Completely my personal opinion, but no sprint car race on a half mile track should ever be more than 30 laps.

Exactly Johnny!

My problem with the whole deal is waiting for cars in the work area all the time. If they break, they get no time, except to push them back to their pit. Saves fuel!!!

I must have went to a different race then you. I could of swore some guy in a 63 car came from 19th to 5th. Then there was some kid in a 1kl car that started 17th and got to 6th. Seems like the only people upset on here just didn't want to see Donny win. I just don't know how to complain about a race that the guy that won it came from the B and put on one of the best performances ever at the Knoxville nationals. I can see next year already. If Donny is starting on the second or third row of the A it should only be a on lap feature.

I'm with you.  What I saw from the moment I sat down in the stands was fantastic racing the entire Nationals.  I am just not interested in everything that everyone hated about the whole setup.  Thought they made Friday night a very dramatic night for the racers and should have been for the fans.  Friday night never used to matter and now it does.  The World Challenge always sucked and you had drivers battling for the win because it actually meant something.  Quit bitching and enjoy the racing for Gods sake!

Bunk,  tires are going to be a big problem with 35-40 lap features.  Who says you will not have to refuel with a 35-40 lap race.  I saw tires on Donny car after race, the rt rear was really worn, almost smooth in middle of tire.  Sure you could put rock hard tires on cars and a huge tail tank, but what will that prove?   I have an idea, lets count all laps, even the yellow ones so we can get the race over fast.

That could be the dumbest post yet. Congrats on that

Agreed.  Sprint Car races should not have mandatory fuel stops.  At the very least if a fuel stop is needed it should be fuel only.

If Schatz was leading at lap 30 and BRown had passed him on lap 41, no one would be saying a word.

Thats very funny and very true.  Post of the week.

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

In regards to the fuel issue, isn't the Kings Royal 40 laps? If so, then why can't the Nationals be a 40 lap race without a scheduled stop?

I don't mind the idea of the marquee races being a little longer in distance, but just not a fan of pit stops in sprint car racing. Other than that, had a great time at our first Nationals and have no complaints about the rest of the format.

Knoxville is a REAL half mile.

Eldora is not.

Actually I was against the 40 lap feature and the 50 lap feature long before either one of them had been stopped for fuel.

I want to see a "sprint" car race not a damn enduro.

I actually think 40laps would be plenty. Still leaves you with enough fuel to go green to checkered depending on how many caution laps there are. Only reason why I say 40 is that, just from my point of view, 30laps just seems like just another sprint car race when it shouldn't be. It's the Knoxville Nationals, the biggest race for the sport. I know that the whole qualifying format adds to the specticle of the event but the A-Main should be big as well. Agreed though that 50laps is way too much. If Knoxville was 1/4-3/8mile then maybe.

I know that the Kings Royal is 40 laps on a 1/2mile, and I think the National Open is 40 laps on their half mile. Can one of the Posse boys confirm or unconfirm that? Don't want to say something that isn't true. I think those two events have great racing for the length that they are, so the Nationals should be 40 but no more.

I like the longer races, some years the race plays out better and than others.

I like the strategy it brings to the team/driver and us fans get more bang for the buck.

At the end of the day, I'm just happy we have sprint car racing and have the oppurtunity to be a part of it.

Make the feature 5 laps, i will be there.  Make the feature 75 laps, i will be there.  To me, there is way too much great racing going on all week for me to worry about who likes the lap count, fuel stop and tire change of the A-main.  Entertain me with great racing and I will be happy.  Did the A-main become a "slot race" as one called it?  Yeah, it did.  That only happens when its 50 laps?  I remember a ton of single file A-mains in the Nationals when it was 30 laps.

Not a big fan of the 50 lapper myself.  The 50 laps for the 50th Anniversary was a neat deal but were past that lets move on!!

Would like to go back to 30-35 laps myself.

Ditto...I agree.....

Alright I will add my two cents. This race should not be 50 laps! I get the 50th thing whatever but it needs to go back to 30 laps. If fuel is the reason to stay at fifty it is a terrible excuse. I get that they r close on fuel with 30 laps but when is the last time the a main went green to checkered. If there is a yellow or red flag at any point bring them in for fuel only. The field will be bunched up any way. Otherwise let them go. I'm not a schatz fan by any stretch but I recognize that I saw history being made. But on the other hand, if that was a thirty lap race that went green to checkered, nobody would have been withjn a quater mile of brown.

And while I'm at it, go back inverting ten in the heat races and do away with the friday night winner making the A on saturday. Make it as hard as it use to be. Kinser still won that way why can't schatz.

If you tell the team to show up prepared to run 40 laps with no open reds or planned cautions for $150k to win, they will do whatever it takes to make it happen.

They never seem to have a problem at the Kings Royal and Eldora for 40 Laps. 50 Laps at a track that big is just retarted in my opinion. Let alone it ruins the biggest Race of the Year.

Change it back to 30 laps.  Take the top 3 cars right from the scales to a tech facility and rip those cars down to pieces.   Having watched 50,000 laps at Knoxville something stinks right now.    Donny was .3 a lap faster than the field each lap all night.   I'd love to see Knoxville post the transponder data by lap from the A just to see the disparity.
