Thanks for the clarifications on the seat construction--I was a little baffled by that.

I still think they made a mistake on the decision to go that late on a Sunday night.  If they are going to go Sunday night, go at 5:00 pm.  (and yes-I know it still would have been delayed due to rain this year)   I know the dollars that are involved.  But NBC can just walk away a couple years down the road.  Nascar needs to start thinking about their future and their future fans.   Get the races in front of your future for them to view at all times.  I thought the actual 4th of July was an excellent time to get fans in front of the TV.  Always was in the past if I remember correctly.

As far as the plate racing, I don't ever remember it being this uneventful.  (talking about the last 6-8 years) I remember plate races in the past being at least entertaining to watch.  Seems like all of these changes to cheapen the cars for the owners have cost us good racing.  Espectially when it comes to the aero-push on the cookie cutter tracks but in the plate racing too.

On a side note Cubfan--got free tickets to Friday's game at Wrigley for me and my family.  ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Figures we pick the one game of three that the lowly Marlins beat them and they score 1 run.

I do not think very many kids today would sit and watch 450 miles of racing just to see (possibly) an exciting finish. Cars going around & around for 3+ hours will not hold a kids attention. 500 lap/mile races are not what nascar needs to be doing if they want young fans to watch. Regardless of what time & day it is on TV.

I am a big sprint car fan and have been for many years and the only reason I really watch NASCAR is to support Kyle Larson. I went to his first sprint car race and have continued to cheer him on in whatever car he races. I can't help but wonder why the heck NASCAR races have soo many laps, they get all the great sponsers, shown on prime time TV, and yet the race is just overall not exciting to watch! Kyle used to dominate in sprint cars and I could tell he just loved racing them! Now sure he is making lots of money racing with NASCAR, but he is having the worst luck and even when he is doing well something bad seems to happen to his car or he gets taken out in a crash. I would think he is really frustrated and I bet he really misses racing sprint cars and and winning on a consist basis. I love supporting sprint cars because the drivers race because they truly love the sport whereas NASCAR they race for the money and fame!  I did stay up and watch the race last night becase I was expecting to see my local news on at a 11pm and was shocked to see that it was a live race that late at night! My heart stopped when I saw Austin Dillon's crash and I really thought he was really hurt  frown I really like Dale Earnhart Jr. as a driver and a person and his sympathy for another driver was great to see.

Looking forward to the new Golden State King of the
West series schedule!

Winged sprintcars = the fastest and most exciting
racecars on dirt!

I ran a promotion on the infield at Daytona this weekend.  Had a bunch of families there enjoying everything but the racing...  We provided food, giveaways, had some models, and even Richard Petty showed up and signed some autographs.  Everything leading up to the race was really enjoyable and relaxing.  Everyone got pretty excited when it came race time.  The flyover was probably the greatest flyover of all time with the afterburners.  I still have goosebumps.

As soon as the race started, everyone went to the top of the display to watch.  Started with about 100 people.  By lap twenty, half were gone.  By lap 30, I had about 20 people there.  By the halfway point of the nationwide race, I was tearing everything down trying to get to the hotel before the race was over.

I kinda compare plate racing to drag racing... the first pass is cool.  second pass is neat, third pass...ok time to do something else.  Same thing with plates, the first and last lap look the exact same.

As for kids, thats the main reason most left.  Kids looked like they were bored out of their mind or falling asleep on their parents forcing them to leave.

Just my experience... On to Kentucky to help out before I head home to go race the USCS Southern Speedweek!

FYI... There were 55,000 available seats at Daytona this year.  They only sold 24,000 as of Sunday morning.

They are moving the backstretch grandstands to the front stretch.  The seats are higher than ever now because of fans complaining about not being able to see the backstretch.

Also, DIS is planning on having huge concerts there more often and possibly football games if the Bristol experiment works out.  They are putting a ton of money into the facility and doing their best to satifsy the fans.

But it was their lowest turnout in at least a decade.

I agree with everything said also but I'll add another point:  I quit watching and going to Nascar races when the announcers in the pits and the announcers in the booth started immediately calling Damica a future nascar stars in her first few races and then they started to call her a star permanently.  After a half-year of this in Cup racing I said the hell with this.  calling someone like her a star.  Hell, she wasn't even a star in Indy car racing.  Yes she won a race in Japan but she won it by throwing the dice and not pitting when everyone else pitted for fuel and she luckily and amazingly caught 2 or 3 caution flags which kept her a lap ahead of everyone except for a couple other crappy cars who had not pitted for fuel and then she was able to crawl around the track, not using much fuel and won the damned thing.  You never heard that story after the race.  To think of all the drivers with real talent and given the practice time and the laps she got, they'd be ;running in the top 5 or 6 regularly with the equipment they give her.

PS   2 mile tracks suck, plate racing sucks, the length of races suck.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Let me add another one:

5.  Ryan Blaney qualifies fast enough to make the field in the top 15 or so (can't recall exactly where his speed would have landed him) and doesn't make the race due to their stupid qualifying rules.  They have butchered qualifying to the point where any part time or new team has a helluva time just making the race even if they outrun 2/3 of the field.

Ryan missed the race today again Stan due to qualifying getting rained out after being 16th fastest in practice. I don't watch NASCAR "racing" anymore, I only follow the Blaney family after being a big Dave fan for as long as I can remember. See you out at CLS providing the "R" stays away.

I'll be there Saturday and Sunday.  Going to POVS 65 tonight to watch the kid's band open for Alien Ant Farm.  My wife and I will probably be one of the few in the crowd that are old enough to have watched the Beatles live on Ed Sullivan.  Don't matter to me, I still play rock loud and distorted on my electrics.  If it's too loud as they say then you're too old.  My time on the flight deck and standing in the infield of dirt tracks for years have made it the only kind of music I can hear anymore.  wink
