pics Vince Vellela posted. Shows a really nice pic of Sheldon clearly into the back of Schatz, and Donny's left rear is off the ground. I would say that has something to do with the retaliation.

I lost my respect for schatz when I was 5 and he was a nobody in the woo series still and I had a kinser shirt on and he turned me away saying I see what kind of fan you are I respect his driving skill but not him as a person

so some photo evidence of something.....amazingly no one mentioned that as being a precursor to hte other contact....
back to your regulaly scheduled "Schatz isn't as good as Kinser" posts.....I mean "Donny isn't friendly" posts.....I mean "We hate Donny because he wins too much" posts.

That's a bummer and I wouldn't like him either after that. I've always had good interactions with him and he has gotten more "open" the last few years.

As I said earlier my guess is Donny's reaction was cumulutive over a couple incidents. The one you mention being one of them. Perhaps, that incident was the catalyst and the close call slider was the straw that broke the camel's back for Donny. Perhaps similar things in the past few races (I'm guessing here, I don't know) also occured. Either way, these things happen on the track sometimes.
Here's the pics you reference:

As I get older, I pause a while before rushing to judgement when these types of things happen. There's always two or three sides to every story. Now that I see the photo of Sheldon hitting schatz hard enough to lift his rear end of the ground, this whole story makes a lot more sense. I love watching Sheldon. And I don't necessarily like schatz but I respect him. If you read the initial post for hauds race team you would thing schatz was a baby about getting passed and end of story. But again now with the picture I get it. And I get that hauds family is going to his sheldons back. Do I think schatz should've take out his front end? No. Do I honestly think that's what he was trying to do? Again no.

Pictures tell a thousand words. I can see why Donny was upset now at least. I just wish he would express his displeasure off track rather than, intentionally or not, damaging a car on the track. Not the first nor the last time Sheldon is gonna piss someone off in track. Watched him a lot locally and a right rear gets occasionally fed, as I've seen that since he's been in WoO too. Still love the kid and his ability but its hard to drive the way Haudenschild's do and not occasionally cause contact and ruffled feathers. I'd be upset if I was Donny too after getting rear ended like that in a turn.

While age does aid with wisdom some people just do not possess the cognitive ability to take a breath, step back and look objectively at a situation and then not overreact. But we live in an immediate reaction world now. I'm not that old but my father taught me to see things in an objective light whether it involved me or not.
That said agree with your post as well...

In reference to the twitter link that shows the pictures. The upper right picture where Sheldon is getting into the back of him is in middle of the race? When I first saw it I thought it was when Donny took out his front end.

With lil Haud being one of the low budget teams in the woo losing a front end over racing a driver hard and clean must be frustrating and the tsr team should pay for it and Jason Johnson racing schatz hard at the nationals is understandable it's 150,000 dollars on the line I would too if I was in Jason johnsons position overall what schatz did was wrong and he had no penalty for doing it the officials must be scared of him
|
i didn't see what happened with little Haud so I won't comment on that but I will say something about Knoxville and Donny. Donny is so good and such a clean racer he's held to a higher standard compared to most other drivers. I enjoyed the Knoxville race but we all know if Donny would have drove the same way Jason did and was the winner all we would of seen on here is Donny couldn't win it without almost crashing Jason.
its like everyone says well Donny is way better than the competition so he should race clean and they can run him over if they want but it's ok as long as he doesn't do it back.

LOL,LOL,LOL. He should remember one thing. Lil Haud, is going to race you, and he did. If Shatz has a weakness it is that. You get up on the wheel and run him into the corner most times it can benefit you. He doesn't like that style of racing. Problem is he is tuff to get in that situation. Donny is good for a reason and he stays out of those and he will set you up and be gone past you before you can react. The guys forward drive is remarkable. Thanks to RW. As for running over Haud, yea if that was 20 yrs ago he probably would not done that to Hewitt, LOL, unless of course he wanted a black eye.

I would be surprised if the pic from twitter was during racing action (top right). It was so dirty there, that pic is to clean and there is a push truck outside of the infield. I don't recall both of them ever running that low together.
