Simple solution.. Fastest must equal highest top speed. Quickest is lowest lap time and hence the size matters For fastest.. Just ask a team what gear they put in... Lowest number is the fastest..

Too many variables to use lap times alone to equate highest top speeds......banking, corner speeds/momentum, precise distance travelled, all enter in to the equation. For instance a driver might time 13.00 on the bottom and another driver might time 13.12 in the middle groove. Who had the fastest speed average? According to the clock the driver who ran the 13.00 did. But he travelled less distance. As for the gear ratio, yeh the lower numbered gear allows for probably more speed on the chutes, but may cost momentum in the corners. With lost momentum the taller gear takes longer to reach peak speeds. The variables are pretty extensive. Top speeds and fastest actual times can only be verified with a speed gun and a surveyers wheel. Without those, it's all educated guessing, and I'd put my bet on the opinions of the guys driving the beasts.

I remember when the Outlaws first visited the US36 Raceway a few years ago.  It's a 3/8 and I think it was McMahan that turned it under 10 seconds at 136 mph plus?  That was just crazy fast on such a short track.

There still seems to be confusion.. Fast is measured in MPH  not seconds.  Quickness to cover a set distance is measured in seconds.

With teams all gearing the cars to produce maximum rpm near the end of straight.  Fastest (speed)  is simply which track has the tallest gear ( closest to 1 to 1)

For weekly tracks,  I am guessing Knoxville with its sweeping turns carries a lot of speed..  I am curious is to the gear ratio difference between Knox,  port and wg

This has been argued in another thread a while back. For average lap MPH, Belleville High Banks is the fastest dirt track that has a history of lap times recorded. And I would have to agree after seeing some highlight videos. Looks insanely fast.
