Typical of dirt in ur beer to comment on this childish reply. Just can't wait to drag someone else's name through the mud. Rediculous.

Thinking someone else's comment is funny is considered dragging someone's name through the mud now? That's a little thin don't talk think?

Do u even know the Eckert /Knoxville story? I for one am a huge Eckert fan. I read everything of his I possibly can but, do not complete agree with his assesment of his legal run ins with Knoxville. Am I dragging his name through the mud?

I did not see one single cop the last two years at knoxville outside of the track-now that I think of it.

That being said-they can't think of something better to worry about than seat belts?  The absolute worst law ever passed in the history of mankind?  I am from Illinois.  Violent crimes are through the roof, our governor's punch our license plates in prison, and it seems the only thing we know how to enforce or care about is seat belt tickets.  I do buckle up every time I get in the car-so I don't get a ticket.  But you talk about one of the worst laws ever passed just for the simple fact of taking your right away to take care of your damned self. If you want to pass one that says everyone in a car under 18 needs a seatbelt, fine.  I always thought it should be up to me--a grown ass man--whether or not I want to wear a seatbelt or a helmet on a cycle for that matter.

That discussion is for another day--I do obey the law because it is the law.

and i'm sure that you have  obeyed "all" speed limits for your entire life too...just sayin'

Ok, excuse me if that was harsh. For me, the biggest problem on this forum is when people inject something unrelated in to a thread. This was about the Knoxville police, not Kevin Eckert. I don't 100% agree with his assesment either but there's no need to bring it up, or perpetuate it. Yes, I know the story and he's a friend of mine.

considering there was a grand total of 12 arrests over the 4 days and of those 8 were locals, I'd say the cops were pretty lenient.

As far as the seatbelt tickets go, it's the law.  Only people I saw ticketed myself were those that weren't wearing them (I was parking cars at HyVee with my son 360 and 410 Nationals, everyone that pulled in with a cop behind them wasn't wearing one).

Saw a moped pulled over with 2 passengers onboard.  No ticket, just explained the law in Iowa that no passengers are allowed on mopeds.

Saw a copy tell a guy with a beer in his hand walking down the sidewalk that "if you'd had that in a coozie I wouldn't have seen it, but since I did you'll have to pour it out".  Seems like the cop was basically telling hte guy to not be stupid and put a coozie on his beer the next time.

But, alas, I'm sure there will be a group of haters that think the cops are out to get everyone.  If anything, they are MORE LENIENT during Nationals than any other time of year.

Apologies accepte. I'd have felt the same way if he were a friend of mine. The guy has an incredible talent and sprint car fans are lucky  to have him. It seems that u and I are on the same page thougH. It was a travesty to not let him do his public service at the HOF.

Yes and tax payers like me have to pay for your quadraplegic  and so forth care for the rest of your life.  I have in about 25 years at nationals never been stopped by Knoxville police.

First of all-I'm not a dumb ass.  I wear mine.  My point was, why always focus ALL of the energy on seat belts?  I was told there is no warning in Illinois for a seat belt-zero tolerance.   You can get a warning for going 65 mph in a 55 mph zone.  You can get a warning for failure to use a turn signal.  You can get a warning for almost any traffic violation under the sun that puts other innocent people in danger.  BUT--you cannot get a written warning for a seat belt--something that involves only the driver's and passenger's health and no one elses.  (someone in Illinois correct me if I am wrong on this--zero tolerance?)   I don't know what Iowa's policy is.

If we are going into the tax payer argument, I can come up with about 200 other scenarios where laws need to be passed before we worry about seat belts.

I also have never had a run in with the Knoxville police.  But I do abide by their laws too.

"Why focus ALL of the energy on seat belts?"     Because focsing energy on persons ejected from a vehicle is a terrible thing to have to do.

Somebody has to deal with the ejected body and all that comes with that...

Tie up emergency resources because of a preventable injury?  "The medical helicopter is unavailable for your cardiac patient because they are responding to a person ejected from a car"     It happens.

Someone has to live with the mental strain of dealing with another preventable traumtic injury.

After the traffic accident that occurred during the 2014 Nationals, I'm surprised the crackdown wasn't much stronger this year.

I haven't sped since...............how long have I been home from work?  Smile

Let me clarify. I didn't break any laws in KNOXVILLE in the last 10 years.  Therefore, I would not expect to have problems with the law there.

I speed.  Tailgate.  Swerve.  But I've been good in Knoxville.  If I get in trouble, my wife won't let me go again.  That's why I try to get in trouble on my way to work all of the time.    Smile

Bunch of dumbasses you are. Respect the Blue follow the laws and you won't have one problem. When you have sloppy drunks crossing streets , driving too damn fast past the track etc plus then the meth heads and drug use just like every other place in America . I welcome the police . They are just trying to protect myself and other people from those that for some reason just can't respect the laws or authority. Thank you Knoxville Police , Iowa State Patrol, and Marion County Police for all you do every year.

Amen !!!!

So what do you do when you are obeying the law and still get a ticket? One of those cop's word versus your word.  No proof either way. Seems like Knoxville just wanted a few more dollars from out-of-towners.

Yup, a few seat belt tickets during  the Nationals makes  their budget for the whole year! Department would have to make major cut backs otherwise. I'm sure there are a  lot of crooked  cops in Knoxville  who give out bunches of tickets to innocent people.  Fool! You broke a law and got caught, be a man and own it!

I camp with fans from 5 states other than Iowa and 1 from Canada and they have never had a problem with the cops there in over 20 years!
