My father is on the saefty crew at the track and was one of the first to arrive on the scene. Said it wasn't pretty by any means. He also mentioned, that there was no neck brace of any kind being used and that his seat belts were about 5 years out of date. I;m sure this is just because of his budget and lack of yearly racing. I hope that his family and friends are coping in the best ways possible and it's always sad to lose a driver at the track

Containment seats and head restraints haven't been around that long but it has never been good when a car goes straight. Belts probably had few races on them if they were tight. Was an accident.
Sadness is building up past couple of years. Safety is higher than ever. Unhooking them would help a little bit. 900 horse to the ground is a newer phenomenon. If they don't, then wider taller frames or softer walls (tires, etc) are the few choices. Some of the Outlaws already run wider frames. Don't see too many tracks putting tires around guardrails anymore.
