Nose to tail, you are not alone. I don’t think anybody likes that kind of heat. This issue is another part of making a track “fan friendly”. What if the stands were covered like Victorville or Hanford. That would provide shade and you could also add misting “outdoor air conditioning” or a couple of Macro-Air’s giant fans. So the next question obviously is how do you pay for them? How about solar panels? Victorville generates a lot of their electricity for the entire facility from solar panels. The roof over the stands is covered with them. We all know that state owned fairgrounds have no budget for capital improvements but the state is putting solar panels on everything. A lot of state buildings now have built covered parking so they have a place to mount their solar panels and generate electricity to charge their electric vehicles. Maybe they could find some money for this if they could get a reasonable payback from lower electricity bills. Another option may be the covered stands at Hollywood Park. The horse racing track has closed and will be, or already has been demolished. I don’t know if it would make financial sense to tear down, move and reassemble these but it should be worth a phone call or two.

I was talking to a girl in the bar last night.  She said, "If you lost a few pounds, had a shave and got your hair cut, you'd look all right."
I said, "If I did that, I'd be talking to your friends over there instead of you."
When you are over sixty who gives a sh--?

***********

I was telling a girl in the pub about my ability to guess what day a woman was born just by feeling her boobs.
"Really" she said, "Go on then...try."
After about thirty seconds of fondling she began to lose  patience and said, "Come on, what day was I born?"
I said,  "Yesterday."
When you are over sixty who gives a sh?

***********

I got caught taking a pee in the local swimming pool today.
The lifeguard shouted at me so loud, I nearly fell in.
When you are over sixty who gives a sh?

***********

I went to the pub last night and saw a fat chick dancing on a table. I said, "Nice legs."
The girl giggled and said with a smile, "Do you really think so."
I said, "Definitely! Most tables would have collapsed by now. "
When you are over sixty who gives a sh--?

I need to remember there was a lengthy red for Mr Alderman and that there were a couple of unforseen stoppages that piled on.

Like I said. The racing was good and credit to the race track prep on another tricky weather week.

I agree BUZZ. ,,,,, No matter how many classes run their show. ,     It all needs to be completed by 10:45 at the latest,,, Why the so late finish on the CRA show. ,,, that show should have been over with by 10 pm.  Just for this reason Iam glad that I was not there !!!!!! ,,,, evan though I missed a good show.   The gates open at 5pm . ,,,,, And the show goes  past11:30.  ,,,, That is 6 and one half hours . ,,,, Thats just bull shit. ,, the track.,,,, the promoter. ,,, Have got to make better  use of their time,,,,,.  yea the CRA fans got to leave after their show. ,,, At 10:30. ,,, This show should have been over at 10 pm. ,,,, WITH THE OTHER TWO MAINS THE SHOW SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER WITH BY 10:45 EVEN WIth TWO FLIPS. ,,,,  The PAS needs to step up ,,,, And take care of business. ,,,,,, To me it sounds and looks like the PAS needs to start their show 1 hour earler. ,,,, Open the gates at 4:00 with hot lapping on the track.   ,,,,, You already open up the back gates at 12:00 noon. ,,,,, Make better use of the time when you open the back gates/ ...."" No more drivers meetings"" . every one gets a spread sheet when they sign in at the back gate. ,,,,, I think that it is time for the PAS to get a NEW  ""CEO "". ,, or find  a repiacment for evelyn pratt,,,,,,,,,,,  John

I just gotta throw my 2 cents in here, speaking for myself and not the race track, we opened the gates at 9:00 AM at Ascot, closed them down later in the day to sweep the stands, opened back up somewhere around 3 or 4, ran the show SPRINT CARS ONLY, and it was common to shut off the lights around midnight of later, 100's of fans made it a 12 hour day or more...no one complained. So now, Perris listens to the board, makes the changes they request, runs 4 divisions, we are busting out ass, eliminate the interviews, cut out the dance contest etc and WHO complains...? Someone that has not even been there all year... calls it bullshit etc etc...if I wasnt an employee of the race track my reply would include a few more thoughts, a few that would get me banned from the board, but I gotta say something as nice as I can, if you don't like it, will not even be there, please take your 15+ year negative reputation AND VENOM somewhere else, it's getting real old, I really hate to jump up and call out a "fan" and I know Donnie and gonna be upset with me for doing it, but sprint car racing does NOT need the bullshit you sling in every direction that it might stick. As far as the PAS getting a new CEO, the current one has about 25 million invested, it sure does seems silly to me for someone that doesn't have 2 dimes to rub together to talk crap about his show...to the rest of my friends, hope you enjoyed one of the better sprint car races we've had recently, and if you missed it, I beg you to be there on the 24th, there is NO BETTER way to spend a Saturday night...

Well chris ,,you know back in the Ascot days we  were all in our late 20s  early 30s. ,,, and no health  problems. ,,,  You say your busting your ass over 4 div. Than start an hour earler. ,,, Open the gates at 4pm with hot lapping on the track at 4pm First race at 6:00 pm . ,,, OR drop a Div.,,,,, And the reason I have not been at the PAS this year is becouse of health problems. ,,,now you have made a change by starting the CRA Sprints cars the second main event. ,,, . I really tryed to make it to the show this last sat. ,,,,, I just could not get there. ,,,, way to hot for my health condition. ,,,, Even knowing that the change was made to were I could leave aroud 10:00 When the CRA show as over. ,,, Than reading it from BUZZARD that the CRA show went until 10:40. ,, If I were there I would have really been PISSED OFF. ,,,, I would have left to go home . ,,,, If you did cut out the dance contest.,   And eliminate all the interviews than why did the CRA show get over so late ????????? With the change being made,,,, the CRA show was to be overat 10:00-10:15. ,,,, And my negative attitude started after USAC came on board at the PAS. ,,,, When it was SCRA things ran a lot better . ,,,, things got done . ,,, The show moved right along. One night we were outta there at 10:00 pm. ,,,,the complete show. ,,,,, most of the shows were over around 10:30 10:45 and those nights we had walt james and all of his old timers on the track for a half an hour. ,,, And a 20 min intrmission. ,,, I would be  back home in San Diego by 11:35 pm. ,,,, """"""""WHY""""""""" Can:t that be done now. !!!!!!!! I steped out of line when I said that the PAS needed a new CEO. ,,,, "SORRY'. ,,, I know Donny does one hell of a good job . ,,,Ive known Don sence the SCRA days. ,,,  He has been great to work with. ,,,, And thank god his heart is into 410 Sprints.   Other wise thay would be gone. ,,,, And chris when the PAS can start having the USAC/CRA show over buy 10:15 . ,,,, Ill show up with my 2 dimes and rub them together. ,,,, other wise my 2 dime are going to stay home. ,,,, may be the track can get a group of volunteers together to  Discuss time management. ,,,, This can"t be that hard of a deal !!!!!!. ,,,, And chris don"t BEG for fans to show up 'JUST FIX THE TIME PROBLEM. ,,!!!!!!!!  YOU FIX IT.,,,, ABD THAY WILL COME. !!!!!!!

You know chris. ,, I've known you sence the SCRA days . ,,, I don't mean to disrespect any one on this web sight. ,,,, It just when things are wrong. ,,, and have  been wrong for as long as they have . ,, Just talking about it does not fix the problem. and it goes on and on. ,,,, This getting over late problem has been talked about for the last 3 years"" NO CHANGE"". ,,,, Well useing the word"" BULLSHIT"". ,,, Seams to have gottin some people up and talking about the time problem. ,,,, And belive me their are a lot of us that feels the same way about how late the shows gets over at the PAS. ,,,,More pepole are talking about it now.But they try to be so"" political"" about it . ,, they are like walking  on egg sheels. ,,,   Well Don is doing his best. ,,, like they are afraid that they my piss Don off,  there is a problem hear !!!!!. ,, The PAS is losing there fan base. ,,,, there are other fans that also have health problems that have  stop going to the PAS.  Gates open at 5pm . ,,, we need to be out of there buy 10:00 pm and be able to drive home.,,,,' NO ONE LIVES CLOSE TO THE PAS'  But back to what I was saying. ,,, some times its the wording that gets things moveing. ,,,, And yes there was change this last sat. ,,,, It did not work to well,,,,, but it is a start. ,,,, I know at  times Iam  vary negative about some things. ,,,  ,,,,  Bottom line I want to see the stands packed with fans. ,,,, Tightin up the race schedule.  The entire show should be over buy 10:30 at the latest. ,,,, I know that some of you do not agree with me !!!!!!!

But Iam over 63, so who gives a SH@^. ,,,,, I got that from BIGFISH. ,,,,,,JOHN

first i would like to say that everyone at the pas does an outstanding job . if this subject would have never came up i would have never even thought about it . as racers we do what ever it takes to deliver the product the pas distributes to the fans . the work never stops for any of us involved racing or promoting  . in light of the pas wanting so much to conform to the wishes of people on this board  , my suggestion is to contact the promoter of ocean speedway and anaylize how the run their show . they have a few issues there , niose being the biggest and a 10 pm curfew . in my opinion ocean speedway runs a time efficient show . i couldnt afford to put my 2 cents in on this but this is a pennys worth ! this damn economy has us all down ......

A few points I would like to make.

First, don’t confuse passion for the sport with anger. Every one on here is passionate about the sport, wants to see it return to its “glory days” and is scared that it will die. Fighting amongst ourselves won’t produce any positive results.

Second, I know how hard it is for us “old timers” to face this, but Ascot closed a quarter of a century ago. Today we live in a different world, a different culture that has different expectations. We can remember the “good old days” and we can learn from them, but we can’t go back to them.

Third, I spent a lot of Saturday nights at Ascot from 1988 through the end in 1990. Some in the stands, but most in the pits. As I remember it, the races ended about 10 pm, they would open the gates and about a third of the fans in the stands would go into the pits. That would last about 30 to 45 minutes, then we would have to load up everything (remember there were no rigs in the pits), and drive home (60 miles). We would get home about 12:30. Ascot’s location put it within a 15 minute drive for several million people and there was a lot of racing of all kinds in Southern California at that time so it wasn’t hard to get 3 or 4 thousand race fans in the stands. Today, those same people spend 15 minutes just getting on the freeway and then drive 2 to 2 1/2 hours just to get to Perris and another 1 to 1 ½ hours to get home. Getting home from the races at 1am is a hard sell for the young families with kids that we so desperately need.

Fourth, you view this situation from your position on the “inside”. You have to understand that almost no one sitting in the stands, and most racers never give a moment’s thought to the incredible amount of work and risk that it takes to put on a race. When you work that hard and the event does not go as well as you would like, it has to be very painful and frustrating. On the other hand, I am sure that when a race goes really well, you have a feeling of pride and satisfaction that is like winning a big race. So fans, when you enjoy the races, post a compliment and find someone from the track and tell them you enjoyed the races. If you see something that could be done better, then provide some constructive criticism but don’t be nasty. Racers, do the same thing. Promoters and staff, don’t isolate yourself. Involve the racers and the fans. Let them know about the issues you have to deal with every day that they don’t know about. When you want to try something new, ask the racers to help. Ask the fans for their opinion. Explain your reasons for the change. We are all in this together and together we can fix it.

PAS runs a tight show, they clean up wrecks faster than just about any facility.  They always start on time.  We all like the infield pits.  There is an intermission if time permits, but if not I certinly remember going right into main events a lot of times.   If the track needs reworking it's worth it to spend that time making the show better, especially if there are multiple classes.  There is no better run operation, facility, or shows than what the PAS offers in my opinion.  I like runing the CRA main first, that is an idea that should have been implemented long ago as soon as we started running multiple classes same night to increase back gate revenue.  Listen up AZ.

Sprint Car racing is impossible to plan for.  A main event could take 15min or 2hrs.  We all remember the best parts of times gone by, but we also know there were many nights after midnight too.  At every track, not just Ascot.  El Cajon, Chula Vista, El Centro, Bakersfield, certinly Manzanita all had "one of those nights" from time to time so should we really complain about this or that or should we enjoy another Saturday night at the track?

Be thankful SoCal, embrace what you have and bring a friend.  See you at the Ovals PAS

first i would like to say that everyone at the pas does an outstanding job . if this subject would have never came up i would have never even thought about it . as racers we do what ever it takes to deliver the product the pas distributes to the fans . the work never stops for any of us involved racing or promoting  . in light of the pas wanting so much to conform to the wishes of people on this board  , my suggestion is to contact the promoter of ocean speedway and anaylize how the run their show . they have a few issues there , niose being the biggest and a 10 pm curfew . in my opinion ocean speedway runs a time efficient show . i couldnt afford to put my 2 cents in on this but this is a pennys worth ! this damn economy has us all down ......

Ocean works with military precision. As one race finishes, the next race is lined up and ready to roll. If they are not ready, the next class of racers are called up. No wasted time with unrelated racing activity. Santa Maria ran five classes last Saturday with the main event (late Models) being the third race after intermission and the race was over at 9:40 PM. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
