Please bear with me while I pay my final respects to a great racer and a greater man.
I am not fortunate enough to live in the middle of the states but I still got to see the great talent that was Jesse Hockett. Once after a really bad night at the Devil's Bowl here in Texas I went up to talk with Jesse - and mentioned that day at the Short Track Nationals when he was riding the cushion - smoking the right rear all of the way. Everyone else was pussy footing it around the bottom playing follow the leader, but not Hockett. He was going to the front up high. What a show he put on that day. Unfortunately the tire gave out on I think the next to the last lap just as he was going for the lead. Jesse seemed really thrilled that I remembered that day a few years later. That is the drive I will remember of "The Rocket". I will also remember that great smile every time I went to the pits to chat with him after the races. He always had time to chat and was friendly - no matter how the race came out.
Condolences to his family and many friends.
We will truly miss you, Jesse.

When I heard the news this morning, I nearly collapsed...absolutely dreadful news! Jesse was one of the classier guys in this sport we so dearly love! As hard a charger as you will ever find...you just dont come across a quality person like Jesse everyday. The world lost a good one when he died!!
