I will give you that it has not been going on his whole career but the last few yrs he has been running into quite a few people and I have followed him since talking to him for a few hrs after he won the pacific coast nationals at ascot park in1981 oh and 56yrs old how about yourself and your so called knowledge ????

I agree with you 100%... been forming my opinion since the Bobby Davis Electric car and you are absolutely correct that his most recent years have been the dirtiest… am I qualified to comment?

Oh Sammy.... I find it hillarious that the so called long time Sammy Super Fans idolize a man who acts like a child and can't control his emotions most of the time. He has hit everyone but the push trucks.. Oh wait he did that too. He is a jack ass most every where he goes. The dude causes troubles ever where he goes. Ever seen a Chili Bowl where he is not been a dick? I can't talk for others but I can think of a whole lot of other racers that I can call a Hero other than this whiny ass prick. A REAL man knows how to control his emotions and admit when they screw up. Sammy has none of these endearing qualites. I surley wouldn't want a young kid idolizing a man who can't control his temper and acts like an ass most the time. Yea some kind of hero LMAO. If you never watched him when Kevin was racing USAC with KK he was dick all the time. When you aren't allowed in the pits anymore because of your immature action it speaks volumes of this guys character.

Somebody mentioned Sammy's 30 years and over 400 races. That number is over 40 years and I would expect closer to 3,000 races. I don't want to see Sammy retire. He's an awesome driver, I enjoy watching him race and he puts people in the stands. However, we don't need strapped for cash owner's having to replace parts or drivers getting hurt because of B.S. actions, if that what it was.
I listened to the race, so didn't see him take Thorsen out. Sammy would normally be more worried about getting his car to the front to qualify for the dash, but if he did take out Tanner in a manner that is suggested, officials should have parked him for the heat race. At least sent him to the rear for the restart. There are rules to handle rough driving and all tracks should enforce them. I don't want nanny's like the NFL or F1 and start reviewing everything. We don't need every slide job or hard racing crash looked at, but obviously dumping a guy instead of racing him should be at least a finger pointing. Back in the day, I had a finger pointed at me more than once for questionable moves.
Sammy is all about winning races and therefore enjoying a very nice standard of living. I doubt he goes looking for guys to take out as often as some peope seem to imply. He wouldn't be one of the most succesful drivers and still competitive at 60 if he drove to take people out all the time. Yes, when the tables are turned he can talk down about another driver better than most.

Regardless of what anybody thinks of Sammy Swindell , he's knows his stuff about setting up cars, is a class act, always made time to talk with me and other fans if approached at a good time , and he has provided us with some great racing during his career .

I would also hope we all understand that this forum is for our own entertainmenet, that Sammy has most likely never read a single post of this forum at any point in his life. He is in Charlotte tonight eating a nice dinner out and living the life, the rest of us are wishing we had 1% of Sammy's talent/knowledge/experience. He will be missed by more than not when he does retire. Who is in line to be the whipping post when he does retire or move on? Larson is gone, Stewart is gone, Levi has gone, Kevin is out temporarily, etc. I recall a lot of flack about them. Is racing more pleasant now that they aren't competing this weekend in sprints? Nascar is better with punk Kez and the whiny Bush boys, open wheel is better with Sammy, Walker, Larson, Abreau, Kunz with those cheating Toyotas, Kahne, etc. Too bad Karl is retired. We won't be better with Sammy retired.

Sounds like Aaron Reutzel did his share of banging in New Mexico last night. Or was Sammy in New Mexico last night, too? I mean, if Sammy is at the track anywhere, anytime something happens then he really must be Superman. If people keep harping on Sammy's short retirement then you can't be a Bret Favre fan. When top-class teams want you to drive for them coming out of retirement has to be pretty easy. Michael Schumacher and Michael Jordan came back and nobody gave them any grief. Really gets old reading about it but, then again, this board just has to be full of low information voters.

Ahhh, another clueless hater that doesn't know the real story behind the "slammin Sammy" nickname or when it came about. Lol, too funny.

How the name originated and why the name stuck are two different stories. I know that the Sammy lovers have thier cute story about his nick name, but everyone else knows why they call him "Slammin Sammy"

I'd bet 10 bucks the reason Sammy has been successful over 40 years is because he is busy studying about the next race, how to make a race car better instead of reading racing forums full of experts. Can anyone educate me on the word Accident. Pretty sure they happen in racing quite often. Just a thought. Fast track narrow groove, and sprint car racing equals an accident. I guarantee he wasn't planning on looking for Thorson just to wreck him. My final thought. How many people can say they have been on their job and still successful after 4o years. Survey says???

Probably, but unlike Logano I'm sure Thorson didn't deserve it.... Apparently you're one of those clowns that doesn't know the difference between the two situations.

Sammy can be smartest man alive (not) He has no respect for others. Take a good look at the video on Cushion it will explain it all. There was No way that was a slider gone bad not a racing mistake either. Just plain old punt what a football team does when all else fails. Then to take no responsibilty just shows his character. The rest of the night was KARMA

Yes he is successful so much so he just couldn't miss Thorson going around the corner!!! He has learned how to wreck ppl with out wrecking him self!!! Takes 40 years to do that! How do you think he has won so much! Take out the competion!!
Been watching him for 40 years he will never change!!!

Age is 64. My dad took me to my first sprint car race when I was 5 or 6 yrs old. I have an extensive collection of sprint car mags, books etc.....It's a passion for me. Have slowed down some in recent years but used to go to 25-30 races every year all around the midwest. Have also made some longer journeys to tracks for WoO events. Don't know it all, but I have paid attention to the history of and the current events involving sprint car action. Am fortunate enough to be able to call one of the best ever a friend. I'm not a name dropper, but we have talked many times about the sport, the drivers and owners.
