With HIPPA laws, the ambulance crew, announcers, etc. can't give any specific info unless the Swindell's approve.

Tell me more about these "HIPPA laws." LOL. The acronym you are looking for is "HIPAA." That stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.

@1sam91: Our son Kevin has emerged from surgery & we can confirm he has suffered a significant injury. He has another surgery scheduled for MON AM.

The things I've been hearing locally are not good... Here's hoping to a full and speedy recovery.

It's never good when they get air and land like that on their wheels. Some years back a guy by the name of John Nelson was driving the family car on a tight little quarter mile and landed like that. When they hit the track that way the driver takes all that force sitting down. In John's case he injured his back but the outcome is good and he hasn't driven since. Now they put Brooke Tatnell in the Nelson #14 for select 360 races.
As someone who had a couple discs compromised and ended up with a neck fusion as a result I feel a lot of concern whenever anyone suffers a neck or back injury. Someone please post an address we can contribute to as soon as it becomes available and I'm in. Hopefully there won't be anymore serious incidents at the Nationals this year and great racing will be enjoyed by all.

I saw the Steve King Foundation was taking donations at the track. Its been awhile since I've used their web site donations, but I believe there is a way to leave a note to whom you'd like your donation to go towards if I remember correctly.
My prayers go out to Kevin and his family. We dont always agree with one another about racing situations but we are all family when something like this happens. #Bulldog Strong

Seems like a lot of people are starting to run shock resistant foam in the bottom of their seats now in case they land hard...

In Central PA Doug Esh, Dewease and Rahmer all hurt their backs at one time or another. John Westbrook permanently. It can happen to anyone.

There are no words for Kevin Swindell , he is great driver , great son , great to fans and one of the most underated drivers around . Why some owner has not given this talent a successful ride in NASCAR is beyond me ? This is where this young man wants the opportunity to race. I can only hope and pray for a successful full recovery for this great young man who has given fans much excitement in his career . I send my best to the Swindell family for a speedy return to health for Kevin .

It landed backward and momentum slammed the rear wheels to the ground.

I am sure more details will emerge on this incident. But, I don't believe shock resistant foam on the bottom of the seat would have given any different outcome in this instance. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Swindell family. Great young man with loads of talent. I hope for nothing but the absolute best for him. He is a champion in life, so I know that no matter what the outcome, he will will emerge with flying colors!

I know Kevin runs a butler built seat, and they have their 'E-Z Sert' seat insert that you pour in with the driver sitting in the seat to mold around your butt and lower back.. its a hard foam kind of deal that's supposed to disperse the energy of a hit across the entire region instead of in one spot, increasing your chances of this not happening, I without a doubt believe that he had this in his seat, I run mine in my butler built.. However we all know the risks of racing and understand that it is a dangerous sport, a seat insert isn't a guarantee of saving your back, just as a HANS isn't a guarantee of saving your neck.. Anywho, ive never been a fan of Kevin's but I wish him the best on his road to recovery and hopefully we will get to see him in a car again!
