Is Oklahoma windy? Some lyrics from the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! may help. "Ooooooklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin down the plain. Where the wavin wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain."

Hey Ute, who drove the R&H car?

Just trying to bring a little culture to the board every now and again. Haha.

I live in Sioux Falls SD and don't recall being winded out. Stan mentions Jackson, 90 miles east of here, but maybe it's more of a regional thing, or a track layout thing? Is Oklahoma really windy? Are the tracks out on the flatland where they'd be more suseceptible to wind?

That happened when Jackson was a big half mile without any walls.  Jerry Richert Jr. told me about the wind causing cars to change lanes on the backstretch but I can't recall the details anymore.  He rode with me to Superior for a Gumout race in 2001 and we talked racing all the way up there.  It may have been that night or some other time but I trust the source.  He made a lot of laps at Jackson.

Oklahoma is pretty flat just like KS, NB, SD.  It is usually windy from either the North or the South.

There have been incidences of racing cancelled there in the past.  If a car is going on a straightaway with the wind, I believe the wing can get lifted by the wind.

The track in Muskogee is a big flat 1/2 mile.  As I recall, the long straightaways run North and South.  Here in KC that day, the wind was over 20 mph with gusts to 40.

Rule of thumb.  If it's too windy to carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood it's probably too windy for winged Sprints.

For those of you less inclined to watch a musical, the same lyric can be found in the movie Twister when they are all chasing the tornado (not a metaphor) and singing songs. Personally, I like Dusty's choice of Deep Purple's Child in Time better.

"IT'S THE WONDER OF NATURE BABY!!! WOOOHOOO!!"

As of this Sunday, my wife and I will have been married 35 years. I think part of that success is our policy towards musicals. Our rule is that I'll buy tickets for any musical she wants to go to, as long as I don't have to go. Smile

From National Weather Service in Tulsa a 1.5 hour west of Arrowhead for Sat. Night... Thunderstorms during the evening followed by occasional showers overnight. Low 51F. Winds SSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 80%.

My wife and I went to the musical about Carole King called "Beautiful" last Saturday for our 54th.  It was a good one.  A person has to have more than one interest.  It was an afternoon show so I watched the Outlaws when we got home.  Wife happy, I was happy, it was a good day.  I just bring this up to stir up the Neanderthals.

Must be 20mph with 40 mph gusts because that's what we are looking at here in OK and we just got canceled

I hope they can get it in but I'm thinking tonight at Arrowhead will get cancelled too due to wind.  They put a lot of work into that track just West of Siloam Springs Ar. on highway 412.
