Stan, what difference does it make to you. You never even go to this race track, or own a car. So I just don't see why you would be concerned about where the money is coming from. That is Chuck's, and Bandlands race track to worry about that.

So now it is just a wait and see what happens. I hope it goes good, I will be there more in 2016

PS, my only ties to the former Husets were aunt Barb's late brother-in-law Steve Haman who lost his life there in a 360 wreck and her brother Jimmy just up the road in Flandreau who builds motors for the Stock Cars and Modifieds.  Two trips down there, one time to stay with aunt Barb's family in Flandreau and attend the memorial and the other time tagging along with you for Cheater's Day.  I had some fun times hanging around with you guys, especially when we used to listen to Rager tell stories about his USAC days.  I think I need a shot of that again to ramp up the enthusiasm and recharge the racing batteries.  wink

If it's a good deal he should be able to sell it, limaland is 500 bucks a year, 600 pitside. Pretty tough sell when you lose a lot of races & cut the season back to boot. I'd be hard pressed to pay 300 a year.

Hey Stan!  So based on my interpretation of Chuck's statements on Sunday, it sounds like (at least for the 1st year) the purses are fixed and he'll pay full advertised purses and if the cars don't show up, it's his problem to worry about how he is going to pay.  It also sounds like he is banking on all the reserved season tickets to sell out, every year.  I think those season ticket options are an awesome deal and would be all over that if it were offered at my local track.  Just some quick math on the limited number of season tickets available and that revenue gained (before the season even starts) is more than double the advertised purses for the year.  So any other GA, back gate, concessions, etc is just gravy every night.  Food for thought.  I'd really love to see how many pre-sale season tickets have been processed already.

OK.  I will admit that I am one of the nay sayers on the Badlands experiment.   I forget the exact numbers, but something like 50% of all new dirt track promoters do not last more than three years.   There is a reason that the number of tracks in the country are declining instead of increasing.   If promoting a race track was a vast  money maker, every one that started it would continue and new tracks would continue to pop up.   I think that people falsely think that since they see a lot of money change hands at the race track that the race track must be making money.

A couple of years ago there was a new promoter to a track around DFW.   He had all kinds of ideas for promoting a track.  Free pit passes,   free ticket entry if your passenger car had signage about the race track,  awards for attendance, and many more that I have forgotten.    It made a big splash on all of the message boards.   The promoter did not make it three years.

I have not taking the time to do all of the math, but I would challenge your math about the reserved seats paying for the advertised purse.   With a $50,000 weekly purse and an average ticket price of $20 per ticket, he is going to have to average 2,500 fans a week.    If you believe he is going to sell more of the lower end packages at $15.00 you will need to average  3.333 fans a week.    To average these numbers for a weekly show for an entire summer is incredibly optimistic.

Also,  I am not sure the $50,000 is the sprint purse or the entire purse.   I am thinking the purse may be only for the sprints.

I would be willing to make a bet of an adult beverage that this does not last three years.

The math is quite simple – let me save you the time by showing it to you now:

5 tiers of season passes available – 600 seats of each tier available for a total of 3000 season passes.

The tiers are priced at $300, $600, $800, $1,000, and $1,500 for a grand total of $2,520,000 of season ticket revenue available each year.

The weekly purses for normal Saturday/Sunday shows are $37,675 and $18,000 respectively.  There are 10 regular Saturday night shows as well as 12 regular Sunday night programs for a total of $592,750 ($376,750 + $216,000).  The $100,000 Silver Shootout and the $250,000 Rock and Roll Gold Cup at $350k for a total of $942,750 not including the WOO shows or a couple NSL shows.

As you can see the possible season ticket revenue is more than double the projected purse for the entire year.

Sorry, not drinking the Kool-Aide.   The numbers still dont add up.   You state that their are only 22 race nights, but from the BadLands web site, we have 30 racing nights.

General Admission Season Tickets for Racing Only. This pass includes approximately 30 Racing events including our weekly Saturday/Sunday Night Programs, NSL Shows, World of Outlaws and National Cheaters Day program.

This does NOT include special events such as concerts, Gold Cup, EnduroCross and Trucks/Tractors.

However, if you go up in the reserved seat program, you now have 42 events.

General Admission Season Tickets for ALL EVENTS including the Rock& Roll Gold Cup.

  • With approximately 42 events for 2016 the average price per event is $15.
  • There will be 600 of these season tickets available (Best Value)

So instead of 22 events we have 42 events? Or is it 30 racing events and 12 events that the average race fan does not want to see?  Concers/enduros/and tractor pulls?  However, to put the 12 additional events on, you are still going to have to pay some sort of purse.

However, all of the other packages have tickets to the 12 other events that most race fans don't want, and with the average prices for the next three packages being $20, $25 and $35.  I do not see a lot of fans signing up to buy these tickets.   Do we really expect someone to pay over $400 in ticket fees for enduros and tracker pulls?

Finally, just because you offer 3000 Season tickets, does not mean that you will sell 3000 season tickets.  Also, 1200 of these seats are just GA seating.   Are people going to be lining up to purchase GA seating?  Finally, where is a seating chart for all of these tickets?   I looked on line and could not find all of these great seats to choose from.   Once again, just because they are for sale does not mean that they will be bought.

Awe come on now, you're just being obtuse.  According to the handout at the press conference, there are 11 Saturday night events(410's) 13 Sunday events (360), 1 night Silver cup, 1 night Cheater's Day, 3 nights Gold Cup, 2 nifhts WoO, 2 nights NSL,1 night tractor pull, 2 nights monster trucks, 1 night motorcycles, and 4 concerts= 41 events by my count.

Whether you are for it or against it, whether you want to believe it or disbelieve it, the figures given in the handout show that IF all the season passes were sold, the income would be about double what the listed purses are for the SPRINT CAR races.  That part is kind of cut and dry, as that is what is written.  How it all unfolds is anybody's guess.

Sure, they may not sell even a single season pass, but that doesn't negate the numbers listed above.

ps.  At the press conference, it was made to sound that a season pass would give you the same designated seat at every race.  Folks like me buying a single general admission ticket at a time may end up standing in front of the beer stand, or having my pick of empty seats in the stands.  As yet, there is no clear-cut consensus on which it will be.

By reading the web site, you only get to keep the same seat if you buy a reserved package.  The first two packages are just discounted packages for GA seating.   The top three packages get the same seat,  but could not find a seating chart anywhere on the website.

If it's so easy why isn't every track in the upper Midwest doing this?

I see what you're saying.  Reading over the handout I see it's the same there as well.  At the press conferemce I got the impression that a lot of the details on things were not quite worked out yet.  For example, it was suggested that (some? all? of the) bleacher seats were going to be replaced with the folding seat type chairs found at ballaprks.

Things said at the press conference made it sound like not much had been worked on yet with sponsors for next season.  But, if you own Badlands Pawn and Dollar Loan Center, maybe you have that somewhat covered inhouse?

For what it's worth, over the last couple of years I've tried to determine just how many seat there are in the stands at Husets.  Including suites and the VIP building, I come up with a realistic *guess* of about 4,000 to 4,500 butt parking spots. Given that, I'd estimate the typical crowd over the last few years at between 2,000 and 3,000.  That is plus the pits.

In the long run, will this zeppelin fly?  I don't know.
