I tend to agree in that the "split" may just be attrition...even with tow money, you've got to get a bit creative with your financials for it to pencil if you're outside the top 5 or 6 in points, especially w/o a major sponsor. Couple that (and it ain't gonna get any cheaper next year) with the prospects of sharing revenue from merchandising and it may make more sense to race locally.
I would not be surprised to see more than 5 or 6 teams "stay home". Frankly, that prospect is exciting, and should be a boon to local, weekly series, and their promoters.
I'd love to have several of the CA teams stay "home" and commit to a local series. I've had several inquires regarding the revival of a 360/410 combined show, much like the format of the old Baylands Raceway.
With but a handful of commitments, and very little provocation, I'll come out of "retirement" and help promote that local series right here in central CA (were gonna call it West PA to lure Posse-fied drivers)
