Scoring the "double" is when you get in two races at two different tracks in one day, according to an editorial in sprint/midget magazine Flat Out by Bob Mays.

Apparently many people have done it, but I don't know how its possible unless one is an afternoon race (a rarity today) and the other a night race, but this article talked about races both at night. Seems impossible, but he listed several tracks (two tracks in close proximity) where its been done. I've never done it but there must be a few of you out there who have.

OR, are there still a lot of afternoon races these days?

A few years ago Tony Stewart ran the Indianapolis 500 and flew to Charlotte to run the World 600 on the same day and got a lot of attention but it was nothing compared to this guy. Paul Stogsdill, who lived and still lives in Wagner, South Dakota near the Nebraska border, agreed to drive a modified stock car for an owner named Ron Campbell in Aberdeen, South Dakota, located near the North Dakota border. Paul's brother Leonard towed Paul's own car, a 1938 Ford Coupe, to the Riverview Speedway in Sioux City, Iowa, near the Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota borders for the regular Sunday night program while Paul flew to Aberdeen with a friend who was a pilot. At the conclusion of the program in Aberdeen on the Brown County fairgrounds, Paul and his pilot friend flew to Sioux City where they arrived in time for Paul's heat race. This was in 1952, 60 years ago AND he won both features.

My wife and I did this twice in 2 days. 1st outlaw show at terre haute(afternoon show), then that night at Paragon. The next day a Sunday afternoon at Terre Haute, then drove to Marshal, MO on way home and was able to see 1 heat, consi, and feature. I don't know if everyone will count this(as a double) as we were not there for every heat.I will say we had to drive like hell to make the Marshal show. A lot of people used to make a double at fair at Sedalia then Marshal that night for many years.

I've never seen this guy personally do it, but I've heard there is a guy that races at Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, SC on Saturday in a limited late model and some kind of sportsman class.

As soon as his last race is over, he drives his peronal vehicle to Chester, SC to race the remaining races at I-77 Speedway in a car he keeps parked there during the race season.

All the while, the cars he raced at Lancaster are hauling ass to Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC just in case he's able to make the show there.

During the World Finals, a lot of fans also attend the North/South Shootout for the asphalt modifieds on Saturday afternoon. I've done it a few times...
