I am giving my potential sponsors the chance to tell us what they would want me to do.  since I can't drive myself to appearances and stuff I can't guarantee things like a regular adult driver could do.  and no, I don't have family members that are paying for all my stuff.  I have to come up with my funds myself to prove to my parents that I really want to do this.  so I think that will tell my sponsors that I will also work hard for them in any way that I can since I am only 13.  I had someone tell me that maybe a paypal account would be helpful to people that may want to help me out so we did that today.  the paypal address is [email protected], that is also my email for anyone who would like more information.

FOUND A CAR READY TO GO!  Still short on funds.  If anyone could help that would be amazing.

Yes, they are kids (most of them anyway that are running the division he is looking at).

Do I think he has dedication? yes.

However, businesspeople aren't in the business of handing out $$$ just because you are a kid (you can't look at it just from one perspective, you have to look at it from both sides).  They still expect to see certain things.  Doesn't matter if it's a mom & pop operation or a huge corporation, they have to justify the expense (even $100) as profit margins (especially for mom & pop operations are very slim, that's why most don't stay in business very long anymore.

Even most of the cars @ English Creek that have some type of sponsorship are sponsored by FAMILY members that own a business, not by complete strangers.  Do I think he'll get some takers?  I hope so, but my only thought was about helping him and get his wheels turning in his head before he met with a potential sponsor.

If you were the one out there pedaling for sponsorship would you rathter read those questions in response to a post on a message board or be un-prepared for them when you meet someone face to face asking them to sponsor you?

I'd rather be prepared.

Lifes largest lessons are made from mistakes,So, your kindly  teaching him the ins and outs of sponsor seeking? . Im not 100% sure, but,  I believe this youngster is seeking sponsorship of funds less than a full blown WoO deal. Again, I could be wrong?, he will mature and evolve into a marketable racer if he so chooses to keep his feet on the strait and narrow,  he will experiance, upsets, crashes, burnt up motors, success and defeats, are you going to spoil that for him too? your defence of a buisnesses $100 away from closing the doors is strange , thier simple answer for the youngster is "no" or better yet "no, not at this time, but please check back soon" Ive been thro this sponsorship deal first hand and exhausted every avenue, im no spring chicken anymore, if the child has the enthusiasum to keep pusuit, and he finds a intrest or intrested parties, well then, he deserves it.. If he looses a few along the way, he will learn from those exeriances also. maybe your motive is a positive one and your bed side manner was less than desireable to many of us, things writtn/read are hard to take back. Ill forgive you, its really no biggy, just try be a little more "soft" at your tutorship if thats what is intended.

Dirtdevil,

I should have maybe re-read my post before I initially posted it, but it was offered as a starting point to help him along (he's 13, not 35).

I have a son that is 10 and a 14 year old daughter.  I'd rather give them a little advice up front than to have their dreams "crushed" when they go meet with someone and not have answers to any questions that might arise.

Tyson,

I dont know you.  You dont know me.  I expect nothing in return, but maybe some Nascar Hot Passes when you get there. Smile

You gotta start somewhere...

I gave your PayPal account a little bump.  Hope it works out for you. This makes it easy for someone to give $5, $10, $50  whatever.   Hopefully others may join in.

Good luck with your racing venture..

R

I want to thank everyone for their help so far and that means both advice and everything else.  There are people that I have met in the last week or so that have been so nice and helpful.  I would really like to thank those who have helped so far.  i am so close to get to go racing.  Thanks again. - Tyson

I am going racing!  Found a roller to buy, pretty sure we found the motor too.  Hopefully this weekend we can pick all that up.  Then the build starts.  Still need a seat, stearing wheel and spare parts.  Also need safety equipment and that stuff is very expensive.  I want to thank those that have helped so far as they are the reason I have the roller and motor.  Still needing some help with the above mentioned items.  Sure would be a lot easier if emails and phone calls were returned.  But...that is what happens in racing, right???

How many of us have spent 17 dollars on some 3 dollar nick nack being sold by a kid as a funraiser for a school group knowing darn well that out of our 17 bucks the school organization is only going to get 5 bucks? How many of us have spent 5 bucks on some generic candybar that's only worth about a dollar as a mighty mites football fundraiser knowing that probably only a dollar of our 5 goes to the mighty mites program?

How many of us have thought all invovlved would have been better off if we just gave the kid 5-10 bucks to put in the organization without buying something we really didn't need????

I say this to make two points....

Point number one.... if we are willing to spend 15 bucks on 2 dollars worth of candles so the local PTA can make 3 bucks and the candle company gets the rest why can't all of us also go to this young mans paypal account and send him 5 or 10 bucks as a gift? (paypal doesn't take a percentage on gift transactions but they do take a percentage on purchasing or fundraising transactions) Anybody who would do this will spend half as much pocket change as they would buying a product from a little league baseball team fundraiser, and Tysons cause will recive 100% of that pocketchange instead of seeing the biggest part go toward some company who thrives off other peoples need and charitible attitude.

Point number two.... Tyson, could you take a page from these fundraising drives and do it yourself without padding the pocket of some big company? Meaning could you go buy a box of kingsize Hershey bars or a box of some other trinket and go door to door fundraising for your race team? A box of 48 Hershey bars would cost you around a buck a piece, and if the mighty mites kids can sell candybars for 5-7 bucks each surely you can too...hahaha.

I left you a voicemail a few minutes ago. Call me when you get a chance. I have several connections in the outlaw kart game. I have a feeling I can make some calls and get quite a bit of parts and that type of stuff donated to your cause. Need to talk to you to get some details about what type of stuff you still need, what fits, and what your rules require on certain stuff. Also want to talk to you about which class you are choosing to start out in.

Great post.  I don't have a lot but I donated and told Tyson the other day that I would deposit some every couple weeks.  I just quit throwing my money away on lottery scratch tickets and am putting it away for to donate to a greater cause.  If you meet this young man and his family you can't help but climb on board the Tyson Train.  Looking forward to seeing him progress and the only thing I am expecting in return is the satisfaction of helping him realize his dream.

Way to step up Darnall, that's the kind of info and help that I hoped to see happen when I first saw this youngsters post.  Hope to shake your hand someday, any chance you will be at the Nationals this year?

Mike, I talked to Tyson's Mom yesterday and I am trying to put together a little memorabilia sale here at the Beer Garden to raise a few dollars for him.  Anyone that can round something up let me know via email and I will either pick them up or you may drop them off now or at Nats.  Plan to just put the stuff out and sell it.  We get a lot of traffic here and it should do well, especially during the days of the yard sales.  T-shirts, photos, just about anything.  Thanks.

I would be happy to donate a few items for a collectors sale come nationals time. Can someone make up a sticker that we could send to him to put on the kart somewhere? "Tyson's Hoseheads Homies" has a good ring to it, any other ideas would be great.

Anyone wants to chip in or donate may drop it by the Beer Garden at 902 Middle St., One block N/E of the H of Fame or throw it on the Party Wagon as it passes by and George and Rita will get it here.  lol.  You can also stop by any day and see what is available for your purchase!  Thanks for everyone's generosity.  Just trying to help these folks.  I have no other connection.
