$35.00 for the Outlaw show at Devil's Bowl with free parking. $15.00 at Knoxville with free parking that's what 500 feet away? Sitting next to the two lard asses in Texas I would think the walking would do most everyone some good. That and don't eat two funnel cakes and a huge plate of onions in four hours and your big ass may even stay in your seat area.
You should be thankful Knoxville runs a weekly show with the caliber of drivers and equipment they have. The racing at Devil's Bowl was dissapointing.....Sounds like Knoxville again, had an entertaining night.
I suppose they should probably open up the skyboxes to you for the $15.00 tickets because you're entitled to those too.

I just want to know how many tracks have pay to park for a weekly show. Knoxville and the wonderful promoter there sprung this on us this weekend. I will say not all of the fairgrounds was pay to park....and before you all say well just park there where it`s free. I just want to know if this is something that is normal for your local tracks for a weekly show.
|
I've never been to a weekly show at any dirt track where they charged to park on the speedway/fair grounds. I'm lucky I guess. Tracks that feel the need to do this must be hurtin'. Free parking and BYOC...that's the way uh-huh, uh-huh I like it!

Yeah but you expect to get ripped off when you go to an outlaw show. It's a given. Whenever anyone advertises their product as "the greastest", that actually means it's just the most expensive.

With the Iowa State Fairgrounds running 305 sprints on Friday nights I could see some people choosing to go there instead of Knoxville. I personally don't care to watch the 305's even at Knoxville but as the cost of going to knoxville's weekly races keeps creeping up I may choose so spend my money elsewhere. I really don't understand why a track that has been losing fans year after year is doing something that seems to be counter productive. I didn't talk to a single person who was happy about it and I don't blame them.

I live within a hour of Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA, and Tulare Thunderbowl. I have yet to pay to park.

The city made it no parking south of the coop where I used to park. Any street with 3-4 blocks of the raceway has no parking signs posted.

I will not pay to park...I have talked to people around the campground and they said the same thing as me but it only takes a few to keep this thing at the race track going {pay to park}.....With all this said I will walk and have walked to the track...but it still doesn`t answer my question is this something normal at other tracks across the country ????
|
It is not at all normal. I have attended over 100 tracks across the country and Knoxville is the only one that I can think of off the top of my head that does this.

Wierd, I parked less than 4 blocks away on the street for free and there were all kinds of places to park on that street with no one parked in them. Just because the street you "used to park on" is no "no parking" doesn't mean that every street is "no parking".
Unless people don't park on the grounds, they have no reason to not increase their pay to park area. It's supply and demand, they own the supply and people are paying for it (the demand). If there is no demand for paid parking (people willing to pay it), the area will decrease in size or go away alltogether.

Knoxville Raceway is a gem and I'm fortunate to have it an hour from my home. When my wife comes along we pay $5 to park as near the grandstands as possible. When I'm by myself, I walk a few blocks to save the money. Either way, it's no big deal to me. I'd love it to cost less to come each week but a $5 parking fee won't keep me away. I spend at least $50 when I'm by myself, and at least $80 when my wife joins me. And, I'd come every week if I could keep my wife from complaining about being a racing widow.
I've talked to fans from around the world during nationals. They're jealous they don't have Knoxville in their backyards.

So you go to MU events and park right next to the stadium without paying? BS same goes for every other thing you mentioned in your message. You might get free parking just like there is available in Knoxville but it sure isn't right next to the venue either. If you want to park close pay $5 if saving $5 is more important that how close you park then you can walk a little more.
|
Where else in the world where you have the feild of cars in the 410 & 360's for what $15 to get in. I mean 30 410's sitting in the pits.

I guess if they felt that they had to increase a price or add a charge, this was probably one of the better options.
I don't agree with charging for handicapped parking (if that's the case), though.
I'm sure other promoters are taking note of this. Every promoter is looking for a way to make an extra buck and thoughts of charging for "prime" parking spots are no doubt running through their minds. Knoxville is a leader in local auto racing events and it would be fairly easy to charge for parking and say, "Well, they do it at Knoxville".

Wow, some of you are acting like you MUSTpay to park or walk 1/2 mile to get to the track from where you can park for free! I parked outside turn 3 on the grass for FREE on the fairgrounds! An extra 50 yards to walk from where the $5 parking was off turn 4. Big deal. Great racing opening night and all you want to do is complain about a few more parking spots are pay spots.

My boyfriend and I drove six hours round trip and thoroughly enjoyed opening night!! 80+ sprint cars for $15 when we're used to paying $18-$20 for maybe 25 sprint cars seemed like a real bargain. We parked at the Ideal Ready Mix because the $5 went to the Knoxville Lions Club as we always spend plenty of money on concessions so the track makes money off of us too.
