You're right.
Hard to ignore him...

Only problem I have is it's bad enough reading Strawsers crap rants on here all the time, now on Flo we have to endure a Strawser doing driver interviews. Will in never end?

I never said anyone cheated. The best car and driver should win, not the one with the biggest set. I don't like single file racing and I don't like watching cars run on the guide rail. It is supposed to be a guard rail like at every other track (not a guide rail like a train track). Take a walk up there and look at it when you get a chance and you will understand a lot more. I like multiple grooves, just not that one that has been created in the last 3 or 4 years. Port was never like that before and I have been going for 40 years.
|
Everybody likes multiple grooves...
"The best car and driver should win, not the one with the biggest set"???
The best driver has the best combination of balls, brains, & knowhow
All balls, no brains, you wreck
All brains, no balls, YOU DON'T DRIVE A SPRINT CAR!
The best drivers won, on those nites, on that track... its always different

It really gets old watching the same 2 or 3 drivers undeservingly win at port royal. Their cars aren't great, they just have no regard for themselves or equipment. It doesn't take a good car or driver to run on the wall, just balls and luck. That is not racing. When they have to run down off the wall they are average at best. Look at saturday night, macri couldn't run the wall in his heat, couldn't advance and threw a ballbaby fit. They need to grade turns 1 and 2 down off of the wall so you need a good setup to run on the cushion, through the middle or around the bottom (like every other racetrack), not the wall. Me personally, I'm about to quit patronizing this speedway and I think that is why they aren't getting the car counts and travelers like they were. Many drivers and crews know they aren't going to come in here and have a shot unless you have a big set of balls, and run on the ragged edge. I guess if you want to cater to a few drivers, then you prepare a speedway that only suits their driving style. I'm just about done. Everytime I go, I hope they have enough moisture in the track to keep the cushion a car width off the wall. Everytime I am very disappointed.

Doesn't Hoseheads sponsor the Central Pa. point fund? And yet this page will allow a person or group of persons to denegrate one particular track and act like little Amber Heard.

Jz77 is actually correct about the configuration of turns 1 and 2. There is a sharp lip at the top of the track and Port has become very top dominant in the past few years. A lot of drivers have brought it up. Danny Dietrich being one. I think the lip up top combined with wider corners has made the bottom groove far less usable because A) the cars on the outside loading the right rear on that lip carry a ton of momentum and B) the apex of the corners now requires one to scrub entirely too much speed to be able to "roll the bottom" in a traditional sense. We can argue all day whether this is a good thing or a bad thing but jz77 is definitely correct about how the corners are configured and lots of drivers have brought up the fact that Port is extremely top dominant now. Me personally? I prefer the old configuration where Mark Smith and Todd Shaffer could rip the curb but guys like Hodnett and Kreitz could get hooked on the bottom and drive right by lesser cars. There was more side by side racing back then. Now, its mostly slide or die and pinching people against the fence coming off the corners. It's still a great track and I enjoy going there but I definitely liked it better before

Macri has a good setup for Port royal you have to give him that. If they choose to venture outside of pa let me suggest you better start to get a grasp on some other tracks in the surrounding area. Venture west for a weekend and see how he does, Lernerville Friday and into Ohio for a Saturday show. Wanna run with the big dogs well let's see if you've got the crew and talent to do that. Away from his home base he'd be in over his head for the first year. Happens to all of them that think it's easy.

I am not saying he would dominate on the road but he has won at six different tracks already this season and others last year. He ran well in California in another car last fall. Made the Knoxville A main. He might not win as many as here but they will know that he is there. As far as Lernerville on Friday's; who travels three hours one way for a cut in pay? As far as his winning this season, guys get hot and as usual all good things come to an end.

1000% agree with you. I would take back the Port track from the 80's any day over the ice skating rink the prepare today!

Maybe a row of orange cones and a sign that says "racers can't race above this line because a fan doesn't approve because it's no fair!" would fix the problem?

I didn't say that. I perfer a little cushion to let the drivers use it. It could be 3/4 up the track or tight up against the rail and for goodness sakes put more water on the track! The way the make the tracks today it is run in so hard and it is hard to make a cushion. Please just leave a cushion. So they don't bounce it off the wall.

So now it's unfair to have the balls and skill to run ap against the wall, and being able to use the entire track is not good racing? Well that "guide rail" is there for anyone to use. This topic is getting beyond silly. Every time Port has a fantastic night of racing which is pretty often, we have to listen to a few clowns tell us it wasn't any good. These are the same people who rave about a wet and heavy track with a cushion half way up that provides zero passing or side by side action. FWIW I've been going to Port Royal since I was a kid in the 70's and the racing today is far better than it's ever been. There was never as much passing, side by side or back and forth action as there is now, not even close. Most of the passing of yesteryear was manufactured by points handicapping and the fact that the cars were not nearly as even. As even and locked down as the cars are now, it's astonishing that a 1/2 mile track is able to prepare a track that produces such great racing even in the heat races.

Port had better racing in the 80's and 90's when they actually put water on the track and had a cushion. Yes, some cars ran above the cushion and some cars didn't. That is what makes racing exciting....not a slip and slide!

By next year Macri will be gone and your guy who ever that is might have a chance to win. I case you have not been paying attention Macri and Logan are known for running the wall, but as Lance said Sat. night Macri can run anywhere on the track when he needs to and that makes it hard to defend the lead against him. As far as undesrvingly, I am not sure where you are going with that.
|
It sounds like sour grapes from a guy that doesn't like Macri. For 1 Macri went from 8 to 5th in a stacked heat(was up to 3rd or 4th before a caution negated the lap). Secondly the winning pass Saturday night was made off the top of 3-4, not 1-2 where this supposedly unfair guide rail exists. Like you said Macri raced high and low going where they ain't to pass cars. Lance was able to go from 7th to the lead without running the wall. I'm sure a lot of people are getting tired of seeing Macri and Wagner dominate at Port but you got to hand it to them. They are currently the best at the track.

Lincoln is the BEST track in central PA and 2nd place isn't even close.
I only wish one track Wagner would get out more and go to some of these other tracks in central PA! I don't cheer any of them either. I really don't have a favorite when Larson isn't racing. My all time favorite is no longer around to be able to race or to field a car.
