Perspective is fine...however this is a sprint car message board so it's going to be discussed here.  I understand the nature of business relationships, I understand that in a capitalist society that businesses are trying to make money, and will do all they can legally do to make that happen, often at the expense of the same consumers that are spending that money.

However, let's be honest, local/regional/even national dirt racing is a much different consumer atmosphere than most businesses.  It has a very provincial and loyal fanbase that vehemently and jealously defends its loyalty against the perception that the rest of the world doesn't understand why we love it.  This creates a bit of a different mindset, and while fans grumble and complain internally about racecar tech, rule changes, scheduling issues, the handling of rainouts, ontrack behaviour etc.  It typically remains internal squabbling.  We often act like one big dysfunctional family.  We defend the product externally, and I believe that brand loyalty makes it a little harder to swallow the pill when it is perceived that the thing we love and had a personal stake in decided to take advantage of those who love it, even in a small way.

Dirtvision is a niche product that many of us got on board with and supported from the ground up, and as stupid as it may sound, I bet that many fans took pride in  being a part of Dirtvision's success.  Now it is felt that they took advantage of that loyalty....even if it is only for basically $80 for the year.  I think for many it is the principle that is more upsetting.  Does that make us as a fanbase gullible? Probably.  But, it also chips away at the loyalty of that fanbase a little bit, which is central to who race fans are.  That may sound hokey, but I think it is why some feel so strongly about something so inconsequential.  I know when February rolls around, I'll have to make a decision as to whether I want to resubscribe.  I probably will end up doing it at some point, however the fact that the thought of not doing it is a possibility, would have been unthinkable 2 years ago.

Fair point with discussing it on a sprint car message board which isn't a problem. I'm fine with discussing it but it is just odd a thread is started about this early in November, people either didn't care or thought they were being cheated, and then less than a month later it happens again like the first one didn't happen. It's the old saying, is there an echo here or beating a dead horse, or all the B.S about track prep at Port Royal.

Sprint car racing might be a different atmosphere than most businesses but the approach is always the same. How do we make money? Dirtvision might be a niche product but it is still something that offers something that can't be offered anywhere else. Each World of Outlaw race, including some of the biggest races in the sport for a monthly fee. Yes, there are other streaming services such as speed shift and others that offer a similar type of product and some fans can decide to steam that instead, stream both, or none.

If anything the loyality of the fanbase is what hurts the consumer the most. They know that some may grip, grumble, and complain internally but we are still going to sign back up or still go to the track because we love the product. I don't think Dirtvision's strategy was to see how many customers it could "trick" into getting $40-$80 out of. Typically, and it holds true with every company that I have worked for that has a marketing department, the thought is "we have this great idea that fans/customers are going to love and it is just going to be their regular monthly fee its going to be great!" "Just put it in an email, people will see it and put it on social media everyone uses social media now they will know." In reality no its not as great of an idea that they thought and they did not think everything completely through. I think some people give companies too much credit by thinking that they weren't transparent or tried to "scam" or "cheat" people out of money when it usually is that they just didn't think at all.

In some people's defense.. they might have signed up when the Terms and Conditions stated, "DIRTVision will suspend billing prior to World Finals, until the start of the following season. Any unused days of your 28-day cycle will be credited when billing resumes when the following season begins."

At the same time DV literally emailed all subscribers and posted on all social media that the austrailian races were to be included in the fastpass and billing wouldn't be suspended.

Its a double ended sword and a little backwards that subscribers were automatically opted in.

I can understand everyone's frustration, as I am frustrated by it as well.  I truly think that DirtVision's INTENTIONS were good (deliver some content over the winter, and normalize the revenue stream over a 12 month period), but the RESULTS are horrible.  I pay $39.00 per month to watch the World of Outlaws sprint cars, and there isn't a World Of Outlaws sprint car race until February, so I see no value in paying roughly $150 for winter months without WoO sanctioned events.

I did get the email from DirtVision, and I did cancel my subscription, so I don't beleive they did anything illegal or deceitful, but i do agree that it is somehwat misleading.  I went on their website this morning, and on the subscrition page it still clearly states that it is for all World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car events (with the exception of the Knoxville Nationals) and does not even mention anything about Australia.

If there are truly DirtVision and/or WRG employees reading this, I would simply say that I feel this is a very poor customer service decision, and p*ssing off a significant segment of your most loyal customer base is a horrible business decision.  I expressed that by electing not to continue paying, and will likely not renew in February.  They will get my business for the month of money, but that's it.   And just in case, DV needs some help with this financial model here is how it plays out:

36 weeks (since they actually bill every 4 weeks) of coverage @ $39/4 weeks = $351

52 weeks (sincle they actually bill every 4 weeks) of coverage @ $39/4 weeks = $507

4 weeks = $39

So this stellar business decision, will actually cost them $312 Year over Year in annual subscription revenue from this customer.

I don't post much on here, but I assure you that I am all in when it comes to sprint car racing.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for saying this.  These were my exact same thoughts.  If you folks weren't paying attention and now you want to bitch and moan, well go ahead.  Dirtvision has done an amazing job of covering sprint car racing the past 2 years now.  Yes, the first couple years were a bit of a challenge but they have really stepped up their game.  Go ahead and cry the blues and mo-fo them all you want.  I will continue to support them as they have done a great job.  Facts are, they did announce it in more ways than one that they were going to make it a yearly deal.  They did have on their original page that conditions were subject to change at any time.  If you missed it then it is your fault for not paying attention.  Everyone these days thinks they are owed something everywhere you turn.  Don't be a snowflake and go blaming someone else.  Suck it up and either get over it or un-subscribe.  It's pretty simple either way.  You people would bitch if it was free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  How about some good ol' Holiday spirit for a while?  Thank you Dirtvison for all that you do to provide us live video coverage of many forms of dirt track racing.

LOL at "hurr durrr snowflake why don't you pay attenion!!!!" being a response to this.

The funny thing about paying attention is I actually do, which is one of the reasons I was unhappy with how this transpired.

When signing up, I read the email that was sent and clearly stated "Your credit card on file will be automatically billed $39 every 4 weeks (or 28 days). Billing will NOT occur during the off-season. Any remaining days in your current subscription after our last Sprint Car Fast Pass broadcast will carry over into the 2020 DIRTcar Nationals and the 2020 season."

Honestly, I'm curious if DV's T&C are even legal given the way they are written. T&C are contract law and to exercise the ability to change things without mutual consent on the fly seems like it would borderline on being an Unconscionable Contract.

Just sit back and think a second - how many times in the past six months have you went to use a service/product and had to check a box or go through a prompt to indicate you were aware the T&C of said service/product have changed? It happens quite often. Or gotten a clearly titled email indicating you of changes? I just searched my Gmail inbox for "title:terms and conditions" and the quick results showed three within the past month that all had 100% clearly worded titles indicating that "Hey, something is changing and we want to let you know about it".

If you don,t have a dog in the fight stay out! Dirtvision can easily be declined by credit cards if not compliant. And they don,t rule the customers! Step out of line and deal with the outcome. Too many dirtvision reps and nut huggers that need to see the issue. We are going on 2020 in tech streaming ,,,,don,t look back.

Dirtvision wanting to get people on board, sneaky some say, whatever.  Similar maybe to Amazon buying online.  If you have not purchased thru Amazon and are about to purchase something thru Amazon, be careful before hitting the "buy now" button , make sure you have not accidentally signed up for the "prime purchasing/delivery deal".  Amazon is very very sneaky.  The "not interested in prime" statement or whatever the wording is, is in smaller print for a reason.  They hope you miss it.

Did you get a full credit or a provisional credit? Reason why I ask is I have had my bank/checking card stolen before. Thief made about $3300 of purchases before my bank put a stop on it. Made purchases at Nordstrom & Best Buy. My bank gave me a provisional credit & said that they would investigate & work with retailers but there was a potential that I would not get all of my money back. Best Buy ended up fighting it & it took over 30+ days to sort it out. The bank sent me a notice stating that my credit for Nordstrom was refunded in full but Best Buy was declined. However since I was a loyal customer with no history, they would go ahead a refund the money from the company itself since they did not catch the odd $$ amount of charges first but it was a one time thing.

So basically, you could be getting your money back, but Dirtvision could also be getting the money too. But in my opinion, it's not a scam

Way to set up a straw man argument there.  You shouldn’t be upset over being charged $40 because your daughter doesn’t have cancer.  That is a ridiculous take.

I think Nick's post was perfect.  First off, I will admit that I'm not a subscriber and if what you are saying is true it does sound a little shady.  And if they're not refunding people for the honest mistake (which most companys will) that seems shady to me.  But if they did email everyone the terms and conditions update, you've only got one person to be upset at.  I'd be pissed too if this happened to me and mostly because I missed it.  But seriously this post along with another one that must have been deleted has been going on for a month.  If $40 means that much to you maybe you shouldn't be subscribing?  Again I'd be pissed about losing $40 too but I'm certainly not going to be pissed about it a month later and I'm certainly not going to start a smear post on a message board about it over $40.  So in the end, what are you trying to accomplish?  Are you hoping to put Dirtvision out of business?

Lets face it, DV is like most other companies nowadays. Its standard practice. I just had to call Best Buy to reverse an automatic payment of $101 for renewal of their "help" thing on a computer I bought 6 yrs. ago that doesn't work at all any more. I had no idea I was signed up for it (but they did reverse the charge)

I cancelled with DV after Finals, no problem (so far....)

Not fair to accuse people of "whining" IMHO, Not everybody has time to read all the fine print....

Oh, the off-season is so much fun, so many deep discussions about sprintcar racing.

I chuckled when I figured out that a thread I thought had been started by Big Right Rear was actually started by Big Right Ear.

Funny you say this, out of curiosity went to Cox's website and found this:

Changes in Service or Prices – Subject to applicable law, we have the right to change our services and prices at any time. As a Cox customer, you will generally receive notice of changes in services or prices at least 30 days in advance or in compliance with applicable laws. The notice may be provided on or with your monthly bill, in a separate mailing, on an information channel, as a newspaper legal notice, as part of this annual notice or in some other written form. Additional information regarding such notices may also be found on the Cox website.

Looks like they clearly state how they're going to inform you of changes and probably make it readily available, unlike the company this original post is about. Color me shocked.

"generally";  no mailed notice ("may" not will); no separate mailing.... wasn't informed just like the original post (even though they got a seperate email that was ignored).  Stated how they "may" inform, but not how they "must" color me shocked.  OUTRAGED, I'm suing that ass because they probly put it on an information channel no one watches (kinda like deleting emails without reading them.)
