It was Schatz in June and now Swindell in July. Alright folks, if we're going to keep this going we need to be proactive and start figuring out who is going to get dogged on this board in August. It's Nationals month, so maybe Lasoski or a Posse member? Maybe we need to make a priority list.

I'd say if we really want to attack a unfriendly and stuck up driver let's go after Danny Wood? Who is with me on this one?

OK I am being crazy...I'd be interested if any fan has something bad to say about him?

Before anyone takes this out of content.....Danny Wood has got to be the friendliest and easiest to approach at the track I have ever been around...The man absolutely loves the job he does part time...

I will 2nd this about Danny Wood. When he was running the Kings Royal (whatever the year) I remember approaching him about his RR tire compound (back when it was Hoosier and open) and he had some weird number. He explained to me that is was an experimental tire and so on and so forth. Had a real nice 10 minute conversation with him....AFTER THE RACES of course!!!!

do it in the dirt

Yes it was during the races. He didn't look to damn busy to me.What does it take 10 seconds out of his time.I did buy something.A program for a six year old boy thank you.I don't need a tissue asshole.

Now the truth comes out....

This is why, IMO, spectators should be barred from the pits until AFTER the races (along with the fact that 99% of them don't pay attention and are a danger to themselves and others by not paying attention to cars coming off the track.

I will guarantee you that if you'd waited until the races were over, Sammy would have signed anything you put in front of him (as would any driver in the pits except maybe Tony S. (because he had a plane to catch back to Loudon).

The idiocracy of people continues to amaze...

Dude, how would you like to Sammy to come into the kitchen while you're throwing together another batch of fries and burgers and stand in your way. I'd like to think he'd wait until your shift was over, dang, here's your sign.....

PS Sir Jon of Dumbville, I am a friend of his and many other drivers, most of them locals, I respect them all and appreciate them putting their lives on the line for my entertainment. A fan to me is a kid or newbie to the sport in the way I look at things, I've never asked for a signature in my life, I find it a bit silly myself, to each his own.....

Wow, gotta love the ignorance of some people. I am close friends to quite a few drivers as well and even I won't go near them during the races. On a few occasions I have stopped by the trailer just to wish them luck well BEFORE the races and went on my merry way, but never during.

I would agree with vande77, no fans in the pits during the races. I remember when I used to pit for a guy who raced street stock and we had to write down the car # and class when we signed in the pits. Each car was allowed 4 crew members. If you were not with a car, you were not allowed in until after the races.

Oh, and before anybody says it, I am NOT a Sammy fan.

For the record, I don't know Sammy any better than a stranger, I just know he's a race car driver.

The ONLY autograph I ever remember getting in my lifetime was Doug Wolfgang (and that's when I was 10 or so and I had him sign the shirt I just bought from his daughter) during the Nationals when he drove the 8d car for Danny Peace.

Man his t-shirts were cool, wish drivers today had nicknames and shirts that were that neat.

Maybe someone will convince him to print up shirts again in a year or two, he'd sell out of 'em in a heartbeat during Nationals.

Vande, he did a few years ago through the Dingus booth I think. Him and AJ, one of his biggest fans had something going on if my fading memory is correct. Doug may be the best conversation in all of sprint car racing, from a fun point of view, Doty is also up there....

Bought one of those, but it's been 3 or 4 years ago now.

Hoping he'll do another vintage shirt again in the next year or two so I can get a new one (I know he'd have a line to buy them, just like last time..

That is a good call on Wolfgang selling shirts at Naitonals, he'd make a killing.

As far as this guy asking for an autograph during the races, even if in his opinion there was a lull in the action and Sammy wasn't busy, he is in race mode and he obviously was doing something and thats why you got denied. Wait till the races are done, you may have to wait in line but so does everyone else but this post would have never happened had that been the case.

An autograph(s) is not included in the price of a ticket/pit pass.

I like the part where "he didn't look too damn busy". Really......one of the biggest paying races of the year and I would assume Sammy's cut for winning is around $20,000 to $25,000 but I bought a pit pass so I can enter his space because he owes me. He didn't look busy so I'm entitled to bother him on his work time. Go down on the football field during a game and get an autograph. See how that works for you.

USAC boy probably collects welfare and never worked a day in his life or doesn't understand what it takes commitment wise or even mentally to field a competitive car every night, especially at Eldora.

I alternate between a Sammy fan and a hater just because of his actions sometimes but let the man do what he does.....race his ass off and make it interesting.

I love revisionist history. In the early years of the Outlaws, Sammy ran the majority of the races. Between 78 and 2000 he had 17 years of top 10 finishes. Hard to finish in the top ten of the series unless you are racing full time. Starting in 2001, he did stop racing full time. Some of that was by choice, but some of that was placed upon him. There for a while it was hard for Sammy to find a quality ride.

World of Outlaws History: 1978 – 9th in points – 2 wins … 1979 – 2nd in points – 11 wins … 1980 – 5th in points – 10 wins … 1981 – CHAMPION – 28 wins … 1982 – CHAMPION – 14 wins … 1983 – 3rd in points – 17 wins … 1984 – 2nd in points – 13 wins … 1985 – 7th in points – 14 wins … 1986 – 11th in points – 12 wins … 1987 – 12th in points – 6 wins … 1988 – 2nd in points – 8 wins … 1990 – 10th in points – 14 wins … 1991 – 9th in points – 15 wins … 1992 – 11th in points – 20 wins … 1994 – 5th in points – 7 wins … 1995 – 12th in points – 5 wins … 1996 – 3rd in points – 11 wins … 1997 – CHAMPION – 19 wins … 1998 – 3rd in points – 7 wins … 1999 – 5th in points – 8 wins … 2000 – 2nd in points – 11 wins … 2001 – 18th in points – 2 wins … 2002 – 17th in points – 1 win … 2003 – 11th in points – 2 wins … 2004 – 18th in points – 3 wins … 2005 – 19th in points – 3 wins … 2009 – 13th in points … 2010 – 16th in points – 4 wins … 2011 – 12th in points – 4 wins.

JonR-

It is easy to finish in the Top 10 of a series that offers <10 fulltime teams during most seasons. Especially when you win as many races as Sammy. Especially, the years 1990 and 1991.

Nice try...

Your friend,

Glad-Brad

Hey Chris Lovett, why don't you wipe the Kinser sauce off your chin? Sammy, was for quite a few of those years, doing other things, such as making a qualifying run (and MADE the field) in the last stock block Chevrolet to ever qualify at the INDY 500 with "Lil" John Buttera's car, as well as some other ventures, i.e. grand national racing, Craftsman truck stuff, etc.

Steve has his legions of fans (actually I am a fan of his AND Sammy's) however, we as "true blue" Sammy fans state our hero's reputation on the fact that he's garnered MOST of his success via his OWN talent. Sammy may have had talented people around him and to help him, but he's pretty much always been his own main wrench, crew chief and set up man. He's never had a "Karl Kinser" to make up for any short comings. Only Sammy makes Sammy look good. That's (in most of our opinions) what sets Sammy apart from the rest. He can do it all. Like him or not, that's a fact, Jack.

I'm not the one who has issues with the facts here, bub. Debating facts with a die-hard Swindell fan is about as productive as one of Nelligan's Posse debates. I respect what he has done especially when he gets through doing it without taking the opportunity to act like an ass. Comparing Sammy and Steve isn't even close to an apples and oranges comparison whether you use the facts or the subtle nuances that differentiate the two. If you base the argument on sprint car wins and championships you can't make a case for Sammy EVEN WITH all the "but he, there was that one year, he ran trucks, experimental car, etc" excuses bullshit. I will always maintain that if you compared the two just in terms of who has the better personality Steve wins that one hands-down as well. Then there are the guys like "Glad-Brad". I don't know the color of the sky in their world but it's a different color than most of the rest of us. I don't need to know what the color of the sky in their world is because I like the color of the one in my world just fine :-).....

I love how people ASSUME things about other people. Usac Fan actually had a job & the company he worked for laid him off for 2 yrs during our great economy & hired temps. They actually called him back after that time off as a temp & were bought out by another company & hired him full time at less money than what he was making. So he doe's work & he even payed his third of a loan for a funeral for his Mom during the time he was laid off. He has also been going to the races for years so this isn't his 1st rodeo. Maybe ol Sam I Am just don't like signing programs I don't know. I do know this the kid that it was getting signed for don't like loud noises & he was doing it for him because he thought it would be cool for the kid. Maybe ol Usac Fan was so pissed that he couldn't explain it the way he wanted to.
