Rehears a race, your not really that stupid?

I work in the IT field, and do you know what we do when we make a big change to the software?   We test it.   We test in on a test box before we put it into production.  After we put it in production, we do two seperate test to validate that it works.  (a SAT and a UAT)

Do we really believe that the first time that they tested the track lighting was Saturday night?  Or did they test it before hand to see if they had any dark spots?  Do you really believe that the first time they tested the video board was on Saturday night or did they test on that before?   Same with the track PA system?  How about the track safety lights?  Were they just hoping that the green light came on when they flipped the switch?

However, there was no way to test the line up software?  Really?     Take the printed race results from any track that has already completed this year and use this information as your test data.   Bring in all of your push truck drivers and tape numbers on thier windows.   As they work in the track use the laps that they are making to test your system.  Have a pre-season play date and simulate it with real race cars.

The reason that tracks have pre-season play dates are two fold.   One reason is to let the teams test thier new cars before the start of the season, but the other reason and almost as important is for the track to test thier systems before the season starts.   When should you determine how long it takes to pack the track?  During your play date or during your season opener?   When should you learn the line up software?  During your play date or during your system opener?

This weekend will be Indy 500.   Do we think that they have tested the safety lights before Sunday?  Do we think that they have tested the scoring system before Sunday?  Even the pre-race activities, do we think that they will just wing it and hope that everything works out, or do we think that they have done several rehersals and everything is staged down to the minute to make sure that they start the race on time?

Kooks and JonR, go to the movies they have multiable start times and they even tell you how long they are, movies do not run long. This debate is about the most ridiculous thing yet, name me one race track in the country that hasn't run late for whatever reasons, shit happens Jackson and BMS has the best of everything, there programs will run as smooth as any tracks in the country.

Running late due to things that are out of the tracks control (mainly weather and wrecks) is excusable and understandable.

Starting late and running late due to delays that are caused by ineptitude are inexcusable and will result in more people choosing to go elsewhere with their entertainment $'s.   Encouraging them to go elsewhere instead of fixing the problem is counter productive if you want more people to show up at the races.

Hey Kooks, did you stay for A at BMS, and if you did what did you think?

Probably can't "rehearse" a race but you could surely rehearse doing a set of lineups couldn't you?

From what I was told, the guys that were supposed to do the lineups at Huset's didn't have a clue and if someone from another track hadn't been there and helped them get it done the delay likely would have been a lot longer.

I'd say having that big of an event be your opening night was probably bad planning but Chuck wanted to make as big of splash as possible so it is what it was, a display of incompetence.   Hopefully they're fast learners.

Some comments make it sound like no one working at the track knew how a race night would go, did Chuck not hire a single person that had ever worked at Huset's in prior years?

Someone should tell the "world class" flag man that "dropping the green flag" doesn't mean to literally drop it on the track.   I guess the former flag man had prior commitments on Saturday nights.

1. When did he drop the green flag on the track?

2. Even if he did, iv seen that happen multiple times over the years so chill out.

3. If you're referring to the "phantom yellow" on heat 4 at badlands night 1, Shawn informed everyone hat before that race started someone went through the front little gate by the flag stand to get to the pits.  They didn't latch it good and during that heat race, that little gate started to open, which is obviously unsafe for the drivers.

Rehearse a race? Pretty simple actually. Put any 6 or 8 vehicles on the track with transponders and run a few laps. Doesn't matter what the hell speed they run to gather data. Have those vehicles jockey their positions over  6-8 cycles of the track and you have the data to learn the new software technology. Easy!

Back to the original post. Last night was an incredible night of racing at Jackson Motorplex. The program went off without a hitch and the racing was as exciting as I've ever seen at Jackson since the Wissota 360 days. The track was wide  and mulitple racing grooves and it held up till the final checkers flew. Every class put on a great show.  the 305s were 3 wide multiple times during the feature, as were the 360s. Not sure where Madsen started in the first feature, but I know he started 12 in the second, and Ballenger started deep in the field in the 305 class also and made it to the front in a stout field with 2 laps to go.  Crowd was nice.  If this is a sign of things to come, then Jackson is in good hands.

Hello!

No I did not.   I had my boys with me and we were likely home, in bed, sleeping by the time the A was pushed onto the track.     I was told that we missed a good race.

I'm not going back to Huset's for a Saturday show until they prove that going late isn't going to be the norm on Saturday night.    I'm somewhat skeptical in my thinking that since Sunday night is "family night" Saturday night is going to be for the party crowd and late nights will be common.  Time will tell.

I wasn't able to go to badlands opening night but did buy the pay per view.  I'm going to agree with you (kooks)about concern for Saturday night to be a party with a race going on in the background. This has been our concern all along.  $5 beer doesn't bother me much, because at best I'd have maybe 1 anyway.  I've heard from several race fans that there was definitely a "apocalyptic" crowd there on on opening night that were only there to party and could give 2 shits about the racing. If there was a silver lining (pardon the pun) maybe there will be less of a presence in the future.  With that said... Were going tonight Smile

Rehears a race, your not really that stupid?

no i think u are that stupid, you must have come out of the nest last year after chuckky kicked you out of the crib. you could hook the computers up and get track packers or anyone that would want to come out and put a transponder in their cars and help to get the system up and running correctly. and that goes for any track. hell he pays everyone else why not pay people to come out and try out a new system
